The people at Ascension Living Via Christi Village Pittsburg were very polite. They gave me all the answers that I needed. I got to visit three rooms and they were very clean. They were doing physical therapy with a resident, which I was great to hear about because they can give my mom five days a week of physical therapy that she needs to get back on her feet. This place was just incredible. I met the receptionist and the RN on duty who showed us around. In the section that my mom would be in, there's an open area where we could visit there or in her room. They also have other places where you can go and visit with a bigger part of the family. It had a couch, a TV, and magazines. I like that they have places where the residents in the skilled nursing area could visit together if they wanted to. (If you wanted to visit outside of that area, you could as well.) They have all kinds of activities such as puzzles, bingo, dominoes, coloring, crossword books, and just things that keep them busy. They have a nice spa for the residents where it had exercise equipment, a Jacuzzi area, and things like that. Their check-in and check-out process is awesome. She did it all on a machine. They print it out, you get a ticket, then you can just go in. You don't have to go through something where somebody has to come to you, take your temperature, you have to switch out masks and all that.

I feel this facility had two distinct strengths. It's cleanliness and the friendliness of its staff. The residents were always treated with kindness and compassion, which I believe is the most important thing to look for in a nursing home. My family and I were always greeted at the door and all the employees we encountered were friendly and more than willing to share their opinion of my relative's progress. In addition, the facility was always extremely clean. The lobby, common areas, personal rooms, and bathrooms were always clean, which I felt was very important (and probably indicative of the overall quality of the facility maintenance). While I never got the impression that staff was particularly technically skilled, this never had a negative impact during my relative's stay. Overall, I would rate the facility as Good or Excellent, because they did very well in the areas that I feel are quite important in a nursing home, and they always treated my relative with kindness and respect.
