My grandmother went to James River Nursing and Rehabilitation for rehab. They were good. The staff helped me out because my grandma did not want to go to assisted living, and the staff and I stressed to her that she was not safe to go home alone, so they helped out a lot. It seemed clean and tidy. A few times while I was there, one of the housekeepers came in to sweep her room while I was there visiting. So I think they kept up with the housekeeping and they kept it nice. I know that they had bingo and they did like a salon day, like they did their nails and stuff there. I don't know much more though cause my grandma didn't participate in it while she was there. My grandma liked the food. She commented about how it was nice to have such a different variety of food. So I think that they kept it changed pretty well and didn't give the same food too often.

While the individual rooms are pretty nice and some of the staff very helpful, they use too many people who really aren't qualified for the job they do there. Some of the aids who handle patients aren't even certified like the state mandates! The meals they serve are decent at times, but so loaded with carbs that they aren't really safe for a diabetic. Meds aren't given on a regular schedule...as in you never know for sure what time you are going to get them (meds should be given at the same time every day but they aren't).

I went to James River after I broke my hip. I had a private suite with a private shower, it was top notch luxury!! The service from the nursing staff was phenomenal, they were very attentive to my call bell and always happy to help. My therapy was hard some days but they really pushed me to get stronger even when I wanted to give up. The food was always hot and portions were more than I could finish. The activities department always had something going on to keep me busy. I would go back to this facility in the future if I ever fall apart again!

My mother ended up going to James River Nursing and Rehabilitation for skilled nursing. They've been very helpful on the admission process. Her room is pretty small. It's just basically a room, a bed, and a chest. She shares a room, a bathroom, a sink, and a closet. The staff members seem OK. I haven't had any problems with any of them. They do bingo, and they have a bible study. The facility is just average. It's not great, but it's not terrible.

There was a couple of good nurses aids, but most of the staff was uncaring. When you needed assistance and turned on the call light it would take up to an hour for the staff to respond. The residents would be left in their wheelchair all day instead of letting them lay back down. At meals the staff try to help residents eat once or twice. If the residents didn't eat right away they would be left to sit until the meal was over then taken back to their room without eating. This is not a nursing home that I would recommend for long term care. I don't know how the rehabilitation part of the facility is run.

James River Care and Rehabilitation Center has a nice entryway, a nice fish tank, and a sitting area. All the offices and front desk are right there handy. The staff has been very nice and helpful. The response times seemed to be better than the other two facilities my dad has been in. The dining area isn't much to look at, but that doesnt concern me. My dad is eating the food there better than the other place he was at. They have the typical bingo and they have dog therapy. They have more than my dad's old place for sure. It's an older place.
