We are quickly arriving at our first year as residents here. We like it very much now that we have a professional, caring manager. I sincerely hope that the assistance of a new (Amanda) activities director can be finalized soon which will round out an excellent staff. Even though she is still considered temporary, she has tackled the job with fervor, energy and a smile for everyone. A big applause for these two ladies, She and our Manager make friendly effective team,

I toured Connect55+ Shawnee. It was very nice. The price isn't as high as the other facility. It's just nice and clean. They supply refrigerators. I see a washer and dryer hookup, and they have a cable hookup on the property. The staff was very kind and very informative. She was very good. They have an outside place where you can see it.

I toured Connect55+ Shawnee. I like the atmosphere, but the amount of space for the money that you were paying was very limited. The two-bedroom had a walk-in shower whereas the one-bedroom did not. It makes it a little harder for my dad to get in and out of the shower. The workout area was on the third floor. It was like at the top. They have the amenities on different floors, and it's kind of hard for them to get around, especially my dad's not very mobile. I appreciate what they have. It's just hard to get to them when they're on three different floors. The bedroom size was OK, but the living room space was small. It's 542 square feet whereas the one that we're going to go with is just under 1000 square feet for the same price. It's close to restaurants.

Everything was good about Connect55+ Shawnee. It was very clean and nice. The room was nice, too. The staff during the tour was very nice and very knowledgeable. She told me everything. They had some kind of a game or something when I was there, but I didn't really pay too much attention on that.

Connect55+ Shawnee was a very nice place. They just didn't have a lot of garage space, so that would be the only negative for that. The staff was excellent and explained everything very nicely. It was a nice, comfortable place. The room was also nice and clean. They have a lot of activities to mix in with the other residents in the building. They have a nice area for exercising to do that. They have a washer-dryer in the apartment, but they have another bigger area if you wanted to wash something larger like blankets or a bedspread. There's a little charge for that.

Connect55+ Shawnee was a nice community. We liked it. They had different activities for the residents during the week. They had facilities you could go and work out if you like to. The only thing I didn't care about was I wouldn't be able to have a parking garage for my other car. Other than that, it was a nice place. I would recommend it if people weren't interested in having a parking garage. The staff that showed us around wasn't the person that was supposed to show us around. That personn wasn't there and we didn't know that until we got there, but the maintenance man was the one who showed us around and he was a nice guy. The outside structure looked nice, but just to me, it looked kind of dark in there. It wasn't as new looking as I thought it would have looked for it to be open for three years.

Staff is very helpful. They can do all that is permitted by the owners, which is next to nothing!! We have been without heat in this facility for the 3rd winter in a row because Calamar refuses to spend the money to fix the problem. Let's let senior citizens suffer through the winter! They don't care! We have exterior furnace closets that a not insulated, on the outside of the facility, and the furnace freezes every winter. Never been fixed because Calamar refuses to pay for it.

My brother is a resident of Connect55+ Shawnee. The appearance is fine. He's only been in there for five days and so far, it's fine. Upkeep is fine and very clean. They seem to respond fairly quickly to requests. We have a request to get a handyman in to fix the shower. I have to check today with my brother to see if that ever got done. That seems to take a little time, but other than that, the facility seems to be pretty good. The staff are very responsive and seem to take care of any problems that come up. They have a bulletin that comes out on the first of every month and they have activities every single day that my brother can choose to go to or not go to. They have a meet and greet for new people, a men-only meeting, and a coffee and donut morning. They have a library, a computer room, and a theater where they show a different movie each day. There is no dining area, and my brother cooks his own meal.

The manager at Connect55+ Shawnee was very helpful. She showed me the unit, helped me with pricing, and gave me all the information that I needed to make an informed decision, so I appreciate all the help that she did for us. The residents were nice and the place was clean and orderly. It looked like a nice place to be. They have group physical activities like wheelchair volleyball. They had a director there that was helping them to stay motivated. If someone was feeling sick or something, there was someone there to assist them. They also had a special day, and that day was a Red Hat Day for the ladies, and they all came with their hats for a brunch. They had a list of activities on the calendar coming up for that month. On Friday night they have game nights and a men's group that gets together. They had a real nice theater where people could show movies, and they can invite guests over. It could seat about 12 to 14 different people, so I liked that as well. It's active living, so you're on your own. There's no public transportation nearby, so if someone had an emergency or their car broke down, they were kind of stuck, so that's the only thing that I see as a downfall. They have transportation with volunteers, but they will only take you to the doctor's office, like the Social Security office or something in Johnson County. They don't go outside of Johnson County.

My impression of Connect55+ Shawnee was really good. I would have moved in there if they had a 1-bedroom. It was new and had everything including functional people. The residents were all friendly and they had plenty of activities for people and something every day. That place was nice; it'd be all I needed. They have elevators, it's safe, and you gotta have a code to get in. They explained to me about their rooms. I like the whole environment. They had an art room, weight room, and a theater. I loved the place, it had everything. It had a big room in case you have people over, it can hold 7-8 people. The person who showed me around was very knowledgeable and professional. I couldn't think of anything negative about it.

Connect55+ Shawnee was a friendly community. I liked the way it was set up and their activities. They had a fitness center, a movie theater, and all kinds of things like that. Stephanie was easy to work with and very helpful. The place is new, so it's clean, and they have different fitness classes. They're planning on putting in a vegetable garden so they will have gardening, and they have raised flower beds.
