My mother-in-law is currently living in Brookdale Derby. They have quite a few activities, and they seem to care for the residents there. It is a pretty clean and nice place. The apartments are not really big, but they are nice. My mother-in-law has been there for four months. They have like a movie theme every month, and they see a movie. They have different kinds of physical activities. They have church service on Sundays. They have people that come in to sing and play instrument. There is a senior center not too far away, and they go there occasionally.

Brookdale Derby is a little older because it's been around for a while. That would have been my first choice because my daughter and son live in Derby. If I was going to make a move to assisted living, that's where I would have preferred to move to. However, the disqualifier was primarily the size of the rooms, but everything else was very good and very nice. The person who showed us around and walked through the facilities was good. It's one level so it's easy access.

The tour I had at Brookdale Derby was a very, very pleasant experience. The person was very knowledgeable. It was a complete presentation. We were at the conference table asking questions. I didn't get a chance to see a room. I just ended up not being quite the right time to do that, but I was very, very impressed with the facility. It was a good visit. The grounds were very good. They had a nice garden area. They plan some fairly regular activities around seasonal-type things. The gal has been continuing to send me emails and so forth and announcements about things that are going on and that kind of thing because we're waiting for a while before we get started on our search.

Brookdale Derby was quiet and serene. It had a nice atmosphere. The rooms were excellent. The staff during the tour was super. She's fantastic, very helpful, answered all our questions, made sure when we walked out, we knew what we were looking at, and gave us her card and said, "Email me or call me any time if you have any more questions." We did not eat the food, but we did see residents eating lunch, and we saw their kitchen and their menu for the week, and it looked really good.

I visited my friend at Brookdale Derby and I did a walk through and an interview with the director there. The rooms were a little bit smaller and it felt kind of claustrophobic. It was also more expensive. My friend goes to the dining room every day, and they have a chef that's really good. The director was very nice. It's a real big facility. It's right across from the Derby Library.

At Brookdale Derby, the whole community is very nice. It was about the cheapest place that we went to, but also it had a lot of things going on. My wife’s room has a bedroom, a bathroom, a mini-kitchen, and a living room.

If your loved one has dementia/alzheimers, this is not the facility for them. The staff is not trained to be able to take care of them, even in the early stages. They tend to want to "fix them" instead of just take care of them. As their disease advances, the facility will increase what you pay significantly. Due to a management change 2 years ago, there is a big turnover of CNAs here & many of them have never worked in LTC before.

I think my cousin was looking for more of a little cottage or something, not inside the building. But it was very nice. I thought it was clean, and the staff was very nice. We only got to see one room, and the lady was very nice because they had to ask her if we could look at it. So she was very, very nice about letting us come in, and there was a little balcony, which was nice. Apparently, you do all your cooking right there.

We chose here because it's convenient. They had an opening at that time, and it has been rated as a good facility. The staff is very caring and they do their job. They have a normal care plan; that's just about it. They have basic cable in the rooms for all residents. They provide quite a bit of activities. The only thing I've observed is they have exercise sessions and residents' meetings.

It is a smaller facility. The staff were very nice and everything. It was all good. The cost is what scared me away. It seems they have a lot of activities. My mother would be happy there, but it wouldn't last long because of the cost. It's just a matter of finances on my part in terms of it not being suitable, that was really all there was. But I would recommend this facility to others. It looked like a nice place.
