Brenda the manager is the heart and soul of Charlevoix American House. Her staff is exceptional, very kind and helpful. They all meet the needs of their clients and go out of their way to insure everyone is cared for like their family would. The rooms are quite spacious and clean, they have many activities and stimulating presentation. With the Covid pandemic, they meet the CDC standard of care and they very concern of the health and safety of their clients. Our Mother was well taken care of and we as her family thank everyone there.

I toured American House Charlevoix. They have very nice staff members, and they seemed to be very in tune with the needs of their people. They were actually refurbishing the room that I saw because somebody had just left it, but they have very nice rooms. It's a little small for me. However, for somebody who does not want to do a whole lot of care or whatever and try to keep up, it's not a bad-sized room. It had a kitchenette, too. I was able to view the common dining area. They have very good food, and it's very well kept up and clean. They have very nice grounds. They're well-kept. From the front side, you don't have much of a view, but from the back side you've got this nice open field, and you'll see deer and other wild animals running through. They have game nights and different things like that. They have activities to keep them busy.

We toured American House Charlevoix. It was very pleasant and clean. The staff was very friendly. I had a meal there, and it was very good. The residents played bingo and watched movies. The rooms looked excellent. They were clean, and you can bring your own furniture in. They were attentive, and the management was concerned and very facilitating.

We have chosen American House Charlevoix. It's very good. The staff was very accommodating. They would do everything and bend over backwards for you. The rooms were apartment type. There are exercises, theater, arts and crafts, and choir church. They have all different kinds of stuff. The staff members were wonderful. The rooms are not as good as I would like, but they're OK.

My mom has been in the American House, and she is in the assisted living with memory care services. Our experience has been very good. The food is good too. They have ongoing activities every day, but because of COVID they've been slowed down. They have bingo, painting, little jury trials, movies, campfires in the summer, and quite a few different things. I don't have any complaints, and neither does my mother, and she usually complains about everything.

I'm going to move into the American House Charlevoix in March. I was very impressed with the director. She was very polite, very friendly, and just very comfortable. I haven't seen many of the staff. I had to go on a Sunday; it was kind of a low-staff day, but I met the nurses, the director, and a few other people. It's very nice, very easy to get around, and it had a nice wooded area behind it. You have a much richer apartment, a guarantee of it for life, and they will take care of you along the whole way. It's a quieter location, but it's near Petoskey, so if you need to see doctors and stuff, it's easy to get to.

You need to know: 1. The staff is well trained, friendly and chooses to work with the senior community because they love it! Prior to the CDC regulations, American House provided many opportunities for residents to socialize and interact with other seniors. Every holiday and every birthday is celebrated. And families are encouraged to celebrate with their loved ones! The parties are FUN! 2. During this pandemic isolation, American House trimmed-down their staff in order to minimize possible exposure of residents to the Corona Virus. Consequently, the staff works over-time hours, and yet they are cheerful and kind and patient with the residents! 3. AdvisaCare nurses are available 24 hours a day. They have assisted me to care for my mother by suggesting equipment such as bed rails, toilet extentions, wheelchairs/ walkers and electrical alarm, which alerts staff to check on the resident. 4. If needed, American House staff can connect you with Hospice Care, which is covered by Medicare, to assist with personal care, spiritual care, or private nuring care. I have found that American makes it possible for me to assist with my mother's care, by helping me carry the stress. 5. Rooms are clean, spacious, comfortable and close to the dining room.

Brenda was so friendly and accommodating to all of our family but especially to my aunt Jean. She went the extra mile for me when she invited all 7 of my family to stay for dinner, now that was nice enough but I'm not a fan of pot roast that was being served so she Offered to made me my own chef salad even though they were having a big party coming the same night with many people. I found everyone there so friendly and helpful I want to live there in the future.😊

We looked at American House Charlevoix. The place was very nice and extremely clean with well-kept grounds. The lady that took us around was very nice. My mother-in-law loved it. They had music during lunch. We saw a room that did not have a kitchen in it, which was what we wanted. That was perfect. It was big with big windows that looked down on the grounds. We had lunch there, and the food was good.

American House was very nice, the people were very nice and seemed very kind, but they were a little older than we are. It is not the place for us. The dining room was set up well, and the serving people were very nice. The rooms were adequately sized. The grounds were also nice, and you could walk from there to downtown Charlevoix, so the location was good. The food was good. There wasn't anything wrong with it at all. We're not ready for that age group yet. It was very nice and very clean.

Thank you so much for your kind review. We’re glad you chose to visit our Charlevoix location in your search for senior living options. Although this particular American House community may not best fit your need at the present, we do have other locations throughout Southeast Michigan which may be more suitable for you. If you’re at all interested in looking outside of the Charlevoix area, I’d be more than happy to arrange a tour. To see a complete list of locations, visit americanhouse.com. American House was very large and clean. They did not have sufficient garage facilities for all of the independent-livers’ automobiles. There seemed to be no real sense of community. The individual apartments were quite small. Common areas were not being utilized in any great degree by the residents there. They had different things there -- like exercise rooms and card playing areas -- but the folks weren’t around; they were all in hiding. I did look at the menus, and the menus seemed to be adequate. I did not find any fault with the occurrence of the dining facilities or the published menus. What I saw as grounds were parking lot and building, nothing that would invite people to go outside and stroll in the garden or engage in outdoor activities. It did not look like they invited the people to go outside and enjoy themselves.

Thank you for your feedback! American House Senior Living Communities prides itself on providing residents with a strong sense of community, in a home-like setting. It’s unfortunate that you weren’t able to see or feel this ‘sense of home’; therefore, I invite you to stop by again and join us during one of the many activities offered by the life enrichment director. We hope to see you again soon!
Sincerely, Cindy McCort, Executive Director 231-547-2599
