Sunrise of East Setauket is a great place. Mom is in memory care. It's very clean and homey, and they got very caring people. She likes it there. She's got her own room with her own bathroom. Of course, you got to pay a little bit more because it's private, but it's what she wanted and it is reasonably priced. The care managers are excellent. If there was anything that you were not happy with, they rectified it. The food is cooked and they give them two options for each meal. So, they get to pick what they want. They have occasional activities and certain holidays. Some of the aides will sing with them, too. They have a wraparound porch with Adirondack chairs and rocking chairs for the residents to sit on in nicer weather.

I toured Sunrise of East Setauket, and they were all lovely to deal with when I was there visiting and on the phone, but I don't know if I feel right saying this is the best place for someone because she was not there. It looked very homey, though, and didn't look like a hospital or any kind of nursing home. It looked very comfortable. There was a little reception desk, and there were lots of chairs and couches. There were two women who I was working with, they were very clear on everything. They gave me brochures and they explained it all well. I got to tour the rooms and the grounds outside. They were great. I was there quite early on a Sunday morning. They explained to me that there are activities there all the time, but most of the people staying there were just finishing up breakfast, so there was not a whole lot going on at that time. They were telling me that there are art classes all the time and people can go outside and sit and enjoy, or go down to their little café and eat. I'm not comfortable saying five stars because I don't have enough to base that on, but from the little time I spent there, I was going to put my mom there, so I would say it was a four. It looked nicely taken care of.

"Sunrise should not have a license to call itself a “Memory Care Facility”. Two days after we moved my mom in, we received a call that she tried to leave the secure area and we would have to arrange for separate care in the form of an aid that would cost over $5,000 a month (in addition to the almost $10,000 they charged to provide a “safe and secure place”). This is a very common symptom of a memory care resident and not once during the interview process did they say this would be needed. In fact, when I explained my mom would likely do this behavior, I was told all about their secure facility and alarms on the doors, etc. They were happy to take her $5,700 one time (non refundable) move in fee, but are unable to staff the facility properly to provide the basic care a memory facility is expected to provide. Rather than hire one hourly wage employee to monitor the door, they require multiple residents to pay thousands of dollars a month to ensure they don’t leave? They sent me an eviction notice after deciding they were too incapable (or lazy) to actually do the job they promised to do when took all her money. Stay far away from Sunrise East Setauket if you want quality care for your loved one.

I did not like Sunrise of East Setauket at all. I did not like the staff or the facilities. Overall, I would rate them a two. It was shabby looking and looked old, and the staff that I met was not friendly. I would never walk through their doors again. It was probably not well managed, and it was not a good place.

Sunrise of East Setauket was pleasant when you enter, and very nice and gracious. The dining area and the rooms were all pleasant. The staff was honest and agreed that my friend wasn't fit for the place given his vibrancy because the clientele was older.

I would have preferred my parents went to Sunrise of East Setauket over the place that they went. The care level was better for them. The apartments weren't quite as nicely laid out, but everything else seemed like it would really fit their needs. There just wasn't a lot of storage. They had two main course choices for dinners and they had a lot of regular food every day. They had many activities plus they had a group that travels around together that has Alzheimer's.

Sunrise of East Setauket was a lovely community and very conveniently located for where we are living. The place itself was very impressive as far as its cleanliness. The residents seemed very content and very happy. The staff members all seemed very pleasant and professional. The rooms were a very nice size. I certainly would recommend this community. Of the three places we had seen, Sunrise of East Setauket was probably the best.

Sunrise, I felt, was very overpriced. Security-wise, I wasn't impressed. The rooms were nice though. They had bus trips, but I felt it was very overpriced, and the people seemed very aloof. I wasn't happy with it at all.

My Mom is a fairly new resident of this facility. Each time I open the door to visit, I get this "homey" feel. Part of it, of course, is the decor, but the other half is the staff. Caring, attentive, kind. So far, so good!

I am not impressed with this facility for my Dad. Staff are overworked. Management is not able to address issues and is not motivated to make this place better. Care is good to marginal.

beautiful building ...beautiful flowers...horrible care! Employee turnover, weekend and night care terrible ...this is a business with a profit motive far exceeding the care motive...this makes it a dangerous place for your loved ones.

I was looking for a place to place my Mom. I visted quite afew places, but as soon as I walked in and waited to be shown around I was able to observe the kindness of the care staff. It's a beautifuk place and a great group of people that work there. I'm sure working there is not easy, but I saw first hand the compassion for each and every one of the seniors and knew this was the place for mom. She has now been there for 3 months and not a day goes by that I regret that decision

My mother was at Sunrise from February to August of last year. We were not happy with the service at all. The level of attention and care was subpar and she did not improve and got worse. Physically, it was an attractive facility and their basic American menu was a little bit gourmet style. They had activities, but the staff wasn't that successful in getting my mother involved.

Sunrise is beautiful, nice, the set-up was wonderful. The staff seems very nice. I think they should have walk grounds for people who walk and the physical therapy was also lacking. They need to update the rooms. The accommodation is not very homey.

Interior was drab, but you could tell they tried to spruce up the place with various amenities and accessories such as flowers and drink machines. Staff was nice but cordial, my dealings with them were pleasant but felt rushed. They seemed to be attentive in regards to my aunt, and she did not have any complaints about them.

It can be the hardest decision trying to figure out whether or not to put your loved one in a nursing home or assisted living center. As such, one must look to that facility to ease the transition. Sunrise Assisted Living did just that. I visited the facility about a year ago in search of an assisted living center for my 78-year-old grandmother. For me, the most important thing was for the facility to not have a hospital-like atmosphere. I wanted her to feel that although she can't live at home alone anymore, she still can be part of a vibrant community. The wide variety of daily activities that they had, including fitness classes and trips to neighboring shopping centers, made me certain that they would be able to provide the type of assistance that my aging grandmother needed. Although we decided to go with a different assisted living facility closer to my house, I would recommend Sunrise Assisted Living to any family.
