My dad was at McCrite Plaza Topeka and the personnel, the nurses, the nurse's aide, the social worker, and the place, and everything was great. It's just very homey and the outside is beautiful. If you take them on the patio, there are flowers and there's a pond to walk around. And on the inside, they had a recliner, and it just seemed very homey. I think he liked the food. They have everything that you could ask for. They have a nice outdoor area, they have crafts, and I believe they have a bar and all that stuff available. But he didn't use it because he was in rehab. They have a lot of activities for the people. I thought his room was homey because I'd been in another rehab facility and this one had a nice recliner, a TV, a window, and a nice closet. And it was a nice size.

I went to McCrite Plaza Topeka Assisted Living. We didn't move my parents over to this one because, unfortunately, the room or the doorways in their assisted living are old. Wheelchairs do not fit through them. It was nice, for being an older building, it didn't feel old, it's just the doors that feel old. I had three staff, and they were all super helpful and willing to answer my questions. They had game nights and bingo and had a movie theater at that location, where they'll show movies on a nice big screen. They had a coffee bar.

I went to visit a friend of mine in McCrite Plaza Topeka, and I had another friend whose parents are there. They had bought into it, so they had gone into independent living, and they moved down to assisted, and they moved to nursing. It has all three levels. The apartment of my friend in assisted living was probably bigger than the other ones I've seen. She was right near the dining room. She said she liked the food, and people were very attentive to the residents, seeing if they needed something, so I think it's a very nice place. It was well kept. I know they do a lot of day trips. There are fast food places close to it, it's a nice area, and there are residences around it.

My dad is in rehab at McCrite Plaza Topeka. They seem to be pretty happy people and easy to get along with. 24 hours a day. The place is clean. It seems like they care for the residents. The rooms are decorated, friendly, and carpeted. They are warm in the winter and cool during the summer. However, right now, they're not running too many activities because of the virus.

Early mornings the hallways sometimes smell of urine. Aids and staff stand around at the nurses station a lot, instead of checking or visiting with patients. No urgency of staff to check on patients situation when lights are on. Meals are good. Social worker staff needs to focus on care (or lack of care) of individuals in the facility.

My mother-in-law was in McCrite Plaza Topeka. We ate quite often there with her, and their food was awesome. The staff was wonderful. The owner, Mrs. McCrite, came by and chatted with everybody in the dining room, and that was really hands-on and remarkable. They had ice cream socials, Bingo. My mother-in-law never went on any of the outside things, but they had them, puzzles, exercise room, beautiful grounds, and a pond with a mini waterfall. It's just a very pleasant place. There's no smell like you would get at the other places. The staff was great and I never met anybody in a foul mood. The food was the best. It was like restaurant quality food. They kept the place well maintained.

I worked in dietary at the health center and I was treated unfairly truthfully I wouldn’t recommend this place to my dog they don’t care about the employees who actually do there job you don’t know from one day to the next if you have a job there. I don’t recommend this place to anyone

I have selected McCrite Plaza. It is very good. The residents are very friendly. The amenities are more than adequate. The staff is very cooperative. The food is adequate. There are shopping trips, we play bingo, exercise, and go on trips out to eat sometimes. The chapel is on the premises. There is enough to keep a person busy.

I did not like the memory care unit at McCrite Plaza Topeka. The entry way and everything else was very good, very warming, and very homey, but when you actually go behind the closed doors and into the memory care unit, it was very dark, had a hospital environment, and smelled. It's like I stepped through a door into a hospital, except it was dark. I was not impressed at all. People seemed to be in wheelchairs, sitting out in the hallway doing nothing. I felt the overall ambience was like they were warehousing the people who were stuck there. The staff wasn't engaging with the residents at all.

McCrite Plaza Retirement has regular staff. They have hairdressers who are fabulous. They have activities, and a church. It is a nice place. The rooms are nice. Each has a single bedroom with its own bathroom, and a kitchenette. Meals are served daily, and they can order off the menu as well as eat the specials. They do some activities outside. They take the residents to the grocery store once a week.

There is one place in Kansas City that really stood out to me, which is where I really want my folks to go. It is called McCrite. It is very, very new. That place, in my opinion, was phenomenal. Their philosophy is that just because you're leaving your house doesn't mean you have to feel like you're living in an apartment. The apartments were the biggest I have seen. They were more homey looking. They have kitchens, refrigerators, and washers/dyers. They have several buildings. They have assisted living. They were, in most cases, less money than what I have been looking at. The one thing that they did, which I thought was kind of cool, is they have a chef on staff. They offered a meal program, but their recommendation was to just go month to month to see how much money you actually spent because the meal program is kind of pricey, and my folks might actually spend less money just paying as they go. I thought that was a good idea. Also, they have a movie facility, a workout facility, an ice cream shop, a coffee shop, and a deli. They have transportation to and from everywhere. McCrite was just a very, very nice facility. The staff that I met there was outstanding.

McCrite is in good shape; the maintenance is fine; and they’re treating her well. She had a one-bedroom unit with a bathroom and kitchenette. The food is fine. There are two dining rooms and for people who need more help, they go to the smaller one. There's a wide selection of food and everyone can order off a menu. They have activities such as exercises.
