My brother is a Vietnam Veteran. He was able to get admittance to Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson LA after his brother and caregiver for 10 years passed away. It was a hard transition, but a very successful one. The staff at LWVH has been so understanding and helpful and know how to deal with Veteran's PTSD. They take the residents out shopping, and out to lunch and provide wonderful care. I sing their praises!

The administration, particularly the administrator does not show any concern for the patients or staff. Most of the time, the staff is short of manpower. Especially on the weekends. The dietary needs are not being met. All patients, no matter their condition, eat the same menu. Many times, it contains too much salt, sodium, they eat too many sandwiches, and starchy foods. The diabetic patients eat the sane food as the other patients. When it comes to doctor appointments, most of the time the appointments are cancelled because of lack of transportation.

My uncle is a resident at the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, La. He loves it there. When we go to see him the staff are very friendly to us and him. He is always happy and is on a first name basis with the staff on his floor. When he leaves for four days he is always ready to return. Kudos to the staff at Louisiana War Veterans Home.

It was a comfortable facility, nestled off of a country highway. It had a nice feel to it, instead of an institutional one. It wasn't overcrowded and it was quite easy to find a nice, quiet place to spend time with your loved one. It was clean and the staff was very friendly. It felt like they really cared for their residents. They treat their residents and families with respect. The public usually only hear about the nursing home horror stories. I wish people heard more about the great facilities like Louisiana War Veterans Home. My only complaint is the laundry facilities. My grandfather's clothes were always wrinkled. If in his right mind, my grandfather would have never left the house in wrinkled clothes. He was a VP for a steel company and took great pride in his appearance. The residents' clothes should really be folded while they're still warm.
