I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband with Lewy Body Dementia recently became a patient at Arden Courts West Orange. So far I am extremely happy with the care he has been given and the staff are extremely nice and always willing to help out as he can be a handful sometimes. The facility is lovely nad is very clean - his room is always tidy and bed made and the laundry done. My husband is not exactly able to participate in many activities. The grounds are lovely and we do sit outside alot when i visit. I am very happy and would recommend Arden Courts

Provider Response

My aunt is now at Arden Courts Of West Orange. My experience has been outstanding. The facilities, the people, the procedures, and the schedules that they have for dementia clients are excellent. The clients are active and engaged, which is very important. The security is excellent. The staff is very kind, attentive, and caring. I'm extremely pleased. They have the residents grouped in four wings. My aunt has always enjoyed walking and she loves the outdoors, so her room has two windows, and when she's able to walk again, she's right next to a door that goes out to a secure outside path. Value for money is excellent. Everything is included. She has only been there a month, but I know what I was looking for, and they have it, so I think it's excellent. I'm paying one fee that includes the doctors and the physical therapist that come in, so I don't have to take her out. Everybody comes into the facility. Activities are included, the meals are included, and the carers are included. Getting your hair done is not included but somebody comes there to do it, so that's all there.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was in Arden Courts of West Orange last year. It's a memory care and I like the facility though the rooms are kind of old. They're nice-sized rooms though. We took her out there because we were not happy with it. They needed to get on top of the coordination of their nursing staff. They were nice, but they were not as attentive as they needed to be. I think the food was good. They had activities but she didn't like them. The building and the layout were nice but the rooms need to be updated. They're strictly memory care.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I had a relative who lived in Arden Courts, West Orange for about 5 years and I have only positive things to say about the care, the staff and the overall outlook of this memory care residence. My relative was always taken care of in a dignified manner. She was dressed nicely, encouraged to participate in activities and if not, then left to do what she felt she wanted. Since the building is gated and locked for the resident's safety, they are free to step outside to the garden areas as well as walk within the community on their own without restriction. The care staff was always attentive and the activities varied which kept my relative busy throughout the day. The nursing staff was accessible and professional and went out of their way not to alarm me when they called for any reason. I would highly recommend Arden Courts for anyone looking for a comprehensive memory care community for their relative.

Provider Response

I am a friend or relative of resident

My aunt is a resident at Arden Courts. Finding this place has been the best thing to happen to her in a long time. She receives first-rate care (and I enjoy visiting her and sharing some of the activities with her). The medical staff is very attentive and keeps me advised of any potential problems. Staff members are expert in helping the residents get the most out of what they can still accomplish and enjoy activities - my aunt is particularly fond of the regular live music and enjoys singing along (which is actively encouraged). It has made my life easier as well, as I know she's getting the level of care she needs. It's an outstanding facility.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Arden Courts in West Orange changed my mother's life for the better. When her dementia progressed and she could no longer live at home, my sisters and I researched a number of facilities, and Arden Courts in West Orange was a clear standout. My mother has been living there for 1.5 years. The nursing staff couldn't be better, as they understand the medical and psychological needs of their residents and are thorough and compassionate with their care. The entire staff has really gotten to know my mother and treats her with respect, kindness and love. My sisters and I visit our mother every day, and we witness the loving and skillful way the staff interacts with all the residents. My mother feels safe and is at peace, and there's no greater gift than that for her and her daughters. If you have a loved one who has dementia, I wholeheartedly recommend Arden Courts in West Orange!

Arden Courts provides an atmosphere of warmth, security and deep involvement with their residents. From the front desk to the administration, to the nursing staff, to the aides on each wing, we owe a dept of gratitude for keeping our mother safe and making her feel "at home". We can rest easy knowing her needs are being met and her days are pleasant. She seems to be happier and healthier than she has been in a long time, thanks to the dedication of the staff at Arden Courts. She has resided there for 2 1/2 years now.

I visited this facility

The staff at Arden Courts was very nice. You couldn't see anything lively going on. There was some sort of yoga and they had a rabbi come one day. It just wasn't a pleasant environment. The rooms were very nice. They kept them nice. It was clean. Each section had a theme, like one with was like the shore. It was decorated very nicely, but there was nothing animated about it. Looking at the menu, it was like, if I was starving, there still wouldn't be anything there that I would want. It was just an odd menu. They could improve on their food, the variety of food, and have more social activities.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We have found a facility for my husband. It is called Arden Courts. The whole building of Arden Courts is for memory care. Since they only do memory care, they are very good with people with Alzheimer's. The room is not carpeted; it has wooden floors. It has a private bathroom and a refrigerator. Activities are exercises, tossing games, and those types of things. Also, the food is very good.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My friend has been in care in Arden Courts since around Thanksgiving. We're very happy with the place. First of all, it's only for Alzheimer's and dementia. That's her problem, so it fits beautifully. I've been there any number of times. I know somebody else who was there, and I'd been impressed with the staff and the friendliness. The accommodation is simple, but it's adequate. A simple room, not all that big, and a private bath with a shower but no tub. It's all single rooms, and they have 4 wings. There are 14 people in their own wing. There is a living room available to her in each section of 14 people so that they can go into and sit in an easy chair and watch TV anytime. She has no complaints with the food. She has no praise. She is eating regularly, which she was not doing at home. They have social recreation. She is introverted and somewhat depressed and not inclined to participate too much, but they do get her out. She's not lying in bed all day as she was at home, and she watches television. I think she's less depressed there. The staff interaction with the residents is very good. There is a pat on the back or a good word. They go out of their way in that respect.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother has lived at this facility for more than three years. It is exactly as you say. The staff is warm and caring, the facility is clean, the activities staff is dedicated, and the 3 acre fenced-in area out back is fantastic for those residents who like to walk, of which my mother is one. It has been a life-safer having my mom here. We previously had her at her own home with daytime assistance for as long as we felt it was safe, but we were always worrying. Now we are worry-free.

Visited this facility

I admit I was at first a little uncomfortable that to exit the area where the Alzheimer's residents live, one needs a code to unlock the door. I know this is for their own safety, because with memory issues they need to be supervised. Once inside the living area, things are actually quite homey and nice, without any sort of "locked in" feeling. Within the supervised area of the building, the residents are free to move around as they wish. What I really liked is that residents can go outdoors if they'd like! In the protected area is a door to an enclosed courtyard area where they can sit or walk outside and still remain safe. Residents have lots of activities, and are encouraged to stay active. I was pleasantly surprised to find many of the residents reading books and newspapers.
