I visited a friend in El Castillo. It's beautiful. They have a couple of swimming pools, they have a lot of activities, they have a happy hour every day, and they have a shuttle service that would take you places. She had invited me to join her in the dining room, this was pre-COVID, but the food was very good, and they had a buffet with a selection of dishes and desserts. It's very nice. The only staff I had any encounter with was the dining staff, and they were very friendly.

I had/have several relatives in this facility. I found the executives running the place, mercenary and only interested in their profits which are substantial. The staff with direct access to the residents are caring but desperately overworked. Access to amenities like the main dining room is possible only for residents with their visiting family that can literally walk to their table. No walkers, no wheelchairs, no outside care assistants. how would that seem if you have one of a couple that are able to walk and another that cannot ? That said, the food and the choice on the menu are all very good. 2021: El Castillo is planning a huge addition of independent living units about a 10 minute walk from their central facility. You need to be a wealthy member of society to afford to live here. If you are poor, middle class or only have Medicare, this place will not be for you. The assisted living and clients needing 24;7 medical care are a sad example of end of life care that has little to no activities and an overworked staff for people that were once thinking, vibrant people. They seem to go quickly once they enter either one of these sections. I never visited the Memory Center as it is a locked facility. El Castillo could be so much better if it were more a part of the special environment and community that is Santa Fe. This would mean welcoming others less fortunate, other cultures and experience.

I visited El Castillo and liked it a good deal, but there weren't any vacancies. The rooms were a bit dated but still very comfortable. There were lots of amenities, and it was very close to downtown. The person who showed me around was very courteous but didn’t show me around simply because there were no vacancies, so there was very little point. I didn’t see the facility well enough. The price was reasonable; however, there were no vacancies so there was no point pursuing it.

We visited El Castillo. The nursing part seemed limited. It was an option, but it required a fairly high upfront fee. It was comprehensive, and it seemed to be a limited nursing facility.

To me El Castillo LifeCare Community felt like home. It’s a smaller community, and everybody was very friendly. The apartment that I have has one bedroom, and it's very nice. It's very carefully setup with a living room, a bedroom, and a small dining area as well as a full kitchen. They have one meal a day. It was very good. It was a buffet, but you can also choose off the menu if you want. They also have a bistro, and you are given a food credit which would cover one meal a day, but you can use it however you want to.

I've been to different facilities, and one of them is El Castillo Retirement Residences. The facility is wonderful and very broad. They offer lots of services, and it felt very, very comfortable. The rooms are very nice. Although it's not a brand new facility, it's very clean. Their food is great. It's better than home cooked.

My mother spent the last year of her life at El Castillo, which is a multi level facility in downtown Santa Fe. There are independent living units for purchase that give the owner the benefit of transitioning into either assisted living or full nursing care as needed. It is one of only three licensed nursing facilities in town and by far the best. this was essential my mother's case as her long term care insurance required a licensed facility. The important thing to know is that one does not need to buy a living unit to enter either assisted living or full nursing care. My mother was in a 200 plus bed nursing home outside of Detroit run by a huge hospital corp. It was adequate but the resident staff ratio was probably 1 to 8 or 10. El Castillo is more like 1 to 5 or 6. There are always two RNs on duty during the day and one at nite and the balance of the staff is highly trained and, unlike many homes I've visited, happy with their work.
