My cousin is in American House Jenison. I really like the building that he's in. He has really good caregivers and he's happy there. They do a good job. I have not tried the food, but he loves it. I usually just go visit him and hang out. I see him a couple of times a week and take him his mail. They usually have stuff going on in the dining room, activity room, or whatever. Every day they have something going on.

I toured American House Jenison. I love it there. The facility was nice. It has a washer and dryer in the unit. That's what I really like. The staff was very nice and friendly. The tour was nice.

We toured American House Jenison. It was nice and clean. The rooms they showed us were studios, and they were very spacious. The staff member answered all our questions thoroughly, and he was really nice. He wanted the patients to get involved with eating in the dining room and talking, and not just sitting in their rooms all the time.

I toured American House Jenison. From the time that I met Natalie she was very cordial, very polite, big smiles, and we had a good time. We had a good conversation. She was pretty thorough in presenting American House, which was nice. The place speaks for itself. It's very well-kept. The grounds and the apartments are nice. When we went into the open one, my sister was thinking about the living room area. When you walk in it is quite generous as far as space, then the bedroom. It was nice, had a very big closet, and a nice size bathroom. They do supply two meals a day if you want them, so that's included in the price along with all the utilities. Internet is also included in the price itself. There's this big bay window in the back that has a nice and beautiful view. There's a creek and a huge piece of land behind it. It's very calm. It's very serene. There's a beautiful golf course right across the street and there's a bike path out by the road that goes for miles. There's shopping, coffee, businesses, auto repair, and there's all kinds of stuff just blocks away.

My parents will be moving into American House Jenison. We put a deposit down and we're on a waitlist. It just felt like there was a lot of stability. The manager that we toured with talked about the chef who has been there for 30 years, and a lot of the staff have been there a long time. There's not as much staff turnover, which to me feels like a sign that the staff are being treated well and paid well, which means that in turn they are going to be happy in their job, and just better able to take care of the residents. The rooms are basic, but warm and nice, and there's adequate natural light. I like the little kitchenettes, and I liked that the independent living area has interior hallways. If my parents were going to go, like in the wintertime to get food, they don't have to go outside and risk tripping or anything like that. We toured around the facility and saw all the different activity rooms and social spaces. They had outdoor walking paths and an exercise room. They also sometimes push tables to the side in the main eating room and have an exercise class in there. We saw the independent living, and then by accident, we saw a little bit of the memory care because we went in the wrong door. The atmosphere just felt calm, but it didn't feel artificially sedated. It was nice. It's down the road from a couple of things. The dining area is big and open and easy to see where everything's laid out. They explained that it's continental breakfast in the morning and then a big midday meal, and that the big midday meal is usually pretty lively. They go on a lot of outings. They go on tours. They have book clubs, they have bible studies, and they have wine tastings and stuff sometimes. It's not the newest, but I actually liked that. I toured a different facility that was newer and I asked if they had something that American House had and they said, "That's a really good idea, we should do that."

American House Jenison was my favorite. They offered a high level of care and it was very beautiful with clean facilities. Their location was nice, too. The tour director knew the residents by names. They were very friendly. They had their brochures and the menu for the dining areas. They had a great food selection and also options if a resident didn't particularly like a meal that was being served. It was a great facility.

They did a nice job at American House Jenison. The team there was very informative. They let me know the pricing and let me know all the different capabilities they had there. They showed me multiple rooms. It was a very good tour. I had a very good understanding of what they have. I wasn't looking for extended activities. I looked more for caring and the environment it was in if it was a safe environment and so forth. They have programs and there's plenty of open spaces. Their buildings are set in groups of 20 residents to a building. Within that building, they have multiple areas where residents can stay and do things, play games, interact with each other, and so forth.

We like American House Jenison because we'd rather be a little closer to our kids, and it just has everything that we want. It doesn't matter that we had to put money down because if it doesn't happen, we'll get it back. We felt pretty comfortable with all of that. It's a very nice place, and I was surprised because my husband is not keen on all this, but he was really happy about this one. It has a washer and dryer in the apartment itself, so that works well for us. There was no pressure from Kevin, the man that showed us around and everything. He was very laid back and he said that if something happens or if you change your mind, no questions asked, we'll give you the $500 back. That felt good to us. The rooms are beautiful, at least the few that we were in. They were painted nicely, and the layouts are good. They were top-notch. I would think that is an apartment that somebody in a real apartment might like to live in, too. We were very impressed with that. Kevin took us around the whole building, and we saw everything that was going on, but it was kind of like lunchtime. So, there weren't a lot of people doing stuff except eating and laughing in the dining room. I would say the living atmosphere is pretty good. We walked through the dining room and several people looked up and smiled and said hello. It's just completely independent, they're not taking that world word lightly. Kevin was really low-key, but very nice, and he answered our millions of questions. It's a nice, beautiful-looking place as well. That's not the most important thing to us, but it was very nice. The facility was lovely. Everything was well taken care of, and they have lots of activities and trips you can go on. You wouldn't be bored there. They have a library, a fishing pond, a billiard room, whatever you can think of, they have it there.

I toured American House Jenison, and I liked that. They have smaller houses with like 20 people in each one. I think the response time and the care might be better because it's smaller. The person who took me on a tour was interested, and friendly. Upkeep and cleanliness looked fine to me. There were a few restaurants, but it's a residential area mostly.

My mother is staying at American House Jenison for respite. She is on her second month, and she is in memory care. It's a newer facility. It's about eight years old, very well maintained, and very clean. It's very close to where I live, so it's easy access. I could literally walk there if I had to. I'm not there during the day. From what I kind of see at night, I think the staff could be more attentive (and I'm there a lot). There are activities. One thing that I have found with memory care patients is they don't necessarily read the board and say, "Today, the saxophonist is coming. I think I want to go to that, so I'm going to tell the nurse I want to go to that." I have to ask them to make sure they go to her room and take her. Sometimes they remember, sometimes they don't. I feel like when somebody is in a place like that, it's pretty dull on a daily basis. You just pretty much are in a room. If you don't participate, it makes it a very long day. I feel like I have to get on them to say, "Hey, today the saxophone player is going to be there. Make sure you go ask her or take her. If she says no, you just take her" that type of thing. I have noticed that they have musicians. They take bus trips. They have cart rides, and they have a painter come in. They have dual activities every week. One week I noticed that they had three activities. They have an exercise morning. They stay pretty active in that sense. The dining area is clean, but the food is average. I feel like when you go in and sign up, they sing a high song. Then when you're there and you see what's going on (on a consistent basis), I realized no. When they say they walk around every two hours, that is incorrect. They do not. They should be more engaging, not just sit at a front desk and look at a screen that shows the hallway. They just see a resident walking over to the neighbor's place and stuff like that.

My mom is currently at the American House Jenison. They're very friendly, helpful, and very caring workers. Her room is very nice and bigger than expected. Everything looks great. Any time we've needed anything, they're right on top of it. She said the food is good, and they have plenty of it, so she's never going hungry. The dining area is nice and bright, it's a good setup with lots of room. They do some exercise classes, they have special groups come in to do musical things, they have outings, and so on. The staff has been good, they've been very helpful when we've needed extra attention. They just don't have enough staff, that's the only issue I have, but that's the same for most places.

I toured American House Jenison. It's older, and so it looks more like an institution, but it's clean and pleasant and it's a nice place to visit. The staff was very nice. They didn't talk much about the activities. I noticed that they have some gardening space where the people who live there can participate in doing some gardening. The room was very nice. It was a good size as far as what we were looking for, which was a one-bedroom.

American House Jenison was OK. They seemed nice enough. For the price that you got to pay for this place, it seemed like it did not suit what you ended up getting out of it. There weren't that many amenities. The apartments were not very cozy, but the facility itself looked nice and pretty. The buildings were well-kept and the grounds were nice.

American House Jenison was nice, very modern, bright, and airy. It just didn't have the homey feel to it. It's more commercial. We've seen the independent and the assisted. They had libraries, a hobby room, a barber shop area, and a music area or entertainment thing right in the main center of the building on the ground floor, where if there was going to be a concert or something, everybody would just kind of gather in that area. They had good facilities. They just kind of felt more along the lines of an upscale convalescent center. The staff member during the tour was very good, very knowledgeable, and caring. We spent so many hours there, and we were tired, and he realized it. They did real well. It was clean.

My 91 yr. old mom had a terrible experience in this facility. Many of the staff were cold in their interactions & obviously not provided adequate education to understand & care for the population hired to serve. In my mom's case, they were sited for 2 violations by the State- R400.153505 Resident Protection. Both instances inflicted emotional distress & one worsened physical injuries/pain sustained from a fall. The staff showed lack of concern, empathy, & proper care when my mom was at her most vulnerable. A staff member told inappropriate stories in front of her of how so many residents died on their shift they became known as, "the angel of death". The day after my mom's fall, she asked to eat in her room due to the pain AND WAS REFUSED & forced to go to the dinning room. She died 1 wk. later. More negatives in the 1 month she was here, but too many to list. I sent letters to AH regarding concerns & not one word from anyone to express regret or apology for how my mom was treated.

My mom stayed in American House Jenison. It was a wonderful experience. They listened to my requests, and my mother was placed in a unit that the majority of the people were still in their right minds. My mom was ninety-five, but she was mentally very sharp; so, I wanted to make sure she was in a unit where she could mentally engage, and they did do that. Everything was good; we couldn't have been happier with the experience. It was short, but what we experienced was good. We didn't get to know the staff very well, but my mother spoke very highly of the ones that she had interacted with. They were helpful and were kind to her. My mother said the food was very good, and she enjoyed the ice cream cart that came around every night about 7:30 every day. It could have used a little updating in some areas, but it was clean, and it was very convenient for everything. They had activities within the building; because of COVID, they haven't started much of the outside, like little outings with the bus and stuff like that. They were comparably priced to other places. My mother had long-term care insurance, because of that, she was able to have a larger room. We did end up having to pay for it because she has been there long enough to collect on it. But, because she had long-term care insurance, she got a bigger room than the average room, which was nice. Compared to the other places in town, they were comparable in rates. They have a beauty salon and a little library. The grounds outside were beautiful. They had a lot of ponds and gazebos outside where the people could walk to and sit.

I did a tour of American House Jenison. I liked all the room choices; they were all nice. I probably would not select the studio just because it doesn't have a shower in the room. There was nothing I didn't like. The staff was friendly, and the woman that took me around (I believe her name was Natalie) was very informed and answered my questions thoroughly. I love the place. They have a beauty salon and a library. I really liked that in their community room was a fireplace. I just love that. I saw the activity schedule. It kind of looks like a menu, and they have things going on there. Outside they have a pavilion. I asked if the residents ever go out there, she said they do. Tthey can use it if the family comes to visit. It's very, very attractive outside. It's very homey because it's set up with different buildings (with a limited number of people). I like the longevity of the staff. I don't remember her title, but she was in charge of her building; she's been there 20 years. I like that.

We toured American House Jenison and it was very nice and very well maintained. I'm 50 years old, and it appealed to me. The only issue that I could see would be that the tub is not a full walk-in, where there's very little transition. It's kind of got part of the tub sidewalls and then almost like a U out of it where you step in there. But it was kind of still a high step for both of my parents and that would be the one thing that I would change, the actual shower stall, I would make it like a complete walk-in. The staff was very nice and friendly. We did not get to see the dining area because we looked at the independent. The dining area was in a different building, it wasn't in the same building. There was a washer and dryer on-site, which was nice for my parents, had they chosen to go there. They wouldn't have to take it anywhere. In American House, they were kind of split up into pods, per se. So, we didn't see the activities or question the activities or anything like that.

My mother moved to American House Jenison a couple of weeks ago. The care is very good, and I have no complaints. The staff is also very good. Cathy is her charge nurse, and she keeps me updated a couple times a week. Her room is very large and very nice. The food is OK. She just feeds on puree, so nothing tastes good. In terms of value for the money, it's quite high, but it's the best we could do at the time. They try to keep her busy. I'm very satisfied with the care so far.

My mother will be moving into American House Jenison in their memory care unit called Sandalwood. We chose it because of the proximity. My brother lives literally five minutes away, and they have six friends that are all within five minutes. It's a nice facility. I've been in there, and we have other people that we know that have stayed in there, but it really came down to location. They did a virtual tour and then my brother and I were in there last week. It's an older building, but it's been redone and it was immaculate. The painting was fresh and the carpets were squeaky clean. It looked brand new. The person that we interacted with was outstanding, and we met a couple of other people as well. I've been going back and forth with that staff by email, and she's been outstanding. My mom has a corner unit with two windows and another window in the bedroom. The residents can comingle, but they're still not having full group dinners and activities. You can visit outside, but not inside. My dad would have been assisted living within the same unit as my mom in the memory care unit. They have independent living and a number of buildings built like elementary schools relative to a high school. It's a pretty big campus, but they're creating a sense of smallness by having fewer people per building. The number of residents in Sandalwood is only 40. Rather than having 200 people all in one building, they have five buildings with 40 people.

We've registered for a two-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath villa which is detached from the main lodge. It has a laundry facility within the unit which we really liked, all utilities are paid, and there's extra storage space. We're going into independent living. The staff seemed very friendly and competent. We experienced a luncheon and the food service seems to be good.

We visited American House Jenison, which is a smaller community. The staff members were very helpful, and they recommended we try another community, which is where my mom ended up going. The woman that interviewed us was superb. It's just that the rooms were smaller than what we had hoped. It was a very positive community all around.

We moved into American House. It is not perfect, but people are in our age range, and we get fed every day at noon. We have enough room. We do morning walks, have crafts, and play cards. Dinner is social time, too, and they serve the meals in the middle of the day. They have a beauty shop and a shuttle bus. The staff is outstanding.

We liked American House well enough. It felt decent, it was clean, and the staff was nice. They had a few residents that my parents were able to speak to, and they seemed really nice. It’s just not what we need right now. I think it was a decent home, and a place I would be comfortable.

My parents put their name in at American House Jenison. The whole facility was very beautiful, especially the dining room, and all of their amenities were in a location that’s extremely convenient, not only for my husband’s parents but for family members to visit. It’s in a really good, central location. The staff was great. The person in admissions, who gave us the tour, was obviously very proud of the facility and did a really good job of letting the facility speak for itself. She wasn’t high-pressure or anything like that, but she was thorough in showing us what they had to offer. They have a billiards room, a library, a movie theater, a game room, and all kinds of walking trails outside. They exceeded our expectations.

I like everything about American House. It’s fairly new, beautifully decorated, and very well-kept. I really like the option; it was month to month, you did not have to buy-in, and there wasn’t a lease contract. The lady gave us the tour, and we were in the dining hall a little bit. It was nice. We didn’t meet any residents or anything, but it seemed nice. If you could get a main floor unit it was really because you had an exterior door. That was really a nice option. The unit that they happen to show us was up at on the third floor at the end of the hall so that was probably our biggest concern with my mom, because the dining hall was on the main floor. They showed us the pool room. There was something different every day. We have been on the waiting list for one year, and they told us it would be another year or more.

The staff at American House is phenomenal. Everything has been great; I have no complaints. I’ve got a one bedroom apartment, it’s got a bay window, it’s very bright, and it’s so nice having the room to move around in. They have crafts, card games, some stretching exercise, and a weekly or biweekly trip. The food is excellent, and there are no problems there. We have two full time people during the day and one during the night; the security is fine.

I liked American House Jenison right away. It's all on one floor. It's not elaborate, but it's clean and nice. The people are nice. Where my mom is, there are little houses. There are 20 to a house, and it's bright and cheery. The people are nice. They keep them occupied, and I don't have any complaints. The floor plan is nice. You walk in, and to your right is the kitchen/dining room, and down the one hall is where they get their hair done. They also have a whirlpool bath. The rooms go off in different directions, and they are nicely sized. I really can't say anything bad about it. The food is good. They have dominos every night and bingo. They go on bus rides on Monday and Friday, Thursday is hair day, and they get their nails done. They have a musical therapist that comes in.
