Kendal is a wonderful retirement community. I was impressed with both the professionalism of the staff and the attentiveness of every employee we encountered. They seem to strive to know their residents and provide a safe environment. Even the food was wonderful! The location is beautiful and I can't imagine a better place to receive both the care and concern needed at this stage of life. It is always difficult to face the decison on where to have a loved one relocate. My Grandfather had no desire to move from his home, but it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to live on his own. With the visits to several homes in the area, we seemed to be getting the same "hospital" feeling and watching people that seemed abandoned. We did not want him to feel this way. Kendal was a very different experience and was very warm and inviting. Within the first half hour, he had found people to share war stories and seemed "at home". It was a wonderful thing to see and gave us some piece of mind with the decision we had to make. It truly is a wonderful place!

The one I liked the best is Kendal at Hanover. It feels actually like a college campus. It's over a large area and there's quite a selection of living units. It is continuing care or CCRC. It's also next to a reserve where there's a lot of walking trails. For somebody who wants independent living and plenty of chances to stay active, they have activities there and they have very nice fitness facilities. The staff was friendly and very enthusiastic. There were apartments, but I liked the ones that were single-story attached. They were small, but enough for me. They had a beautiful dining room and the gym had very good equipment and spaces for classes. One of the big attractions for me was being able to get out and go for a walk. I saw quite a number of people walking their dogs, so it's pet-friendly. It's near Darthmouth College, so you can go to plays and stuff if you want.

We visited Kendal at Hanover. It was a very good place with four types of care from independent to nursing care. The staff was excellent. The apartments were small and very nice. We ate lunch there, and the food was excellent. I can’t compare this to any other place because it’s very, very good. We would love to be there.

My grandmother spent the last several years of her life at the Kendall in Hanover, New Hampshire. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and had lived previously in an assisted care facility in another city but the Kendall move was necessary because she needed more assistance than the other facility could provide. In my opinion the Kendall facility was a great place for her. They had a dedicated Alzheimer's ward and the staff was very friendly. When she did eventually pass away at age 83 they told us how sorry they were and what a great resident she was. Based on my experiences with them, I'd recommend their care to a friend for a loved one. They had good programming for the seniors and also several levels of care and very experienced staff. They also had gardening with kids (there is a pre-school on-site) and a cat that roamed free in her ward, which the residents got a big kick out of.

My parents moved to Kendal when this Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) first opened in 1991. While my father died almost eight years ago, after spending six years in their healthcare unit, my mother is still alive. Besides living in their initial independent living apartment, my mother has had an efficiency apartment in the assisted living unit, a private room and bath in the memory unit, and now, a private room and bath in the healthcare unit. I can not say enough good things about Kendal. Of course, until entering late stage dementia, my mother would have told you that neither she nor my father ever regretted their decision to move from New Jersey to live at Kendal. Furthermore, after visiting there for twenty years now, let me say that I have heard nothing but praise from residents as well as family members. Since I now visit my mother at least weekly for hours at a time, I am pleased by the care which is provided by people who have true heart for what they do. This results in a wonderful environment for residents as well as peace of mind for family members.

Kendal at Hanover has a flawless facility, excellent resident community, and more amenities than any other facility in the area. Staff at the facility are wonderful, though services have suffered between the tours that I have taken. For example, the number of meals offered to residents has been decreased. That said, residents' safety is paramount at Kendal and there are many activities available to those wishing to participate. There are shuttles available to the town of Hanover and again, the resident community is very active and caring. Residents have the option of apartments ranging from unassisted, assisted, there is a nursing wing, and an alzheimer wing.
