Brookdale Salina Kirwin was kind of small. The dining area was small. It was clean, but I don't think that's what my cousin wanted right now. The room looked more like a little motel room. The staff was very nice and very helpful. They took me through without really any reservations. I just kind of went by to look and they said, "Yup, we have somebody" and took me to show me everything. Some people were playing some kind of a game and somebody was in the dining room. There wasn't a lot of activity going on when I was there. The amenities were pretty minimal.

We visited Brookdale Salina Kirwin. My husband was going to stay there for respite, but I had to get a hospital bed because the beds they had there were for college students and he's 6 foot 1. If you were a 95-year-old woman and you're about 95 pounds, that would be perfect for you. It just was not appropriate for him at all. Everything else was fine. The people were friendly, the place was clean, and it didn't smell or anything. The beds just were not going to work at all. I was going to have all the furniture moved out because he has a wheelchair and he would need all the space in the room just for it. I would have a hospital bed and a TV and that's it. It's small for him. There have a beauty shop, a barber shop, and a nice place where everybody could sit down and eat and they had organized activities for them. The facility was really small.

Brookdale Kirwin was a very nice facility. The people there were very nice and very friendly. I was really impressed with it. At the time I was there, I didn’t see any activities going on. Their dining area seemed very nice.

The entire staff is very caring. They have been very kind to not only my aunt, but to our entire family. When we are visiting they always ask if we need anything at all and tell us to please make ourselves at home. The cook even made cookies and bagged some up for each of us to take home.

Sterling House is very well designed and laid out. There is a large, open area for dining and recreation, and the staff encourage residents to socialize and interact with each other. I was very impressed with the activity variety and the choice that the residents have. It was very helpful that Sterling House prices it's services for the level of care needed. That aspect makes it affordable, and also specialized for each person's level of need. They encouraged my father to be as independent as possible, and that really empowered him and helped keep his spirits high. My father was a proud, loving man, and I wanted him to be treated the same way when we started looking at care facilities. Sterling House is modeled after a home like setting, and the staff is very caring and they take the time to listen. My father likes to tell stories about when he was in the Army, and the staff always had the time to listen and connect with him emotionally.
