My mother lived at Highland Crest for the past two and a half years before she passed away. My family and I were living out-of-town so we relied heavily on the support, kindness and professionalism of the administrator and her staff. Whenever we had questions or requests they responded quickly and with attention to detail. My mother was treated with patience, kindness and respect. The residents, staff and administrator provided a loving, caring environment and community. I highly recommend Highland Crest!
What you can do with Caring
About Highland Crest in Kirksville, Missouri
To us at Highland Crest in Kirksville, Missouri, assisted living means two things: you do the living and we help you live. Our personal assistants provide what you need when you need it. Here, the emphasis is less on paperwork and more on people. Our licensed nurse and certified medication aides get to know our residents like family, with all of their unique needs and preferences. It's like home.
Dining is a focal point of our residents' day at Highland Crest. It starts with an open breakfast with eggs just the way you like them. We accommodate our early risers ready for toast and coffee as well as those who can't start the day without a big hot breakfast. Comfort foods, foods familiar and favorite, are part of our menu.
At The Arbors at Highland Crest , living with Alzheimer's becomes less of a challenge for you and your loved one. We combine the intimacy of assisted living with specialized care for dementia. The size of the Arbors promotes a comforting, calming environment. With no more than 15 rooms, the Arbors co-exists with a sister assisted living facility, yet remains separate. Care is provided in a building specifically designed with the care of the Alzheimer's resident in mind. We consider each resident's own strengths and weaknesses to weave a seamless cloth of individualized care. We also incorporate the latest approaches to this challenging disease into the daily routines and activities of all our residents. It's difficult to even search for proper care while tending to someone with Alzheimer's. Each day presents new challenges to patients and their caregivers. At the Arbors we offer a shelter of care and advice for the entire family.
Our admission counseling services are comprehensive. Our administrator helps guide the family through all of the care options available to them as well as through the maze of paperwork involved with accessing our public long term care benefits. Making it easy on the family is our first priority at Highland Crest.

We're very impressed with Highland Crest. The care that our friend is getting is wonderful. She enjoys the meals and living there. The director is a lovely, efficient lady and the nurse is very on top of everything and takes care of any issues that arise. The environment is lovely. The rooms are all lovely and very clean. The hallways are clear of clutter. The whole facility is very welcoming and has a beautifully decorated lobby. The residents eat at round tables with linen napkins. They have timely decorations for holdiays, like Valentine's Day, and now they have St. Patrick's Day decorations up. They do have activities like card games and on Valentine's Day, some of the residents got together and decorated cookies. They also have bible studies and daily physical exercises.

My grandmother has stayed at Highland Crest for the last four years and has seen a marked increase in her personal well being and happiness. Back in Kirksville, she lived a fair distance away from us and it was always difficult to travel to her and to help her receive proper care sometimes. Highland Crest was easy for her to adjust to and the staff is incredibly friendly and cordial, with the same kind of southern feeling that my grandma feels comfortable in. The food is much better than living at home and grandma isn't so isolated and can be around people and friends again. Her stay at the facility has led to a lot of good changes in her life and I think it was a wise and beneficial decision. Highland Crest has done nothing but help us adjust to this new lifestyle, both for us and for grandma.
