I toured St. Charles Senior Living. It was a little more controlled as far as dementia went. I like the outside area. It was nice and large. I didn't ask how many people would use that area, but it was fenced in very well. And they couldn't just get out, but if they did, they'd still be fenced in, so you wouldn't have to worry about them running off someplace. It's a good-sized outdoor space with large fenced-in and raised gardens and swings. The person did a wonderful job of walking with me to each portion of where the person would be from the room to where they gathered and where they ate. With regards to activities, there were some crafts things that they worked with the people to do. I don't know if my husband could do any of that sort of thing, but just being with other people doing it and just moving his hands around and whatnot on something would probably be a good thing.

St. Charles Senior Living had a private room and a private bathroom. The facility was very nice, clean, modern, and certainly of high standards. The director did a wonderful job with the tour. She told us all about the facility, like how long the place has been there, and we were very satisfied. They do recreational things three times a week where they get people to sit down. They have people come in and play piano. They have sing-alongs.

St. Charles Assisted Living was nice. We looked at a studio and a one-bedroom. My mother is still mobile and she still drives her own car. She wanted something where her car would be close. The only thing that bothered her was that the garages were not attached to the room. It was in the middle of a huge renovation at the time, so it's going to be gorgeous when it gets done. At this point, there wasn't anything wrong with it. It was fine before the renovations. It just isn't going to allow her to have the kind of independence that she's still demanding. I saw two dining areas and a nice patio outside, and it was well-decorated and clean. The meals were posted. There were snacks. The staff was accommodating. We called and made an appointment the same day that we called. They're in the middle of painting, so everything was down, but you could see that pictures were going to go back up on the wall, so it was great. It was lovely. There was a library, there were two different common areas with a beautiful fireplace and decorations, and a front desk. She's allowed to come and go if she wants and eat meals in the common area if she wants. The one-bedroom had a space for a microwave and a refrigerator. The studio was kind of tiny, and there was probably not as much space for that. On the whole, it was very nice.
