I went to The Residence at Whitcomb House. It's assisted living, but it has that nursing home feel. It is more economical because being a part of programs that the person has like Social Security and stuff, is very helpful. They take PACE, so that's one thing. If someone has MassHealth or whatever, that's a helpful program. Other than that, it is a big facility. But we found out that my father-in-law needed memory care, and because it is such a maze, he would have gotten lost in there. The rooms are small. There's a lot of activities. They have an activity room and a computer room for people who are still into computers. They recognize the veterans, too. They have a whole veteran wall, which I thought was pretty cool. Some of the individuals that I worked with were very informative and very nice. Another plus about them is they want people to get out of their rooms. The goal is to get them downstairs to socialize and have some exercise. It's a big community, but they know everyone's needs, so that's pretty cool. I saw their cafeteria and that looks pretty good. They have a straight menu, but if some people like to get something else, they have another type of menu for them to choose from. The place is pretty clean. It's self-sufficient.

The staff at The Residence at Whitcomb House were very knowledgeable and very friendly. They did their job and they introduced us to some of the people and they were very nice. The facilities were very clean. They had places for them to walk and it seemed a very pleasant place.

It felt like a home that I would live in myself. They have a kitchen on every floor of the building and a hometown type dining room on the first floor. There's no alcohol and no smoking, which I approve of. The person who accommodated us during the tour was phenomenal. I tried the food and I also looked at six different rooms. The food was nutritious and good tasting. I'm a cook by trade, so I would know if it was good or not; it was excellent. The facility is spotless. Their rooms were quaint little rooms. They're not as big as the one she's in, but you can just put a single bed there instead of a queen. It's very accommodating. There's a single bathroom in every room that I looked at, which is unheard of in most places. The convenience of having her own bathroom was phenomenal. I couldn't say enough good things about the place.

The tour was great. The staff was awesome and the person who toured us was really great. The rooms were nice and were good size. They were roomy. We had the option of putting together two separate rooms to make one large room, which was a great option. They are accommodating in that aspect. The dining area was a good size, and it smelled good. Based on their activity list, they have a lot to offer for activities, like exercise programs (which was great). I like the idea that they celebrate all holidays.

I liked the location and the staff seemed to be friendly. They had different clubs and activities for their seniors. They served three meals a day and offered transportation for doctors' appointments. There were a lot of rooms that were stuffed with things for extra storage.
