Bethany Manor is really good, and they got a lot of really good helping staff. It's a new addition on to the building there, and it's a brand new and nice building. My wife is with another occupant, and their room is a pretty good size and plenty big enough. They have a couple of physical therapy rooms and different exercise things. They have dieticians and people checking and testing how my wife is able to swallow different food which she won't have trouble swallowing. There's a nurse practitioner who can prescribe medications, take blood, and take it down the lab to be tested.

We have found a place in Story City called Bethany Life, and we're on the waiting list. They were able to take Medicaid. When you walk in, it's secure. They are very welcoming. It doesn't feel like it's a clinical setting. You walk in and there are places to sit that are comfy, and there's a bistro, too. It feels like you're walking into an apartment building, but they're very safe and secure. They have you screened in and screened out, your temperatures are taken, and you have to have a name badge, or you're not allowed in any area. It doesn't matter who you are, you have to do this unless you're an employee. Their food was good. They also offer food that's made to order. The facility is broken down into like four homes. They call them different things. We got to tour Ivy's House and then they have Christine's House, and then there's two other houses. They've just taken each section of the facility. Like if somebody is needing more care or they have dementia, I think they have like a memory unit, and so my father would be needing to go to a unit that still needs assistance, but they're a little more social. Depending on their needs, they try and put them in a particular house within the facility. So, the dining area is just for that particular house. It's a very small intimate-type setting. There might only be 20 people in the whole house, so those who want to dine at the table can be brought in, and it's just like eating at a little cafe.

When visiting this facility I noticed that almost all of the floor staff were from a staffing agency. When I asked why they had so many staffing agency help they told me they were going through some rough patches. Major red flag for my family! We will NOT be putting our loved one in this facility.

Small double rooms. Currently staff interaction is bad. Very few activities. Downsizing staff. Chaplain is not a pastor. Poor communication from staff and management. A lot of money spent on antiques at local place. No electronic record keeping. Doctor visits discouraged. Refused access to board members. Difficult to get information about lived one even with medical power of attorney. Long wait time for patient assistance. Bored patients.

I visited Bethany Manor, and the rooms were OK. I wasn't really impressed. It's an older place with only one- and two-bedrooms. They had a library and some exercise equipment. The dining area was small. They are doing a lot of renovating right now of units, and each unit is going to have it's own dining room. The staff seems to be pleasant.

My husband's cousin was at Bethany Manor. It was really nice. It was spotless. We saw many staff members there, because it was a little different facility where people needed more care. They were very friendly. It was a wonderful place. It was very upbeat. Everyone seemed to be very happy and cheerful. My husband's cousin had some back surgery, and they were wonderful with her therapy, getting her up and to her therapy. It was a wonderful atmosphere.
