My friend is at Lafourche Home For Aged & Infirm, and it is really nice and clean. It's an older facility, but run very nice. They have a rehab section, and I was there almost every week to visit her before COVID happened. They have remodeled it, so the halls are wider. They also have an activities director, different churches coming to do services, and they have groups that come in and do music. Their food was designed for every resident because they had certain diets for almost everybody. They're not as high in price either.

This facility is horrible. Sure they have a lot of activities, pretty Christmas decorations, if you're catholic they have consistent religious services and a nice chapel, and the place is pretty clean, but that is about all I can say in support of this facility. Not only are they understaffed but the staff they do have does not care about the overall well being and quality of life of their residents. They leave residents alone in their rooms because they don't want to get them up and ready for the day. They take ages to answer call lights even when it is emergent. If you tell a nurse directly that a resident needs something they say ok or just stare blankly at you because they do not care about a resident's need. I do not care if they are experiencing empathy fatigue, I am not expecting them to love my family like their own - I am expecting them to do their job. The residents are rarely given a proper shower and four people are expected to share one tiny bathroom that barely fits a wheelchair much less accommodates a walker when turning around. The community activities are not inclusive for all residents and its usually just bingo, music, or stringing beads. What about the residents with vision, cognitive, or mobility problems - are they not worthy of activities? Also don't get me started on getting your family member to those activities if they aren't completely independent in their mobility. Good luck getting assistance from staff in time to make it to the activity of the day they are lucky if they make it to the restroom on time. Awful, awful place that should only be used as a last resort and even then make sure it really is your only option. Worst decision ever.
