My mother is in Brookdale Olney. They have a welcome committee before you move in to just sit down and talk to you about what you and your family members are going to get, talk to the chef, talk to the maintenance person, talk to the nurse, and talk to the finance people. This meeting is about two hours long. You get to ask questions, anything that you need, what they offer, what they won't offer. The rent doesn't change, but the level of care may change, which means that your overall cost may increase. I love Brookdale so far. The renovation was exceptional. It was so bright and airy. The rooms are nice and clean. They have a kitchenette with a refrigerator and a kitchen counter with things to store. The care providers are so caring and loving. You have activities 24/7 and many of the residents who live there were running around trying to get to their next activity. They are busy doing something. It gives you almost 24/7 food. If you are hungry at night, all you had to do is contact somebody. The activities are constant. There is not a day that there is not at least two to three activities that are going on, and that's Saturday and Sunday as well. They have arts and crafts, games, and bingo all the time. They have speakers come in and they have conversations. It doesn't necessarily have to be politics. It may be a view on how you feel about the schools today or something of that sort. They may have a person come in to talk about what is happening with senior citizens. They have musical activities where they have someone come in and perform, but they get the residents involved in the singing. They have different-sized rooms. The medium room is a full bedroom. You can get a full size or a queen size in that room, and you can have a dresser and a chair. It has the kitchenette, which is a counterspace with a small refrigerator then you have the vanity area in the bathroom. That's one that I would have had my mother purchase, but she insisted on separation, which is a larger room where it has a sitting area that has a wall divider from the bedroom itself. She has a queen size bed and we'll put a nightstand and a dresser in there. She still has the kitchenette. She has the vanity and the bathroom accessibility where the vanity is outside, but the toilet and the shower are behind the door. She has a living area, which is very spacious. We're going to put a small loveseat there and her reclining chair and a television. It's bright. They have hardwood floors, and most of it, except for the bedroom has the carpeting. The bathrooms are very spacious. You can step into the shower. My mother was not even assessed in memory care at Brookdale. She has a mild case of dementia. She forgets things, but she is not in memory care. They listen to her and let her talk. She gets a newspaper. The chef laid out a menu and wanted to know what mom likes, what she doesn't like, and what she's allergic to. I haven't really tasted the food, but just the cordial reception of really listening and wanting to make sure that they are happy with the food that they eat, it made me feel comfortable. It's right on the perimeter of Olney community and they are three-tenths of a mile away from the Montgomery General Hospital and about the same from the closest shopping center that has all kinds of shops and the grocery store. The CVS is there, Walgreens and different restaurants. It's so convenient to all of the different areas. I really like it. They have a movie room, an exercise area, a salon, and an activity room. They have a music area where they have a piano. They have a private dining hall if you have celebration for your family. This dining area is beautiful. They have several tables that are covered with white linen and beautiful chairs. It's a beautiful ambiance. They treat you as though you're in a restaurant. They come to your table and take your order. They have a room that will host about 15 people or more for special events. The kitchen is right outside of the dining area, so you see people going in and coming out with whatever order you've made. It has another casual eating area set up like a restaurant with chairs and tables. This is more or less where they fix smoothies, sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, things like that. Cleanliness is really good. I just talked to the maintenance guy yesterday. You can call him at any time. Once everything is in and things are painted, they still do a thorough cleaning. It's almost like sanitizing the room. The room is $6000 plus the level of care, which is like $1400, so it's $7000 cheaper than what I'm paying at the other place.

My mom will move into Brookdale Olney. There are lots of different, nice seating areas. The head nurse was great. There have been people there for years and years and years, especially the head nurse. The person who runs the place, the executive director, is just fabulous, like a bright light. She was the best of all the medical directors of the place. She makes you feel welcome at home, and like you're in the right place. They recently have redone the dining room, which is right downstairs. I don't know how the food is. I asked the residents. They said it was good. I spoke to a lot of residents there. That was the other thing. The ones I talked to seemed happy. It just was a really nice place. The salesman did a great job. Very transparent. You can really talk to him. I would recommend this place very highly. They have lots of activities. It just felt like a warm, good place to be.

I really like Brookdale Olney. It was my second choice. They were definitely experienced. I really liked James who toured me around. He was warm and very informative and spent a lot of time with me, which I appreciated. I really liked the activities director. He was working with some of the residents when I was there, and he was great. He had a lot of energy and a good sense of humor. I like the facility because it's kind of a wooded setting with some nice outdoor space. The rooms were spacious. I liked it a lot, it was just a little far.

We have chosen Brookdale Olney for my dad. I would say it's kind of midsize. It's not too big, so it allows for a little more observation of what's going on with the residents. They have nice-sized rooms. There's a shared bathroom with 2 separate bedrooms, at least that's the only one I've had the opportunity to see. They have a courtyard or I would call it a deck, and it's a nice outdoor area. The staff is kind and very willing to talk to the family. They have activities on memory care, and that's what I wanted because I want my dad involved. And the gentleman that runs them, Ray, is very good. They do karaoke, little games, and arts and crafts.

We toured Brookdale Olney. It was very nice. The units were very nice. They were kept up very well, and they were very clean. They've been taken good care of and they weren't looking old or anything, so they were good.

Brookdale Olney is a very beautiful facility. It's very clean. I have a pretty keen nose and I didn't smell anything. The staff was very welcoming. The dining area is on the main level and they have menus. They have it set up for like a fine dining experience for the seniors and I thought that was nice. They get to choose from a menu. I met the activities director. He was actually at the front desk when I arrived, but I didn't know who he was at the time. He does arts and crafts. He helps them with the movies. He helps them with their worship experience no matter what faith they are. He can help them set up if there's something they want to watch for their spiritual enrichment. They have barbecues. They have a movie night and a popcorn machine for them. On Sunday, he makes them desserts. The chef does the barbecuing and stuff like that. I was very impressed. They had a list of activities. They keep them busy. I was very impressed. The young woman who did the tour was excellent. She was really good. She was a former caregiver herself. She did well at listening to me and what my mom's needs were.

I've toured Brookdale Olney, it's beautiful. I didn't think it needed to be, but they're redoing the carpets, the chairs, the tables, and everything. They showed me the colors that they were going to use and the fabrics and everything, so I was impressed. The room that I saw was big enough. I went and looked at two, I saw a companion suite with one occupant and it looked big enough for everything that my husband would want. They share one bathroom. I was impressed with everyone that was there, James was extremely full of information and very personable. When we stepped off the memory care floor, there was the psychiatrist and personal care nurse who did the evaluation. So I spoke with them for a while too, and I got very interesting information, so that was good. They had just finished eating, and the staff showed me the dining area for both memory care and assisted living. They had a separate dining area for memory care up on the top floor. They had tables and chairs, it was a little cafeteria-style place, and they had a person that serves the food. The menu looks reasonable, they said they have three or four snacks a day and they could get something to eat any time during the day, so that was nice. They also said that he could keep a refrigerator and a microwave in his room.

I've decided to keep my wife at Brookdale Olney. As far as I can tell, the staff is doing a good job of keeping her safe and providing for her needs. The food is good. It tends to be a little repetitive after you've been there for a while. But overall, it's good. They have activities every day. They have an activity director who does things with the residents, some of which my wife takes part in and some she doesn't. The facilities are good. They take care of them. They keep them up. They just recently did a lot of painting inside. And as far as I can tell, they do a good job of maintaining their facilities.

We visited Brookdale Olney, the residence was absolutely beautiful, welcoming, and warm. We met the activities director, he had so much energy and you could tell that the residents enjoyed participating in different activities with him. He was awesome. The rooms were a little bit smaller than what we had wanted, but they seemed very accommodating in terms of being able to modify a closet or change things to suit what the resident needs. This place is our second choice. The staff also seemed great.

Brookdale Olney was in business for a while. More than ten years, I believe, but they were not that helpful. They just simply didn't know enough. One of them was very salesy. The grounds were great though. They were in the process of giving the facility an update. The assisted living part was just absolutely fabulous, but when we went up to the memory care unit, it smelled like urine.

Brookdale Olney was an attractive unit, well-staffed and well-organized. We were able to tour assisted living and it was very lovely. It looked like you were in a high-end hotel. They had multiple floor plans available. They had very knowledgeable staff that talked about what would work best and answered a lot of questions about our mother. It was a convenient location for hospitals, stores, and shopping. It had a very good entry price too. They brought us dessert each day that we came because we didn't come during the lunch hour. We got to look at their menu and we met the chef and the director of activities. We met the director of memory care as well. They wanted us to meet just in case my mom would need memory care at some point.

I was able to visit Brookdale Olney and I really liked it. I liked that the people and the patients seemed very nice. They had things to do in there and they seemed very active. We had lunch and it seemed nice. The food looked good. The people who helped us were very nice too, they even introduced us to the nurses. I thought the rooms were nice, clean, and a good space. The facility looked really good, the location was also good. Structurally, it just seemed like a nice place. They had their activities posted on the wall, what they were doing every day, like a calendar.

We visited Brookdale Olney and it was very good. I had already visited another one that I liked better than this, but they gave a very nice tour, and the lady was very nice. I spoke to the PT people there and a nurse besides the lady giving us the tour. It was very well done. The lady showed us everything and answered all our questions. The rooms were very nice. She showed us a studio and a one-bedroom, and both were very nice. My mom would need something like that.

Brookdale Olney did a wonderful job with my husband. I was very pleased with them. They offered meals, laundry, and cleaning. They had a dining room, activity rooms, a library, and therapy. I only met the lady who introduced me to everything that was going on, and she was a lovely person and kept in touch with me every day. The nurse also called me. My short experience with them was good. The facility was all very nice, pretty, fresh, and clean.

Brookdale Olney was the nicest place and it had many amenities. However, I don't know if my mom is going to partake in all of the amenities. It has beautiful grounds, a gated courtyard, and an area that overlooks the lot. On the third level there was another outside area, too. They also have a theater. The amenities were above and beyond. The staff member was good. He was the wellness director. They also offer onsite occupational therapy and physical therapy. He was very pleasant. I enjoyed him. We saw four different floor plans. The last one was way too big. It was a two-bedroom with a double sink and a separate eating area. They had the nicest kitchenettes, and full-size refrigerators. It had everything, which was really nice.

Brookdale Olney was a very nice campus. The people seemed very professional. It was convenient compated to where my mother lives. It just seemed like an overall good and clean place, and the people were very nice. Everything seemed fit for us. The apartments were not huge, but were a good size. They have different sizes. The food was pretty good. There were open spaces and there were no smells.

My mother-in-law is at Brookdale Olney. She has a lot of good things to say about it. It is small but newer, nice, clean, and well run. I like the staff who do a fantastic job. They have a lot of activities for the residents.

My mother decided to go to Solana on a respite-basis to see if she likes it. She likes it very much; so yesterday I went over to sign the contract for her to be a permanent resident. I feel that the care is very much above average. I felt that the CNA’s are well-trained, and that they truly try to win their mission statement, and that is by treating the residents first. The food is good, and the chef there takes his job very seriously. So the whole experience has been very positive. The only thing that I notice is that the cost is high. I don’t know if that is something you can improve on and keep the quality where it is. I looked at places that were less expensive, but the quality of care just wasn’t the same. So as of yet, I have not seen any areas that they can improve on.

I have been very happy with my mother's stay here over the past two years. Every single staff member is friendly and is genuinely interested in my mother's wellbeing. I looked at many places before moving mom and Solana is the most beautiful and well appointed of the other options. They also offer many more food choices than other places. The other places I went only offered two items for lunch or dinner. They always have special events for holidays and very good entertainers. The care staff are always nice to mom and she likes them very much. I always say that people post these reviews when they are extremely happy or dissatisfied and to take it with a grain of salt. You can never please everyone, but I feel that the staff at Solana try their best. We are one of the many happy families and plan to be for years to come!

We visited Solana at Olney and we really liked it. They were our top place. They're really good. It's just the price was a little more than what my grandmother could afford. They only had assisted living there. There were only two elevators, but it's only two floors that we were mostly on, because the third floor was the memory care center. We didn't really go up there, so it's really quick to get around. It had really nice scenery. The shared room, which was what she's going to be moving into, was a little small. The food was really good and good portion size for older people.

We moved mom into The Solana Olney. The place is modern, and the apartments are what you need as an apartment rather than just a room. It's very bright and didn’t remind me of a nursing home. They have a movie theater upstairs and bingo downstairs. They also have massage people come in once a week for hand massages. They also play bridge and go on excursions. They have different kinds of activities.

The Solana Olney seemed really nice, and I thought about keeping her in there. It had everything but a bit on the price. The appearance was clean, and the people were friendly. It was not that old of a facility; it was still in good shape. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

My mom recently moved into the Clare Bridge (Memory Care) community at Solana Olney and the facility has exceed our expectations. Mom had lived at a nearby facility for several years. Her needs changed and they could no longer meet them. Moves are difficult but my mom loves her new home! I have had dealings with many facilities in the DC metro area and Clare Bridge at Solana excels in several areas. First, the community is impeccably clean, bright, and inviting. There are many high quality activities, events, and interactive stations that blow away other communities. I visit several times a week and am always greeted and invited to stay. This is my mom's home and she loves to have us visit. The place is so beautiful you just want to! Drs. visit my mom there and medication changes and therapies are all initiated quickly. Secondly, the staff is very interested in learning about my mom, her likes and preferences. Pictures are hung, favorite foods are cooked, and her questions are answered quickly. Also, safety and security are of utmost importance without being intrusive or making my mom feel "locked in." Clare Bridge is nothing like that! I can finally sleep at night knowing my mom is safe and not wandering. Billing is clear and the fees are extremely reasonable for the services provided. If you have a loved one with memory or dementia related illness, please consider Clare Bridge at Solana Olney. We are very happy that mom has found her home there!

I have been nothing but happy since my mother moved to Solana. I was surprised to read some of the other comments. I guess you only leave reviews when you're extremely happy or not so happy! You definitely can't please everyone, but I believe the staff try very hard. The sales manager was very up front with me about the fact that a new management team was brought in to improve things. They obviously had an uphill climb but have done a great job making necessary changes. The staff are very friendly, always willing to help. I would tell others who are looking that the grass isn't always greener the more places you look. Anytime I have asked a question, the staff are always willing to listen and do their best to meet my request or mom's request. The food is really good and I join mom for dinner occasionally. I feel comfortable with mom living at Solana and my grandchildren even enjoy visiting. No place is absolutely perfect, but people make the place. The people at Solana are kind and caring.

Lovely physical plant, pets accepted. Generally nice staff but poorly trained and supervised. Staffing levels seem low (poor) compared to similar facilities we subsequently looked at. The Solana appears to have accepted a higher acuity population than they are prepared to care for. Systems of care and quality oversight are virtually non-existent. Check out annual state survey reports (public record). If you only need low level assisted living, this may be the place, but if medical care or medication management is required, I'd absolutely choose someplace else unless/until a state inspection confirms that long-promised improvements are in place and effective. We moved our resident out after a year (care needs exceeded the facility's ability). Very corporate/for-profit-focused management company (Brookdale). Pricing is ala carte, and most residents (including us) found costs going up early and often. Brookdale is unable to provide detailed bills, so it's often unclear what services are being charged. Upon death of our family member 2 weeks after moving out, we received no condolence note from the facility, and an announcement to the community had his name completely mis-spelled. We've been receiving invoices for four months noting a credit of several hundred dollars, but despite multiple phone calls and emails, we're still waiting for reimbursement.
Provider Response
We deeply regret that we were unable to meet your expectations. Please be assured the well-being of our residents is our top priority. We want to thank you for your feedback and please know it will be reviewed and used to better serve our residents and their families in the future.

I went to Solana but my mom didn't like it. She wasn't really that blown away by this place. She didn't care for it. Nevertheless, Solana was gorgeous. They have nice food there. Also, their assisted living rooms were bigger than the assisted living rooms at the other facility. I saw their calendar of activities but I didn't think they had as much as the other facility. The facility was brand new, though. It was very pristine, very clean, and very pretty. We ate lunch there and it was nice.

Solana at Olney was modern, upscale, and very clean. The rooms were great as far as size and outfitting are concerned, and the prices seemed to be pretty much the same as everywhere else we've looked. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. The dining room was very nice, well appointed, and the table settings were very good. They had numerous activities that would cater to multiple ages. The overall environment was very good. We thought it would be a good, thriving environment for my wife's mother.

My grandmother has been there about a year now and has nothing but good things to say. Although this was a difficult decision, it has been the best decision for her wellbeing; both physically and emotionally. She now has regular companionship and has made friends. The staff and residents have exceeded my expectations in making her feel welcomed and "one of the family". As soon as you walk into The Solana Olney it just feels like home. We have found the staff to be the key to a warm, caring, healthy environment. They really answered all my questions and went out of their way to help with the transition from home to assisted living for my grandmother, and even for us kids. My grandmother’s current state of health gives her the opportunity to be with some people who still have mobility like her. The facility constantly offers projects and events for the residents. I am very pleased with all aspects of my grandmother’s care and have recommended the community to many of my friends with elderly family needing assisted living.

My father lived at The Solana Olney for almost a year before I relocated him to another assisted living in the area. The Solana Olney is beautiful. The apartments tend to be small. There are serious construction issues that you wouldn't expect. My father had no heat during his stay at The Solana. They are managed by a company called Brookdale. The only offer we received for no heat and air conditioning for a year was $500 for "inconvience". This didn't pay for the hospital stay my father needed for pneumonia. They boast their 4 star dining experience that is no more than institutional as best. I have seen hot dogs and fired catfish & slaw on a bun on their menu. Not what I'd consider 4 star. Their nurses are unresponsive to a residents needs. The head nurse never returns calls, is not available when you need to see her and doesn't seem to care when you are able to discuss a physicians recommendations or care changes to a residents needs. I experienced this as did several other families; they give you a price for apartment and another for care needs that you agree with and sign a contract. By the first bill (which is usually 60 days later) the care needs have increased without explaination and they continue to change without an explanation from the head nurse or her team or Brookdale's main office. I would cringe when I saw my fathers bill as I didn't know how much I would be expected to pay this month. I heard this complaint from many other families while we were there. The resident care is poor and evidenced by their last State inspection. Ask to see it. It's public record. My recommendation...it's beautiful but look elsewhere until they fix their problems.

I visited the Solana at Olney. There are a variety of room layouts for assisted living residents and dementia residents. The dementia patients are on the third floor. The place has about 80 units, feels cozy, has lots of natural light, and they have programming for residents during the day. They also offer long-term respite care. The things I particularly liked about the facility are that my parents, one with dementia, could share a 1 bedroom - which is actually 2 rooms, so could either be 2 bedrooms or a bedroom and sitting room, on the third floor, and then my dad could come downstairs to be more mentally challenged if he wanted to. There is also a deep discount for two living in one unit. I ate lunch there with a couple of residents, and they spoke highly of the place. Food was pretty good, and there was some choice at the restaurants (5 choices in assisted living and 3 in the dementia unit). The staff I have talked with are informative, helpful and caring.

Solana was a beautiful facility. It was also new. I like its location. It is in a very nice location. It is an easy access and near major roads. That was nice. It did have beautiful grounds. It was beautiful the way they got it in terms of landscape and everything. It was really nice. It was a little higher priced than what we were looking for but I can understand why they would do that because it was a brand new facility. I would recommend this place to others. Aside from assisted living, they also have dementia and Alzheimer's patients there. The staff was very nice to me when I went there. Regarding residents, they didn't have that very many people wandering around, so I couldn't talk to any of them but the ones that were there seemed to be very pleasant and nice.

Solana at Olney was lovely, new and very pretty. They had everybody there. They just had rooms in the second floor all the way in the back for memory care. But there was no way I would want my loved one to take the elevator to go up the second floor and all the way in the back like they had some disease. It did not make sense that somebody with dementia was going to use the elevator, I did not like it at all. I did not know what type of security they had other than going in/going out of the front door. I just did not feel like they paid special attention with the residents that had some form of dementia. I was not impressed with the person that took us around. They should have somebody better to represent them.

Solana was fine. We really liked this place. It was a beautiful facility. The staff and the amenities were really nice there. Their rooms were nice also but much smaller than where my uncle is now, but they did have very spacious bathrooms.

The living environment at Solana at Olney is beautiful. It looked like they also had some great activities for the residents, but I was underwhelmed with their rooms. They were very small and not a whole lot of options with regards to making it feel homey. It didn't look like a home rather than it looks like an efficiency room. The rooms were not warm and inviting. The feel that we all got when we went to look at it is that it encouraged people not to stay in their rooms. Theirs is not enough room to put your own personal belongings in there besides a bed.

I visited The Solana Olney for my mother and I really like that place. It was a very nice facility. It was new. Its location was only 2 miles away from my residence, so it was very close. I had lunch there and their food was good. They also offer different levels of care and that was one of the things that I like because their upper floor was a lockdown facility. You need a passkey for the elevator to get on and off. My mother is still functional but she is not remembering a lot, so if she ever progresses to the point where she starts to wander, she wouldn't be able to just leave this place. To me that was good because she would be in the same place but she would be more secure.
