My parents have moved into Thomas Rest Haven & Park View Assisted Living. My mom is in Assisted Living, and my dad is in Skilled Care. It gives you that strong sense of family and community. The people there are very kind and attentive to their needs. They are very much concerned with patients' comfort and quality of life. My dad is a diabetic. As much as they want to make sure that he's not eating poorly, they don't want to deny him things that he likes. I like that because he's very stubborn. He doesn't like to be told, "You can't have that. You're a diabetic." He's like, "I'm going to be 76 years old, don't tell me what I can and cannot have." Their needs are met individually, and their staff is amazing. They have staff that's been there for 25 plus years, and that tells me a lot. They don't have a big turnover rate with their staff. The rooms are well laid out with plenty of room to maneuver. My dad is in a wheelchair. He has all his stuff in his room, and he can still move around. My mom's apartment is just a one bedroom, but it's very home-like. She was able to get a lot of her stuff from home in there, and it just it was very spacious. I did eat with my mom, and it is very good. It's just like eating a homestyle food. The dining area is like a small cafe, but a little cozier. It's not like just tables and chairs lined up in a cafeteria. It's kind of like a cozy cafe. They keep them quite busy, no matter what level of ability they have. My dad can't bowl, but he can bowl from his wheelchair because of how they do it. They do paint, crafts, bingo, and bowling. They do outdoor activities and therapy. They have things pretty well covered. The upkeep and maintenance are very good. My dad's chair was not working when he first got there, but they got it fixed and then he ended up bringing his from home. He brought his computer, and they helped him get it hooked up. There is nothing that's broken or worn down. It's not unkept. It's very tidy and well-maintained. I know that they do have a fitness room. I'm not sure about salon, but I know my dad got his hair cut. I think somebody just helps him. I don't know if that really qualifies as a salon. There's no swimming pool, but I know he gets whirlpools. They do offer physical and occupational therapy. They do have a little coffee-snack-bistro-type thing that you can go to and buy things. You can sit with them, and you can order a tray or a meal or something from their grill that they have there. The price is comparable to others in the area. It is a little less expensive than it was at another facility. I feel like for what they get here is a better deal. They are still private pay at this point; it's just only marginally less than the others in the area. For what they get and the whole facility, it is worth evey bit. They are so welcoming and accomodating, and it has a great community feel.

I though the facility was very nice. It's a not-for-profit rest home and you can tell the difference. My mother was there for skilled care after a bout of pneumonia in 2008. She also suffers from mental illness and dementia. The staff were professional, caring, and competent. She loved the aviary like many of the residents there. Thomas Rest Haven's rehab team did wonders with helping her get stronger and walking her in the halls at all hours. The only issue we had with Thomas Rest Haven was on some nights they clearly needed more CNAs. Although this seems to be the case with many long-term care facilities. However, what really stands out is the number of staff that to this day ask, "How is Patsy doing." They remember--which tells me they care about what they do and the people the care for. Mom is home now and staff still ask after her. In fact, we're planning on using Thomas Rest Haven for respite care.
