Lafayette County has a little over 100,000 residents, including a senior community that makes up about 12 percent of the population. According to data published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a little less than 10 percent of seniors in this county who rely on Medicare have Alzheimer's disease or dementia. Â
In Lafayette County, as in all of the state, memory care services are provided within licensed assisted living facilities that have separate Alzheimer’s disease/dementia care units. These facilities are required to meet special requirements regarding staffing, training and facility features. The county has two memory care facilities, both of which are in the city of Oxford.
