This facility has a very homey feel. A resident greeted me enthusiastically as I arrived, and when I walked in the front door the supervisor greeted me warmly and genuinely as well. This facility is the only one in a small town outside Topeka and it definitely has a more intimate, personal vibe than many of the more urban facilities I have visited. My guide told me that the facility had been struggling in many ways but was bought four years ago by a new management company. Since then, the building has been renovated, the staff augmented, and offerings for residents greatly expanded. She showed me a calendar jam-packed with activities for the residents, and while I was there I saw several playing Wii Golf as part of the facility's "Annual Vintage Park Olympic Week." The scoreboard I saw showed each resident's total tally of points from all the games and activities they've had so far this week. In addition, as you walk in the door the first thing you'll see is a giant banner exclaiming that they passed the state survey with 100% compliance and no deficiencies this year, which had apparently never happened before. Overall, the staff and residents seemed extremely warm and friendly, with a great deal of personal connection. It also has a lovely setting, surrounded on three sides by corn fields, and at the end of a long driveway out to the town's single main road. I would recommend this facility, especially to people who prefer small-town life and a rural setting rather than being in a suburban apartment-style building.
