I chose the Oskaloosa Care Center for my father and our experience is really good. They have a nursing home, I didnt care for it that much. And attached to it is their memory care center which is really good. There are 2 nurses in the station at all times, and the atmosphere is friendly. They have really good food and they have a chef. Nothing is store-bought, everything is home-made and cooked so the food is excellent. They keep everybody busy, they shower them twice a week, so its good and Im really happy with it. In terms of the staff members, 75% of them are really good and 25% are kind of iffy, like most places I think. They have therapy, they play ball, dance, play music, and they sit in a circle and hit a balloon with one of those things you use in the water when swimming, and they also color. The rooms are very nice, they have their own bathroom but with no showers; they have a community shower. The doors did not lock which is good, they have doors but you cant lock them and its spacious, you could fit a hospital bed and 2 recliners in there.

I never even got the chance to visit here myself because in the short time my grandpa was here he he was treated so badly he was sent in an ambulance to the er full of infection due to not changing a clogged catheter for over 3 days. He had zero output for 3 days and no one blinked an eye at it. He was still healing from a fall and his body was not able to fight off this infection and he has since passed. No justice for him has been found. Do not send your family here.

Staffing was horrible, had a call that my mom was slightly lethargic we went up to check on her she was on the verge of unresponsive, I told them to call the ambulance, was told we would have to pay for it because they didn't think she needed a ambulance. Her blood sugar was 600, we asked to see her charts, was told there was no one on staff that knew how to pull them up,no RN on staff after 4, this was 6 in the evening when this happened. I asked to talk to Tina, the director, was told she didn't come in during the evening, finally they got whole of her, she was very rude and started yelling at us that we ruined her evening. Sad to say my mom passed away, but am thankful she is not there, have heard from other families how bad it has went downhill. All Tina and the owners care about is the money they make, at the expense of patients and families.

I have been here for skilled care and therapy for over a month and find the care excellent. The staff and kitchen are to be commended for the care and kindness given residents. The therapists are great and push at you to strive to improve.

It's the best care center in oskaloosa as far as that goes. I have been visiting there every year for the past 4 years. This year I felt very uncomfortable being there. The care has gone downhill. The care givers attitudes are terrible. They blame shortage of help. When you take this kind of job, patient care should be #1. They should know what they signed up for. This job needs compassionate friendly caring people. These patients are so vulnerable. I saw care givers shoveling huge amounts of food in their mouths and then get angry because they spit it out. Infections are not treated. After falls, patients are not getting medical treatment. Care givers are not informed of patients past medical history. I worry how the elderly is treated when family isn't around. Instead of physiatrists for dementia patients, better spent on the staff.

I came from out of town to visit my family at Oskaloosa Care Center and was very impressed with how well the staff and management of the facility treated me and my family. It was nice to meet them face to face because I was only able to communicate with the facility on the phone. The administrator walked me down to my families room and was very professional and welcoming to the facility. I have been in a lot of nursing homes and you would of never know the administrator let along have them take the time with us. THANKS TO ALL STAFF AND THE ADMINISTRATOR YOU DO A WONDERFUL JOB!

The facility itself is very nice and clean. The administration, nurses, and CNA's need to improve on attitude and professionalism. I have been in the facility to see a neighbor and have heard administration yelling and screaming at staff in front of residents and family. That is a huge red flag! Makes me wonder how staff is treated behind closed doors and possibly residents. The owners of this facility need to be aware of how management is conducting themselves!!

We're number three on the list to get in Oskaloosa Care Center. My wife's aunt was in there, liked it and they give good care and had real good staff and everything. I know that they did good with Marlene's aunt and that's the reason she wants to go there and as far as I know, the administration and everything seems to be alright. It is well maintained. I used to work environmental services myself before I retired so I kind of looked at stuff like that.
