At Sage Oak Assisted Living and Memory Care of Lake Charles, the cleanliness and the amenities that they had to offer were really nice. Since they are newly built or whatever, there wasn't any staff, except for the director who gave us the tour of the facilities. But as far as the caretakers, I didn't see much activity going on with that part. They didn't open that up to let us meet with any of the caregivers there, so I was not enthused with that part. The only thing he showed us was the dining area and the sleeping quarters. He didn't take us on the other side. I don't know if it was due to the pandemic. I could see from the distance across the breezeway, the courtyard, that the nurses and the healthcare workers were working with patients across there. But he never took us across to see what it entailed, and the activities that they would do. We didn't get to see any of that. The only thing he gave us a tour of was the sleeping quarters and the dining area where they would be eating. I wasn't pleased with that part, because it was very claustrophobic. I got to see a couple of rooms and they were smaller than what my dad's in now. He would have his little bed and his bathroom. It was a little too compact. There were no appliances. They had a little courtyard area. It wasn't that big, but they did have one. I mean, the one that he showed us, it wasn't like a spacious courtyard.

I toured Sage Oak Assisted Living and Memory Care of Lake Charles. We did look at the memory care, it's good, and it's like a group home. The rooms are very, very small like I probably would have to borrow a twin bed. The only complaint I had was the room size. There was no place for privacy, if your family wants to come to visit, the open areas are completely open. She wouldn't have room to accommodate chairs for visitors and things like that. It's a nice facility, the ratio of caregivers to patients is very good. They have a chef preparing meals, and the cooking is interactive. I thought that it had a lot of good things about it. The common area is one big room. On one side, it's a kitchen with a very long counter, and on the other side, there's one TV. Everybody has to watch the same thing or whatever or go sit in that room, which is extremely tiny. She would have a twin-sized bed and her chair, and that would have been that. The staff was great. They were nice. The facility is good for some people, but my mother wasn't ready for that yet. There was no one in the building that we went in for memory care. It was a building they had just finished. They have 16 rooms in each building, so it's kind of like a group home. It was a fast and furious go-through, because we got a call at the same time, and we had to meet with the doctor at the hospital.

I went to Sage Oak Assisted Living and Memory Care of Lake Charles. I visited the memory care. It appeared to be brand new, so everything was like new. They had a chef, they had nice rooms. It is very clean and it appears to be a very nice place. The lady that showed me around was very knowledgeable. I saw them preparing food. I looked and talked to the chef. I thought the set-up was very pleasant. I saw people sitting there communicating with the counselors. They're just talking, they're watching television, and they're getting ready for dinner. The facility is brand new and very clean. All the rooms were clean, and the floors looked clean. The appearance was very nice. The kitchen was clean, the chef appeared to be clean, and they were sanitized.
