My dad moved into Mallard Point. I like the community inclusion part. Everybody seemed happy. When we revisit, all the other residents are very happy and active in the activities that are planned. The staff was wonderful. The food was great, which is a key thing. So to have three well-balanced meals included was wonderful. The staff members are very helpful, bubbly, happy, and friendly. They need a freight elevator. It was kind of difficult to get things in that were larger than what the passenger elevator was, and that's the only issue that I had. Every day, there's a ton of activity. My dad has been kind of a recluse for the last few years, and he's getting involved. He's going to some of the activities, like a tailgate party he participated in. It's bringing him out of his shell, so there are activities all the time.

I toured Mallard Point Senior Living. It was excellent. They had senior games going on at that time the minute you walked in the door. They're having a good time. The dining room was right there, which was clean and nice. The impression walking in was perfect. The staff was excellent. I wasn't there when they were serving the food, so I didn't get to see that, but the dining area was very pleasant. People were sitting in the dining area when I was there. It wasn't long after dinner had been served. It smelled wonderful.

If my brother had needed just independent living, Mallard Point was my next choice. I was very impressed with it. They offered a little bakery item just for a courtesy thing, but we did not have any meals there. The dining hall was comfortable. They weren't super long hallways. They were easy to get around, and the rooms were very spacious, so that made it more comfortable that way for independent living. The kitchenette was large, and all those things that make sense for independent living. I was very happy with the tour. The gentleman that I toured with was very kind.

I liked Mallard Point's location. It was more in an open residential kind of area and I liked the overall feel of it when you walk in. I liked its accessibility to activities, rooms, and different parts of the building. The person that did the tour was personable. I felt comfortable with him. He was very welcoming and not overly chatty. He was a knowledgeable guy. They had a beauty salon, a library, different rooms where families can gather, laundry, a chapel (I especially liked that for mom), and balconies. The rooms with the balconies overlooked more of a quiet nature kind of area. So, that was a big plus.

The rooms at Holiday Mallard Point were bigger than the ones I saw in another facility. I liked this facility. They provided three meals a day and snacks. The staff was very friendly. They treated me like I was important and introduced me to the residents there. It was just a good experience. They had a beauty shop and an exercise room. They do bingo, exercises, and all types of things.

I toured Mallard Point. I like the shower stall, and I like the closet space. I like the beauty and spa shop, the library, the little chapel, and the Bible study. The rooms are very nice with good window views. It's a very busybody place. People are active and moving about and social. I saw their independent living, but I believe I need assisted living. The staff were very good.

My grandma lives at Mallard Point. She was so excited telling me about the Iowa vs. Iowa State football tailgate party that was held in the atrium with many people in attendance. She put on her Iowa shirt and cheered on “her” Hawkeyes while waving her pom pom. The food and beverages at the party were a hit! It is fun hearing Grandma talk about the activities (art projects, Bingo, putt-putt golf), friendships, and how much she enjoys her apartment with weekly housekeeping provided. She absolutely loves the on-site beauty shop for her hair care, pedicures, and manicures. Since she no longer drives, she appreciates the bus service so she can go shopping. Grandma loves Mallard Point’s community of retired seniors living independently under one roof. She feels safe at Mallard Point and that makes me happy.

The room that I toured at Mallard Point was smaller than I wanted, but Donald, the director, was very helpful. The dining center and their menus looked very good. Then they have a beauty shop (which is important to my mom) and different activities. It was very, very clean and located fairly close to our home.

My father enjoys Mallard Point, and he's made some new friends. They're very caring people, and he's glad he made the move. The food is very good. They serve it in portions, and they have waiters. He loves his room. It's a downsize for him, but it's a lot more room than he thought he would have, and he's very comfortable there. Almost every morning, there's a game going down in the lobby, from beanbag toss to golf putting game. They get a lot of participation from the residents. They've got pool tables and exercise machines.

Mallard Point is a really nice place. My siblings and I spoke to some residents who said they really like it there. They showed us the calendar of all the different activities they have available. They have a shuttle bus that runs in the morning that takes you to Walgreens, the casino, or doctors' appointments, which comes first. And if it's not available to take you, they will get you a taxi and pay for it. They wanted us to come back and bring our dad so we can try the lunch. They have a menu with the chef's specialty, and there's a healthy lunch where you can choose 3 different entrees. If you miss your lunch, they always have a table with snacks and fruits, and in the morning they have donuts and breakfast bars. They only have independent living and they have comfortable chairs that you can rent. They would set it up and charge you every 15 minutes, the VA would cover most of that if you are a veteran.

The sales representative at Mallard Point, Darnell, was excellent. He has a great way with people in general, especially old people, and was very believable. What he said turned out to be true, so that was a plus. The managers were very open, welcoming, and not pushy. They had a lot of accommodations to show my parents around and let them see the inside of the apartments, which were very open, cheerful, and very nice. We were impressed. The location is great. If I had to find one fault, I would say the parking is a little limited. My parents are not social people. They don’t get out a lot, but they have activities there that they have taken part in. They have started to enjoy being drawn out a little bit by different people and things. I think the staff has done a good job at doing that. My parents just moved in last month.

Mallard Point was clean and well lit. I walked in the hallway with the representative, and there was a smell of smoke. I thought I saw one room that had a machine outside it, like it was trying to get rid of the smoke. The people that he addressed as we were making our walk-through all seemed very friendly to him, and him back to them. One lady said she wanted to talk to him, and he said, "I will come back to see you," and he looked at his watch and said a time. So, I was really impressed with that because I was a social worker.

Mallard Point was really neat, and the people there were nice. They had good activities and good meals. The apartments were nice and clean and had plenty of room. They had microwave ovens there, and you had 3 meals; you didn’t really need the kitchen.

We don’t live too far away from Mallard Point, and we will be going to that facility. We just liked the place where we are going to stay; the apartment has a big living room, two bedrooms, and two baths. They are very nice people, and this is the third year that we’ve gone there. The dining area is nice with new carpets. They can play cards, there are some games like dominos, and they have entertainment usually every Friday or Saturday. This is a really nice place.
