About Brookdale Portage (MC) in Portage, Michigan
At Brookdale Portage we know that memory losses due to Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia are progressive and residents' needs are continually changing. That's why we provide balance in our residents' capabilities, personalities, and preferences to create daily routines that enhance their spirits and increase their sense of purpose. We believe the amount of satisfaction our Alzheimer's and dementia care residents receive from the tasks that fill their days goes a long way to maintaining their sense of purpose and overall satisfaction with life. An integral part of this is our promise to encourage each resident to find Daily Moments of Success. To help our residents achieve these moments, our associates receive the tools and training needed in such key areas as specialized dining and the ongoing monitoring of healthcare and behavioral needs, to name a few. I was very impressed with this facility. The rooms were spacious. My dad had a smile on his face for the first time in a long time. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. I love the dining area where the residents get to sit together. There is an excellent variety of activities and food. We will be bringing dad in starting March 1.

My mom is in Brookdale Portage. It looked great, the feel is good, and we've been very happy with all the care my mom has gotten. They're doing a great job, it's a pleasant place, she's safe, and she's cared for.

The person who took us on a tour at Brookdale Portage was very nice. One of the things I didnt like about it was they had several little dining rooms scattered in different areas that didn't have any windows. I didn't like it because everybody was separated from everybody else from the building. The other thing I didn't like it was they had rooms instead of apartments, so it would be much smaller. The people I met were nice, friendly, and personable.

I like the private rooms in Brookdale Portage, because they have kitchenettes. It was very nicely appointed and very clean. I spoke to the people living there and they were all very complimentary; I didn't hear one complaint. But they almost didn't have outside areas to go visit when the weather is nice. They have almost nothing by way of gardens or paths to walk in. They do have some very nice lounges, dining areas, and common areas.

This community is not a place to take your loved one! The Executive Director is lazy and has no leadership skills. She treats the staff poorly, pretends to care about the residents, and has no education to be in this position! The residents receive inadequate care, sit in their urine and feces while unattended for long periods of time, there are little to no activities, and they hire people off of the streets with no experience and then put them on the floor to work before fulfilling state requirements. This place is dirty and the residents suffer!!!!

Brookdale is excellent. It was a good tour, and everyone was very friendly. I just don’t like how they mix all the stages of Alzheimer’s. The staff was great, very connected, caring, and interested in our concerns. They do have four private rooms, and I liked that. They had a little sitting room in the bedroom. They have very nice greenhouse for patients; they can color, they can do puzzles, and I think their activities are nice.

Brookdale Portage is an amazing memory care community. The Health and Wellness Director is the most caring and compassionate member of the management team. She always goes above and beyond to make sure your loved one is taken care. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I would NEVER recommend this place, nor even begin to consider putting a loved one here. Very rude, untrained aides, and uncaring management. Not a comfortable place and not a safe place.

This place looks great but provides inadequate care. in 9 months our bill for personal services went up over a $1000.00 a month. They charge for every little thing they can. The communication between management and staff is terrible. Very high turn over in aides with little to NO training. No male aides. Lots of lies and empty promises. They take no responsibility for anything that happens to you loved one while placed in there care. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The rooms were nice at Clare Bridge. Their food was good and they had lots of activities. They had outings and people came in to entertain the residents. However, I didn't like the area where it was situated.

We visited Clare Bridge of Portage Assisted Living while in the area looking at assisted living facilities to consider for my friend's mother. We immediately liked the outer exterior, which appeared very well maintained. The grounds were nicely landscaped, with tree-lined walkways and seating areas. We could feel a very good vibe when we stepped inside. We did not have an appointment, yet the staff was very accommodating and took us on a full tour. This facility can accommodate a variety of ambulation levels and as needs change, the care team adjusts accordingly. There were ample communal rooms for activities, from reading in the library, to card games, physical exercise, crafting and hosted meetings. The fitness center offers regular exercise classes, swimming pools, an aquatic center and spa. They even have an indoor walking track. The personal trainers are on hand to ensure safety while assisting the seniors in every way they can. The private living spaces were generous, and the studio and one bedroom we saw was beautifully decorated with lots of fresh air and light. All units were well designed, efficient and yet still spacious. The dining room was quite nice, with plenty of space. The food we saw looked and smelled delicious. They operate a Culinary Arts Institute that creates impressive menus that you would find in a five star restaurant. There were healthy food options for all kinds of diets. Healthy snacks are also offered all day and into the evening, as well as whenever residents request them. The outside activities feature many interesting cultural events in the immediate and surrounding areas, like films, art and other interesting cultural gatherings. \ This is a well-designed living environment for seniors that includes everything that they need. We were impressed with how the staff here interacts with residents with great kindness and caring.
