Independence Village is a gem! We are quite lucky to have this facility in our community. The rooms are comfortable, the staff is caring and attentive, the daily activities engaging. My mother has been here for three years: she is more active, more social and eats healthier than she did previously. I appreciate the fact that Mom can "age in place," receiving as much care as is needed as her physical situation changes. It helps knowing she won't have to leave her "home" again . . .

The entire staff of Independence Village Petoskey is incredibly patient and caring. They take the time to get to know residents personally and provides the feel of an extended family. There is a multitude of events that are engaging and led by enthusiastic individuals. The food quality and choice are superior and they monthly special buffet cannot be missed. Grateful to have such a wonderful place and caring staff for my mother. She was initially skeptical and now loves it and is thriving both mentally and physically.

My mother has lived at Independence Village for 5 years. She tells me on a daily basis how happy she is living there. She mentions the safety, the community of friends and neighbors, and the many activities offered - including bingo, chair volleyball, sit and fit, concerts and themed parties. But, top of her list is getting her evening meal! The chef is great, and offers a wonderful menu of choices. After years of living alone she says moving to IV is the “best decision she ever made.”

The facility is lovely but much more importantly the staff is incredibly kind. They really make an effort to engage with every resident to try and make their experience and lives fulfilling. Additionally, my father tells me the food is outstanding which is important to him.

IV is a great place for someone like my mom who wants to still be independent but have lots of social opportunities right on-site. She uses the fitness room, the exercise classes, the entertainment events, the ancillary resources like the hair salon, chapel, etc. Staff is very accommodating and various outings throughout the year offer a chance to get out to other places.

My mom has been at Independence Village for 1 1/2 years. The staff was fabulous ahead of time showing my husband the different apartment options ( studio, one bedroom and 2 bedroom. She chose the 1 bedroom which is very spacious and it was painted and spotless when we moved her in. The staff was at the door to greet her and the health director stopped by to evaluate how much care would be needed. The meals are delicious and the third Sunday of every month they have a fantastic brunch and the residents can invite guests. Because my mom has limited eyesight one of the kitchen staff comes by once a week to help my mom select her menu choices. The facility is very warm and welcoming not only by the staff but the decor is lovely and is decorated to the nines at every holiday. There is a library, exercise room, a little cafe, laundry room, a beauty shop and chapel etc. They clean the resident’s apartments every 2 weeks. My mom gets help with showers twice weekly and medications twice daily and the staff is very caring and friendly. They offer exercise classes, WII games, movies, popcorn, concerts and several outings. We looked at several places and Independence Village was far and above the others.

The food is great with good variety. Maintenance is quick to fix any problems. Tony is great. Good friendly services, clean and well maintained. Very friendly and personable staff everywhere. The nursing care is great as well. I can’t really say anything bad.

My mother has been living at Independence Village for over two years. We are both over the moon happy with the entire staff and all that the Village has to offer. The rooms are clean, the grounds are gorgeous and the food is good. Can't say enough about the wellness staff and the phenomenal care they give mom. They create individual wellness plans based on her needs and we can add to or subtract from the plan as her needs change. There are fun activities for everyone and the special events are so well planned and carried out. Mom has taken advantage of Bible Study, Sunday church service, exercise group, weekly concerts, movies, the hair salon, toe nail clipping and she also has a Rummicube group that meets twice a week. This is her routine but there are so many more activities available. To many to mention here. Our entire experience at the Village, starting with the initial contact and tour, through the move in process, adjustment periods, and everything else along the way has been exceptional. The entire staff goes out of their way to assist the residents and they always do so with a SMILE. We are both so grateful for Independence Village. Than you one and al!!

My mother researched and chose Independence Village on her own, and the told my brother Dave of her decision. Our family has lived in Petoskey for 60 years. She knows many residents there and many friends. She enjoys the many and varied activities. I have enjoyed many dinners and various holiday banquets there. The food is wonderful.

This facility is perfect for my parents. My parents are safe and happy there. The rooms are quiet and spacious. The food is delicious. The staff has been kind and responsive to their needs. My parents enjoy the religious services and musical entertainment the most. The grounds are beautifully maintained. My parents enjoy walking and sitting outside when the weather permits.

We moved my mom to Independence Village over 4 years ago. Since, her Alzheimer's has increased and was recognized by not only family, but also staff of Independence Village. They made more accommodations available to her and she continues thrive there. The food is wonderful. The building is terrific. The activities are fun. The very best part of Independence Village though is the staff. They are fantastic and so caring for all the people living there. Independence Village has everything you need without even having to leave the building. It's like a cruise ship on land that never has to leave the dock.

My mom loves living at Independence Village. She can't believe it took her so long to move in there. She enjoys a physical fitness activity every day to keep herself moving. Tai Chi, Chair Volleyball, Sit to Fit, Thera Band and Wii activities. Her favorite part is having her evening meal provided in the dining room with other friends. Great choices every day. They have happy hour days, musicians come on a regular basis, outdoor picnics, movies, treat carts, chefs and wine specialists present programs, therapy dogs come for visits and so much more. The staff is great, linen and towel laundering provided, nursing staff visits if needed, room cleaning every other week and fantastic holiday and seasonal decorations. The activities staff comes up with amazing week long programs like cruise week with a stop in several ports with the meals of the day corresponding with the stop....Italy, Ireland, Monaco...Camp week had s'mores day and some field trips to Camp Daggett and Camp Walden. The rooms have full size appliances if cooking is desired. One, two and three meal plans are available. There is a coffee shop every morning with some pastries, dry cereal and lively conversation. IV gives my siblings and me peace of mind that she is checked on daily and they report anything unusual to one of us. Wonderful place to enjoy your golden years.

We like Independence Village of Petoskey much better than the others, but the problem with Independence Village is it's pretty expensive for our budget. They seemed much better organized and had more to offer. We were hoping we could afford Independence Village because of its offerings. The food is supposed to be good and there are a lot of activities. The least I liked is, that there will be two of us and two cats, which is great because they do accept pets, but on the other hand, it's only like 850 square feet. It's a very small space and we're coming from a house that has three floors to it. Animals are add-ons. They have carports and that is also an additional charge. It seemed like there were a lot of additional charges. The personnel seemed very knowledgeable and very helpful. The neat thing was when we did our tour, the director had three meals sent home with us so that we could explore the food. The food was excellent. It was really special good food. It's hard to match, but the small room is kind of holding us back. We'd have to leave most everything behind. We're just not sure if we can manage that. We don't need a big place, but for two people and two pets, it looked kinda crowded. It's probably one of the nicest that you can find of that kind. We just are still trying to work out finances. They have double rooms, but we were told by the director that they have a huge waiting list for the double bedrooms. The staff was top-notch. They all were very friendly. You could tell, that anybody that we passed in the hall, seemed very, very knowledgeable and helpful. For a single person, the room would be adequate. I'm just not sure with two people. There's nothing wrong with it. They seemed to keep everything clean.

Independence Village has been wonderful for my Mom. Her room is lovely and has everything she needs, including a lovely view and access to the outside. The staff are super attentive and keep everyone busy in really positive ways. Their attention to details and social celebrations - little and big - are just so thoughtful and fun. I am just happy to know she gets to thrive in such a welcoming community.

My mom’s apartment is really nice and very roomy. The staff is outstanding. Very friendly and patient with her. The whole process from talking about moving through moving in and getting her acclimated was very relaxed and easy. Best advertisement is that my Mom tells everyone she’s very happy there and is where she needs to be.

Independence Village of Petoskey was very nice. I loved it there, but my husband has dementia, and they don't have the ability to take care of people with dementia. He can't live independently, so he would have to have more help, and they told me they wouldn't be able to help him. It was a wonderful tour. The rooms and the staff were excellent. They knew that my husband had dementia, and they told me they had no openings for him because they don't have space for dementia people. It's more like independent care, so he's not qualified. The dining area looked perfect. Everything about the place was perfect. It's a very wonderful location, and the building looked perfect, and well cared for.

My sister was a resident of Independence Village of Petoskey. The place was clean and she was happy with it. The dining room was large and nice. It fits about a hundred people so it was quite noisy, but they also have another one that's private. The layout of the place was good. The food was really very good, they have various meals that you can select at any time, and you can have adjustments made to those meals. It's like what a restaurant would have, but it's a more expensive place compared to the community my sister moved to.

My husband is in Independence Village, and the whole thing is excellent. He has a very large studio apartment. The staff is wonderful. The food is really good, and they have four or five different options at lunch and dinner, plus they always have hamburgers, hot dogs, and grilled cheese. He taught a class there for a while, and they have speakers.
