I'm very pleased with Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. I feel really comfortable having my loved one there. They have activities every day in the morning and in the evenings, ice cream trucks come around, there are lots of one-on-one activities and group activities. They went to the local fair the other day. My partner is in a nice double room, which is all they have, although I would have preferred a single. Their food is institutional food, but it's really good, and they make their own dessert. Also, the place is beautiful. They have beautiful gardens and a really nice patio you can go and sit on.

I had two family members pass away at Maine Veterans Home, my dad recently and my aunt seven years ago. The staff went above and beyond to take care of them and make them welcomed and comfortable.Just like leaving your child with a stranger, It was just as hard to walk away leaving my frail and sick father by himself. He had family visit almost every day. There was never any sign of abuse or neglect when we were there.Today I actually went to a small memorial service they did for all the people that passed while there.(he's been gone a little over a month) The staff remembers the family members as well as the patients.
