We chose Southern Oaks Place for our parents because it's a smaller community, which makes it easier for my dad to walk to dinners or to get meals. The other ones were huge. He has a little bit of a problem walking, so this is more intimate. It's very clean. Even though it's along a very busy street, you don't hear the traffic. The grounds were nice. The people were nice. The dining area looked really good. The food had a good selection.

Southern Oaks Place looked clean and it had a lot of old furniture. The staff were very nice, knowledgeable, and answered all of our questions. The dining area was clean, too. I think they have a van where they can do some outings or to the grocery stores. They also have people come in and do activities with them, whether it be like arts or music. I didn't realize that the rooms were just a room with a bed and nothing else, and we're looking for more like an apartment style.

Southern Oaks Place looked nice. It was clean, they've got friendly people, and everybody seemed content. It was a nice place. They had nice apartments. The staff member during the tour was helpful in advising about the elderly waiver, and then she was very detailed and thorough in telling you all the different things. I was liking it, but it took us an hour to get there, so I already kind of knew that it was not gonna work out. They had the activities, but they don't really have transportation to get you to the doctors and stuff, so you have to come get your own for that. They had the courtyard, the salon, and the gym. We met a nurse there and she was really nice. It was by a lot of different things. There were restaurants, and I saw a hospital there, and there was a clinic, so it was in a good location.

We toured and it was clean, comfortable, and something my husband would really like in a place. I would place myself where I was comfortable. The staff were very friendly and nice; it gave me the comfort I needed for him when I walked in that door. Trisha is the one that showed me around. She was very gracious, nice, and she answered every question I have. I was able to call her back, and she still answered more questions. It just made me comfortable that this decision was going to be right even though I would want him to stay home. Everybody I saw there greeted me and said hello. I was very, very comfortable knowing he is going there. The room for him will be a single room, and it is a private room. I think all of their memory care is private. It has a nice bathroom and you get a bed, a chair, and a dresser. It just enough room for him to make it feel somewhat like home. They have musicians come in and crafts; they have a whole program for them.
