I was in highland manor for three weeks.April 29 to may 19. My room was beautiful, and most of all clean, the staff there was exceptional, very friendly and competent. I loved my stay there, beside having a broken hip. The physical therapy worked with me from day one, which made the transition to home help even easier. I really can't say enough good things about the people or the facility. They even let my husband stay there a few nights as we were a long way from mesquite. If i:

Avoid at all cost. Some of the nursing staff was good, however other staff bullied my father to the point he didn't want to complain about them in fear of retribution. Worst of all they did not continue his antibiotics and he went septic which resulted in amputation. DO NOT DO IT.

My father has been in the rehab center twice now. The first time they did a pretty good job at getting him back to where he eeded to be. They got him dressed everyday and helped him with his daily tasks. This time, however, has been a totally different story. They have violated many rules with him. He has an NPO order and we have found him with ice chips many times which could cause him to aspirate and cause pneumonia and die. He's been found lying flat numerous times...again this could cause pneumonia. He's on a feeding tube and he cannot be lying flat at any time! They do not get him dressed. They do not get him out of bed. They do not help him with his daily tasks. The physical and occupational therapists are wonderful but when they tell you the care in unacceptable, you know you have a big problem! There a few CNA's that are great but not many. He's had to wait hours to be changed which has caused him to have terrible rashes. The goal is to rehabilitate but when they won't even get him out of bed and help him to his chair he gets so weak in between therapy visits. I would not send anybody there!

if you are going there to recover, don't. staffing is not adequate and there appears to be a lack of concern with administrator and staffing supervisors. complaints go unheeded. there are tremendous, caring CNAs there, but abused with overwork. not the fault of food manager but food is processed garbage. she does a good job with what she has but corporate dictates food. it is an unhealthy diet. the good thing is the therapy unit.

The staff at Highland Manor is friendly. They approach you asking if you need any help or if you have any questions. They’re very accommodating. The rooms were OK, but they were more clinical. It looks like a hospital or rehab more than a house to live in for the rest of your life. You have to buzz in and buzz out. It’s clean and nice. The dining room is a small, little room, not resort-looking. Most of the people were watching TV. I just think they need to improve and make it less clinical.

Highland Manor is a very nice nursing home. It has very large rooms, mostly 2 to a room. I didn't see any private rooms. It's the set up of most nursing homes. Being a small community, I think it's probably a little more care than you usually did although they have a problem with staffing because it is a small community. It's very nice and they also have an Alzheimer's unit. They will be expanding into more later but it's not what I'm looking for because it's not a retirement community. It's a nursing home mostly.

The staff was okay at Highland Manor. The facility was just a little bit more sterile and hospital-like. It's locked down facility but it's otherwise a beautiful place.
