My father is in Pilgrim Manor. We chose it because I had a friend's mom that had been there for about 13 years, and she's been pleased. It's close to my house. The staff that I've dealt with has been so good to my father. I met with them and had a meeting. He's in rehab and he's going to be there long term as well. They want to improve on anything that needs to be improved on, so that's always a plus with me. He's in the long-term wing now. Night shift sometimes keeps it from being perfect. There are some issues on the night, and there's not a whole lot of communication with the night then the day shift. He eats well and has a good appetite, and I can't complain about that either. They have activities, but he can't always participate in that. He's got dementia real bad, but they have a petting zoo, and he got to go do that outside. The facility is very nice and they're fixing to improve on that. They're fixing to redo it all over.

I visited my mom's friend at Pilgrim Manor Skilled Nursing regularly. I thought it was a nice place. The staff, from what I could see, was friendly and caring. This was before COVID, and they had activities for the residents, which I actually took part in. The people that I interacted with there, my mom's friend, her roommate, and the people she befriended, seemed to be in good spirit most of the time. They seemed to get good care, I thought, as a nursing home could. She was there the end of 2019 and went to the hospital right after New Year's in 2020. Then, she got pneumonia or something and she passed away. I did not try their food. Her one complaint was the food, so I brought her little treats or whatever and we were trying to put a little bit of weight on her. I thought she looked frail, but she had osteoporosis and all that. I thought the rooms were fine. She shared a room, and they had everything she would need. They had a television, a chair and a bathroom. It seemed clean. I thought she was cared for.

I did not have time to conduct a thorough review of this facility before my father-in-law became a resident there. Had I done so and seen how the facility had been rated by Medicare, especially with regard to the staff, I would have never allowed it. While it appears clean upon entering and the staff is extremely nice during the admitting process, they quickly begin to treat the family members and residents in a horrible manner. While the entrance is clean, the rooms are not kept clean on a consistent basis. Complaints, even when delivered in a polite manner, are not appropriately handled. If you aren't there every day for long periods of time, you should expect that your family member will not be properly taken care of. My husband and I have considered one of us taking a leave of absence from our jobs, just to be present for longer periods in order to monitor the situation. My father-in-law has had numerous things turn up "missing" and were never recovered, so you should not let the resident have anything of real value there. While considering moving him, I have unfortunately found out that the corporation that owns this facility owns most of the facilities near us. I would urge anyone considering becoming a resident or having a family member become a resident to review Medicare's view of this guest care center. While there are some friendly staff members, most are lazy, hateful and do not empathize with or care about their residents. There are others who appear to be friendly, but their actions reflect that they ignore the needs of the resident and any concerns or complaints presented.

Pilgrim Manor is well situated. The staff and the facility were very good. My mother got excellent care there. She was in a semi-private room. The room was well-maintained and the facility as a whole was well maintained. There were a lot of activities going on, and I had no issues whatsoever with them about keeping me informed of what was going on with my mother. They were very attentive to her needs. It was pneumonia that finally took its toll, and my mother passed in January.
