The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower used to be a beautiful old hotel and they've done a lot of work on it. It is very comfortable. My husband has a great room and the whole second floor is assisted living. All of the girls that work on that floor have been wonderful. They're good to my husband. They care about him and do anything to make him feel better and comfortable. They're always very gracious and helpful to me and I always try to keep them informed if I know things that I think they should know. I think they're concerned about all the residents. Everybody is friendly and helpful. So, it's been a good fit all the way around and I think they're doing a great job. There's a cafe on the second floor for all the assisted living people to eat. We also had lunch downstairs in the independent living, where my husband's friend is. The waitress comes and asks what you want for lunch and to help yourself to the salad bar and they always have a dessert of some kind. It was like a restaurant and didn't feel like assisted living. They have a lot of activities. They have a bus that goes to Myers and Wal-Mart and it's also available to take people to the doctor or the dentist. Then I would have to meet them there and they would either wait or I would call them when it was time to pick him back up. They are redoing rooms as they come up empty. They're painting and I think they're putting in new windows. So, they're trying to make it a first-class place, yet it's not as expensive as some of the places around here. There are a couple of other beautiful new facilities here, but they're more expensive. All things considered, I thought The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower was the best place. It's downtown in Saint Joseph and when the days are nice, I can take my husband in his wheelchair, walk across the street into a big park area, look out on the lake, and get fresh air and sunshine. Also, we can go down to an ice cream place or have lunch downtown. These other places (no matter where they are) mostly don't have a view. They're just more of a business setting.

The tour I had at The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower was satisfactory and comprehensive. The facility was clean. The residents seemed like they were engaging in whatever they were doing. The building was under renovation. We saw a few rooms and some of them were also under renovation, the halls, the floors, but the rooms otherwise were clean. They seemed a little small for us, and they were without kitchenettes. The amenities seemed fine. Most of the facilities that I talked to or that we saw online offered pretty similar amenities. Linda, the lady in charge, and the other lady we saw were great. The property is on the lake.

If I'm gonna move, I'm going to go into The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower. I liked it. It had everything that I was looking for. It had an independent room and a restaurant. It had every amenity I could ever think of. If I ever needed any more help for anything, it's there. It's beautiful and clean. The people I met were fantastic, including some of the residents I ran into. I was very happy with the whole situation. The room was fantastic. I'm going to get a furnished room. There's no big view where that room is, but I like the size. It's a very large studio apartment, much larger than I thought it would be. It's got the internet and my television. Anything I need is there. They have a bus that will take me to my doctor, pick me up from my doctor and bring me back. I was happy with that. They will take me also if I need any kind of groceries, which I won't need because they have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a restaurant, and they have a huge room for other activities like exercise, movie nights, and bingo. They check on you three times a day, like if you don't show up for meals. They just have everything you could ever possibly think of. I'm really happy with what I saw. They have certain times of the day when you could eat, which gives you a couple of hours for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The people I've talked to seemed to be pretty happy with the place. The staff was fantastic.

I'm living in The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower, and I like everything. The people are nice. The food is good. The room suits my needs. It's a studio. It's a little bigger than a regular studio, so it's adequate-sized. They have exercise classes, piano concerts, games, and things like that. There are no grounds. It's an old hotel that's right in the middle of town. It's right by the lake, so we get a beautiful view of the lake. Their activities get a pretty good turnout, though I haven't been to any of them yet. The overall value for the money is good.

My father is at The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower. There are currently new owners. He's been there for two years now and he's very happy there. His church is in the area. It's been very good. I'm very happy that he's there and he's happy. I love the other clients there. I love that the staff is very caring about him. They've got wonderful residents and wonderful staff. It was economically appropriate for my dad. The staff is very good, very personable, very caring, and very nice. They are certainly experienced in what they do. Dad is very pleased with the food there very much so. To me, they are very conscious of the way they prepare the food and they give certainly a variety at every meal. You're not just eating one type of food. They give you choices, too. They bake, they broil, and they roast. I haven't been aware of any fried food. If they do, it's very rare. It's very healthy food. They will prepare food even if you have allergies. They prepare food just for you. It's a very nice facility. The new people plan to upgrade where it's very necessary. They're going to do areas more for the people there. They have different health exercises, various games, and they're taught different card games, movies, they have educational speakers come in very frequently, they have music entertainment quite often, day trips weekly, and restaurant trips weekly. They're very lucky to have the outdoor symphony right next door, so there is a big band show, that they can attend. Their location is just ideal. They're right Downtown St. Joe. A beautiful park is right across the street from them. It is a million-dollar-plus location. Value for money is very fair. It's tremendous when you think about what they get there compared to other facilities.

I went to look at The Whitcomb Senior Living Community. When we walked in, it was very spacious and very nice. They have separate rooms. They have a sitting room where they have a piano bar and entertainment. They came down later, and they did arts and crafts. They were doing ceramic Christmas ornaments, painting ceramic trees, and different ornaments. They have a section for movie nights and popcorn. They have games in the dining room area. The different floors have different kinds of people, depending on the needs. The rooms we looked at were very clean. The staff is very nice. The people that were living there and who we talked to seemed to enjoy it. It overlooks the lake in the river, and you could see the White House from there. It had a really nice shopping area. There was a hairdresser next door. You can go to different stores. They have banking there. It was very convenient and very nice. They do a lot to accommodate you. It's not cheap though, but none of the places are. They have outings. They go to Myer every Thursday. They have casino trips. It's a very good place to be. It does need some repairs and modifications. With COVID, they stopped the renovation that they were doing. But other than that, they're doing a great job. From what we've seen and the people we talked to, everything was good. They have the menu posted for the day. They have different meals each day, so it's not the same thing. They have a section there if you just want to come down in the morning and have coffee and chat with people.

We visited The Whitcomb Senior Living Community Assisted Living, and we were not too impressed with it. It was a hotel and was just run down, although they are trying to fix it up. It was a lot less, but it just didn't have the same feel as other places. It just looks like a run-down motel, that's what it was. I went in the bathroom, they had fixtures that were broken, and the broken stuff was still there. They didn't have the little kitchenette, a fridge, or a microwave. The staff was very sweet. She was very nice and walked us through all the rooms. It just wasn't our cup of tea, and it wasn't as nice. She showed us the dining area, we didn't really see any food. I know it is a work in progress, trying to get it up to par with the other facilities. Even the rooms -- when we went in, you could tell they were just cleared-out hotel rooms. It just didn't have that homey feeling. They had chairs in the hallway. They were trying, but it just wasn't there.

My mom has been living at Whitcomb Tower Retirement for 11 years, and right now she's good. It's a very old hotel in the downtown area where you have an individual room. My mother has a nice two-bedroom with a living room and a bathroom. The décor is from the 1800s, and they live right along the shoreline on the bluff of Lake Michigan, so there are places to walk. They have one-bedrooms for the nursing floor and a dining room for that nursing area. My mother can go downstairs to a really nice dining room and have her food there. There's also laundry. They try to have some entertainment come in once a week, plus bingo, exercise, book clubs, and outings.
