Never use this facility for a loved one! Skilled nursing beds in facilities that would meet my mothers needs were full. When we found there was an opening at HF we read the reviews. I decided to contact the administrator before moving my mother. She assured me that it was only the very few disgruntled patients & families that wrote the bad reviews so not having a lot of choices we took her at her word. My mother experienced ALL of the above noted horrific, incompetent, lazy & rude care and more! The APRN & the therapists are very good but even they can’t make up for the other caregivers & the poor management. In addition to the numerous examples in earlier reviews. They managed to plug her PICC line by not caring for it properly, (one nurse actually said “we don’t touch those things”) & it had to be removed. She choked numerous times on food that she should not have been given b/c she was supposed to be on soft foods only. We talked to 13 different people about her food & they never did get it right. When her condition seemed to be worsening & she wasn’t responding as much & I tried to ask the LPN what was happening, I was told “QUIT BOTHERING ME. She must be tired” When they weren’t helping mom get to the bathroom for long periods of time she would try to get up herself but was too weak. I expressed concern that she was going to fall so they put the bed in the lowest position & put a mat on the floor so she would land on it when she fell RATHER THAN toileting every 2 hours as they had been told to do. I could go on with many more examples of pathetic care. We just got our mother out of there & to another facility & she died 3 days later. She was very ill & while they (Hillcrest Firethorn) did not cause her death, they did NOTHING to help her in the last days of her life.

I am/was a resident of this facility

As beautiful as this place looks, it's a horrible place to put loved one. I am here only till I can get closer to my home. The PT, and OT is good. High praises to them. I am here as a newly double amputee so there are many things I need taught before I can do safely. I have been left to sit on a bedpan for almost 2 hours before someone will come to help me off. I have been made to wait 3 1/2hrs for pain killers. Meals are usually dried out. I have found the dressing left off my salad, and although did call for it it never came. I have had nurses get madd at me because the communication broke down on my care and throw medication. I can't wait to get out of this place!

Hillcrest Rehab was an awful place to send a loved one if you are expecting good care. The place is beautiful, but nothing was open because they do not have the appropriate staff. My mother went there as a 2 person assist and literally sat in the chair for 11 days. Her rehab was done in her chair, she slept in her chair and ate in her chair. She required assistance to eat, and if and when she got her food it was cold because there was no one to feed her when it was warm. They are terribly understaffed. Except for Kim, the nurse, and one other aid, everyone was rude to her. They left her sitting in her Depends for over 15 hours at a time because they didn't want to move her. She needed to be adjusted in her chair and was told by one aid "I'm not moving you again, you're fine". It took us 11 days to find her another place to go. It was a total waste of rehab time and more importantly, my mother was so upset and just wanted out. I have told many people not to send their loved ones to Hillcrest Firethorn Rehab. Perhaps if my mother hadn't been a two person assist it may have been better. But if your loved one needs more help than straight rehab for a knee replacement, etc., go somewhere else.

My mom has been at HF rehab for just over a week after a second stroke. They have neglected to prepare a meal for her FOUR different times despite me calling in her meals daily. They also administer her Fosamax med while she is in bed and keep her lying down. Pharmaceutical instruction dictates NOT lying down for 30 minutes after taking the med. Now she has acid reflux due to this! Do they read med instructions??? And do they care if their patients are fed?!?!?! My dad and I are having to be present and babysit to make sure she gets her food and meds. Ridiculous!!

I am/was a resident of this facility

I had to wait several hours to get Tylenol. On Friday January 29 at approximately 7:40pm I received a call from Omaha Liver Transplant team member. They had a liver for me and I need to leave as soon as possible. I went to the nursing station where two othe techs were there. The RN states at me and in a loud voice says “and who are you” very rude manner. ThevRM instructed the tech to take me to my room and watch me wash my hands. I felt beliitled, and offended by the RN caustic attitude. Please talk to her and teach her how to treat new patients

My husband was there for rehab after surgery, the therapist are excellent and the daytime staff are good but the night time staff are very rude and not helpful. Some of the CNA talk very mean to my husband that he told me if he could of he would of walked out. He has caught evening staff going through his stuff and when he asked them what they are doing my husband was told "just looking" my husband told them that is my stuff not yours, and the staff member left. He was missing gum out of his container because the empty wrappers were put back into the container which my husband doesn't like that he always throws them away. I myself have had dealings with the night nurse where she was very rude with me. Like I said earlier in this review the day staff is really good and he did have his favorites, but I feel the night staff needs some training on how to treat people. I myself worked in the medical field until I retired and I feel you treat people the way you would want to he treated and the evening shift needs to think about that.

My brother was one of the first residents at Hillcrest. Since day one the staff has been friendly and helpful. They answer all questions the family has. The facilities are top-notch. We are so grateful that our brother is safe and in an environment he enjoys. It is truly a home away from home.

Our brother is a resident at Hillcrest. He moved in shortly after it opened when there were very few residents. Since then more have moved in. His room is great and can handle everything he needs and very clean. He has lots of interactions with the staff and seems to enjoy talking with them. He has met lots of residents with whom he plays cards, watches movies, exercises and lots of different activities. The staff is very helpful to him which is great because we don't live in Lincoln and they keep us informed. We are very pleased that we found this facility where we know he is safe and well taken care of. It's been a long time since we have seen him this happy.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was at Bryan West Hospital prior to his admission to Hillcrest Firethorn - Lincoln on Feb. 26, 2020. While he was at the hospital he was making good progress after suffering three brain bleeds. He was able to walk with gait belt assistance and was cognitively doing fair and making progress. The very first day he was admitted, within the first three hours of being there he had fallen. In the 35 days he was at this facility he had more than 15 falls (and these are just the ones we were told about). My father did not have the ability, due to his brain injuries, to know that he was an extreme fall risk and yet this facility left him unattended. He made no progress here at all and I am very disappointed in this facilities ability to protect their patients. All I have left to say is . . . do not send anyone you love who is not cognitively intact or has a brain injury of any kind to this facility!!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law moved into Hillcrest Firethorn a week ago. The atmosphere is great, very friendly, and very quiet. It's a small community where you pretty much know everybody, and so that's nice. The staff comes and checks on her frequently. They're open to suggestions, and I feel like they want the best for her. The room is very nicely sized. It's a brand-new facility with nice, high ceilings which is comfortable to be in, and it's roomy, clean, and easy to get around. The dining area is nice. It's combined with the short-term side where they get the same benefits, and the same feeling of a little more homey than a nursing home style. The food seemed very good, and they can order room service, or they can go out and eat, they have a nice menu. They can go out to Starbucks and order ice cream anytime during the day, so it's nice. They have a nice calendar with an activity at least every day, and they're trying to get a church of every denomination in there, but they don't have Catholic right now, and that's the only thing missing for her. They have fun activities, like a hula and Hawaiian party, and go on field trips.
