My brother was at San Simeon by the Sound for a month and a half. When he first went in, he was almost legally blind, and he was a little off-balanced on his memory and stuff. When they worked with him, with the therapy for walking and the therapy that helped with the brain and paying attention, within four weeks, he has come all the way around. It was amazing. It helped him out a lot. He had a fantastic time there. The food was good. He liked it. When he first went in there, he could barely tell what was on the plate or where the plate was. In the end, he was eating fine. They helped him a lot and that's where we got the permission that if he has someone that can help him just do a few things, we'd be allowed to take him out. They were very good to him. He had a shared room with another person. You can go and play bingo or other games. There's TV all the time and they had special shows on, but he didn't do a lot of them. They had a lot to offer. I liked the staff. They were very good. It was very easy to get around. They had a nice patio outside. We could take him outside every day. Value for money was good.

my sister and I feel fortunate to have our mother attend San Simeon Adult Day Care. Our mother suffers from a number of physical issues as well as dementia. Mother looks forward to "the senior center" EVERY DAY. She herself says she doesn't know what she would do without her "Senior Center" and has enjoyed every aspect of the program from the food, socialization, fun activities even the bus ride which is beautiful as they see the bay and the sound. But most of all its the staff. These are dedicated, kind, top notch professionals. Our mother needs help with toileting etc. and it's dealt with dignity and respect. Our mother is so very happy. That's what matters.

My father has been in San Simeon by the Sound Inc. because it is near where he lives, which is a rehab place and that is where he is going back to. I only visited him there once. But he did like the staff, he thought they were very friendly and helpful, and they tried to really make him feel comfortable. He said that one day they brought in dogs to make them feel happy and he woke up in there and there were two little dogs on the bed with him. So, he liked that. It was very close to his house, and in a nice area. As far as I know the sanitation of the place was fine. I liked that it was close to my mother, so she could go and visit him. Other than that, they had a nice little porch out in the front, so you could go and sit with him, and they had social things in the dining room for him. I could not find any fault with them.

My grandmother was a resident of San Simeon from the late 1990s to about 2005 when she passed away due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. She had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for years, and my family was no longer able to care or her at home. She had lived in Queens, NY for all her life but spent the summers on eastern Long Island. We choose San Simeon by the Sound partially because of its location. It is right along Long Island Sound and near downtown Greenport which are both two nice places to take your loved one out to visit if they are well enough to do so. They staff kept my grandmother comfortable and relatively healthy for the last years of her life. They also were great at keeping my family informed of any issues my grandmother was having. While I typically find the environment of nursing homes depressing, I know that they are necessary at times and was happy with San Simeon by the Sound and would recommend it for your loved one.
