My mother recently passed away at Paine Estate in a room that shortly thereafter was deemed uninhabitable by the local Board of Health. Then, six days AFTER she passed away Paine Estate had the audacity to withdraw more than $7000 from her bank account without authorization. The Acting Executive Director justified raiding the account by saying that they were entitled to collect rent, fees, and expenses for a month after each Resident's death (in effect, it appears, they levy their own death tax)! I am not sure how it's possible to charge a dead person for a room, meals, services, etc. that they obviously cannot utilize. It's too late for us, but please take such conditions and behavior into account when you are considering where your loved ones should live.

When cleaning out my MIL's room, we found incredible amounts of mold. It was on the walls, numerous pieces of furniture, the window blinds, her suitcase on the top shelf of the closet, items inside a drawer of her bedside table, and the air vents. We had to dispose of everything because nothing was salvageable. Months before while they were doing construction, we arrived to find an industrial fan on the floor and the carpeting absolutely soaked. At no point were we told by The Residence at Paine Estates that there was water in her room. The Wayland Board of Health is now involved and all information is part of the public record. DO NOT choose to live there until you read the reports.

I loved everything about them; the staff was very warm, caring, and aware of the residents. I really liked the space provided, I was impressed with the menu, and they had great activities. I only have positive things about it.

They have assisted living and a new memory impairment unit. I toured it recently and know some of the staff there. It's fairly isolated--well outside of Boston in what's called Metro West--and it can be tough to get there without a car. The facility is very attractive. It was built out of an old mansion in a woodsy, picturesque area. Most of the rooms are private, but they do have a few large shared rooms. The direct care staff is very high quality--very New England. The dementia unit was just opened a few months ago, and they brought in a skilled program director to run it. The food is similarly excellent, and they cater to individual tastes. Activities are also good--varied and designed to cater to the educated resident population.
