I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad was at Santa Fe Care Center. We will never go back because it's a horrible facility. The grounds were nice. They seemed to have a really good layout inside. There were different wings for the patients, and then they had a general area. My dad was actually in a room by himself, so it was pretty roomy. Not much to it though, just a bed, a TV, and a chair. However, it was a horrible facility. The service was horrible. It would take up to an hour if Dad pushed the call button to get assistance, and when they did show up it was like he was inconveniencing them. My dad never went to the dining area, they brought him his food, but it was poor. I would suggest that they increase their staff and provide more training for the staff. The biggest thing is that they were understaffed.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband's a resident of Santa Fe Care Center. It is not really considered a senior living situation. It's mainly for rehabilitation to get him stronger so that he can function more at home. It's very crowded and I believe they're short staffed, at least from what I saw when I did visit him. He has physical therapy. To my knowledge, he's still in bed. He had a gout attack, and all they did for him was bring him pain pills and lift his feet above the bed board. Basically, they just propped his feet on the board at the foot of the bed. He has medication that he wants me to bring him. They're not giving him any medication for the gout. He's been texting me since this morning, and he's talking about elder abuse and wants me to call 911 and report them and some stuff like that. His bed is supposed to be like a hospital bed, but I'm not sure if it is functioning so that he can raise his head or raise his feet, that kind of thing. The place is clean, but it's very noisy. People have their TVs real loud, and to me, it's unnerving, but he's deaf, so he probably can't hear all the noise. The last time he called for a nurse, they gave him a note that he needed to sleep and stop calling for a nurse so much. So, I'm not really happy with how he's being treated in this facility. All they're giving him for pain is Tylenol and melatonin. I give them a rating of two, I don't want to give them a one because I know they're trying.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad had a stroke about six weeks ago. After he got out of rehab we took him to this facility. He called me every day for five days to tell me that he fell and was left on the floor for a significant period of time each time. Finally when he was left alone one time he fell and broke his hip. He had to have surgery and went back to the hospital. We have moved him to another facility. He told me that the people that worked there smelled like marijuana and alcohol. The Spanish-speaking staff members spoke in Spanish in pejorative terms about the patients thinking that my dad didn’t understand them but he is bilingual. The staff members that I had interaction with were friendly and he said the food was ok.

I am/was a resident of this facility

The nursing staff did not know how to place my arm sling after a shower. In the middle of the night they sanded the floor outside my room. It was stinky, noisy, and toxic. They laughed when my spouse complained. My room was very cold at night.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in a skilled nursing facility, Santa Fe Care Center. My first experience was not that great, but she is in for a second time. My second experience is much better now. Things are better. The staff are overworked and understaffed, especially on weekends. My mother has difficulty with one staff member, but the other five or six have been very nice. There were some things that they overlooked in her first admittance. Right now, my mother is in quarantine in a solo room. She likes her room, but it's difficult. They provide everything from nursing to physical therapy to regular care. It has a strange entrance into the facility, but it's very close to the hospital, which is nice. It's accessible. I've seen my mother's food and it's not that great. They have bingo and arts and crafts, but my mother hasn't been able to participate in that, but then again, she's probably too weak to participate. Medicare is taking care of the cost for the first 20 days, after that, it's going to cost us $170 per day. It's a difficult place and it's a difficult type of business to be in as well. One good thing I like about this place is that they allow us to Facetime and they have the window visits.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I've stayed at Santa Fe. It was very clean and was a great rehab; the best I've ever seen. I had problems with them realizing that I really had a problem with my leg, and because of that, I had my leg amputated. The nurse that was in charge was not very efficient in realizing that they gave me too many drugs, and they should have spaced it out. The medical errors were the bad part. However, the care was fabulous. They made sure the patients were dry, changed the urine bags, and checked on them every two hours.
