I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We like Maine Veterans' Homes. It is clean, roomy, and fairly new. All the people that we met were very helpful and smiley. It did not seem like a sad place to go. The families are encouraged to visit. They have activities almost every day, like a little show or a movie, and outings. Different communities in the area offer free lunch in restaurants and bus the residents there. It is a wonderful place, and my uncle likes it there. We eat there once a week, and the food is very good. The staff is attentive, dependable, and try really hard to find answers if they don’t have them. They are glad to be at work and see their residents, and the residents are glad to see them. The place is clean and smells nice and is bright, and sunny.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I have concerns about the Alzheimer unit at this facility. My relative died from urosepsis after testing and treating of a urinary tract infection was not addressed in a timely manner. On several occasions had to contact an outside Doctor to get an infection taken care of , On discussing health concerns with the nurse manager and the NP who attended my relative resistance was met in regards to preventative care, testing and treating his urinary tract infections. They made comments to me such as :this is just a band aid measure, he is just going to keep getting infected, you are prolonging the inevitable, I wouldn't want to live this way. I felt like my relative was treated as a hospice patient because of his cognitive impairment although he wasn't at that stage yet. His primary CNA's were very good to him, very attentive and caring with the exception of one who was verbally nasty to him when he asked to go to the bathroom at lunch time. The facility is very clean, the food is pretty good for institution food, the facility does a great job at providing activities and entertainment for the residents.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I had a knee replacement and went to the Maine Veterans' Home in South Paris, Maine. I stayed for 3 weeks. I cannot express enough praise for the care that I received while there. The facility was extremely neat and clean, the care outstanding and the food excellent.

Not an "only child" but you would never know it1

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My dad is currently at the Maine Veterans Home. I feel very fortunate to have him there. The care is excellent. They are very patient, thorough and deliver high quality nursing care. He is in the "res" care unit but i would feel comfortable with any of the units. People who wish to work at this facility wait awhile until a position becomes available as it is the kind of place where people stay a long time. That tells me good things. It is extremely clean and inviting.
