My dad moved into Orchard Valley at Wilbraham a week ago. It is a wonderful facility. It is absolutely beautiful and safe. His room looks very nice, and the staff has been very accommodating. They're doing arts, crafts, puzzles, and games, and they watch TV. They have a courtyard that they can walk freely in and out of that is fenced in, and my dad loves to do that. It gives him the feeling that he's independent again. My dad gets up to eat 3 times a day and he sits in the dining room, which he's never done before.

I didn't have any negatives with Orchard Valley at Wilbraham. I liked Orchard Valley. It's a very small senior community. It seems like the staff and the residents know one another very well. There's a nice sense of community there. It's very clean. It has a very calm atmosphere. The facility is very neat, clean, and very well-kept. It's very intimate, and it's very small, so you get a nice community feel. Their activities were posted, and they had a lot of different activities going on all day long. They're wonderful options. I spoke with the director of nursing who is just wonderful and very helpful. I saw a lot of the residents in both the memory care and the assisted living, and they're all very cheerful and friendly. They seemed very happy and very content. They're doing a lot of renovations right now. They're undergoing some painting and they're replacing carpeting. It's evident that the work is underway. So I probably didn't see it in the best condition, but the work is in progress. And what I saw was very clean, and it's going to be lovely when it's updated. It's very well laid out.

Orchard Valley at Wilbraham was very nice, well cared for, and clean. The room that I toured was adequate. The staff was informative and patient. The activities were adequate and based on the functional abilities of the individuals. They had movies and memory games.

Orchard Valley at Wilbraham was fabulous. All of the staff members were wonderful. Stephanie was the one that I dealt with, and she couldn't have been any more attentive or helpful. The room that my cousin was going to go into was way more than we expected. It was really like a two-room suite, it was delightful. My cousin was going into a respite room, and then if that worked out and she decided to stay, then she would bring her own things in. We were thrilled that they offered that kind of situation because everything was happening so fast here that we needed to move quickly. So, going into a respite room rather than thinking about having to outfit it with all of my cousin's own furniture made it a lot easier. We were really sad that it didn't end up happening, but they couldn't have been any more helpful.

I liked the whole atmosphere of Orchard Valley at Wilbraham. I was greeted well. I went in there before my time was supposed to be and they took good care of me and explained everything to me. The people were very, very pleasant. The room was a little bit small, but doable. The place was very clean. They had a courtyard outside and a gym inside. Everything you want, they got it there.

My brother moved into the Orchard Valley at Wilbraham two weeks ago. The place is very, very nice, and he was welcomed very much when he went there by other people, not only the staff but also the people living there. He is finding it tough to adjust to it because he just wants to be home, but outside of that, there are no complaints at all. Everything is fine. His room is very neat, and they're on top of it, taking care of it as far as cleaning and making sure everything is put away. It's a nice little apartment, it's a bedroom and living room area, very nice. I think the dining area is nice. They have a choice to eat what they want for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they have a menu, plus they have specials every day. So he has no complaints at all about the food. There's an activity person. I talked to her and she says that they do quite a few things for the people, and she says we'll keep them busy if he wants to be busy. It's up to him. He's on the second floor, there's a couple of decks where he can go outside, sit on the decks if it's nice out, or you can go outside and walk around. It's not close to the road, there's no noise. It's very quiet. They've been very polite, very courteous to my brother and whatever he wants, they're there for him. I especially talked to the head nurse there. She talked to him a couple of times when he was having problems because he doesn't want to be there, he wants to be home. She came and talked to him, she said, we'll continue doing that.

I liked the Orchard Valley at Wilbraham. The person I interviewed took the time to go through some of the apartments with me. He also took the time to sit down with me, go over different options for my parents, and go over the programs and the things they would do for my parents. I thought they were very thorough in what they went over and also very thorough in explaining the money situation and what it would cost my parents. Assisted living is what I went to see, but I also asked about memory care because that's one of the things that I may have to do in the future with my mom. The assisted living was fine. I had no issues with it whatsoever. It was more like an apartment for them, like a condo-living. I think my parents would be happy with that. The staff was very, very knowledgeable. I asked a lot of questions and he answered them. I asked him about the money situation and he was very open about it and about what it would cost and what the routine would be. They're really good and the person was good. I was impressed with him. Everything I saw during the tour was perfect. The place looked good.

My mother is at Orchard Valley at Wilbraham. It is very nice, and the community itself is beautiful. The location is great. It's very close to where I live, so I am able to visit her very often. She is in the memory care, and it is not crowded. The staff seems very caring too. They know what they're doing, and they are very professional. Her room is very spacious. They have a recreation room. I saw them around a table and doing some sort of decorations or coloring activities. The place is very clean and tidy. It is definitely worth the money.

Orchard Valley at Wilbraham is the only community that could really take care of all of my mother's needs. They have very nice and very helpful staff. The facility is not new, but it's all in great shape, and everything seemed fine. I like where it's located because it's close to where my brother lives, who is also in Wilbraham, and to me. The building has a nice structure. When you go in, everything is separated. They got enough activities to do to keep them all busy. They have an activity room and an outside courtyard too. Of all the other places we looked at, the prices were quite a bit lower, but they didn't do all the services that my mom needed to have. That was the hardest point, but I guess you get the value of the money you're paying with these kinds of places.

Orchard Valley at Wilbraham was too expensive. It didn't thrill me, and I didn't like the rooms. The rooms and dining area were small but looked OK. it didn't offer anything different. The people were fine, and the staff was OK.

The Orchard Valley at Wilbraham was certainly convenient being on the Boston Road, yet it was private and quiet because it was back from the road, which was a nice thing. The girl who took me around was very accommodating, spent a lot of time with me, and explained everything. The menu was outstanding and was quite gourmet. The place was very clean.

I felt pretty good about Orchard Valley at Wilbraham, but the location for us didn't feel right. It was good and very clean, but I wasn't impressed with the memory unit because the residents were so old, curled up in little chairs, inactive and a lot of them were around the TV. They said it's not like that all the time, but they're kind of embarrassed by it. It just didn't feel alive enough for me. The atmosphere is OK, but I didn't feel the warmth and connection from the staff to the people.

I visited Orchard Valley, and I liked it very much. If my mom would have gone into assisted living, I would have probably placed her there. They have a very clean facility, and it was well staffed. They have a nice outdoor garden area which I thought would be very helpful for my mother who likes to be outdoors. They have a variety of activities, everything from trips to all sorts of stuffs. The dining area was setup nice and clean. I don't know how good the food was, but it seemed like they have an adequate facility. The security was very good. You can't get in because there were alarm,s and there were doors that would go off if the alarm was tripped. The rooms and apartments were clean and spacious. I didn't smell anything foul over there. In some places you go, it smelled foul like urine, but I did not smell that there which is good.

Orchard Valley at Wilbraham is very, very nice. My mother has got her own room, her own furniture; it is beautiful. They are excellent. They actually bring her coffee in the morning, sometimes twice. She keeps her door open, so that the kids walking around all the time go in to check on her. I know she visited a friend for a week; she went off her meds, so she wasn't feeling very well; I called the front desk and I said, "Would you keep an eye on Helen?" And, they said, "Oh yeah!" So, I called my mom and she said, "Yeah I know, they have already been up here fifteen times", so I knew that they were checking on her. When I call and can't get a hold of my mom, they'll go and find her, and tell her to call me. She eats what she wants, and if she doesn't feel like going down, she won't go. She plays Bingo and if she doesn't go, they'll come and get her; they'll make sure she gets down there. They take them shopping; they take them to the grocery store; they take them to their doctor's visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays; she has her three meals a day and, like I said, the kids bring her coffee every morning and because she doesn't want to go down for breakfast. She makes her own little things in her own little kitchen. The way it is set up is actually gorgeous inside and out.

I feel that it is overly priced, it smells like urine in a few of the halls, you pay for extra service and they do not provide it and most of all they will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to sign the lease. For the money spent you are better off to have 24 hour live in care.
Provider Response
We are very sorry for the experiences you've had at Orchard Valley at Wilbraham. Your opinion, as well as the quality of care the residents receive, is extremely important to us. Although we employ the strictest standards of sanitation and have individualized programs geared toward managing resident continence, occasionally an assisted living community is going to experience an accident or two. Smell, as well as sight, sound, and taste are all important factors when delivering quality care. Please bring any concerns immediately and directly to the Executive Director so that they may be addressed.
In addition to the five senses, we also feel that our Programming (which includes social, spiritual, purposeful, and intellectual activities) is extremely vital to the overall well-being of our residents; something that homecare does not provide.
Again, we are sorry for any negative experiences you had. Please come back and visit us again, as we strive to make improvements a part of our daily commitment to the residents.
