I was impressed with Bickford of Ames. It was very nice inside. It was decorated nicely with fall decorations, which I think is important for the residents. They made it look like a happy place. Darla was the one who gave me the tour, and she was very, very friendly and knowledgeable. She had been there for years and I enjoyed that. I knew some of the residents there, too, so it was nice to be able to stop and say hi to them. They also had a nice courtyard in the middle and a salon.

My mother-in-law is at Bickford of Ames. We've been having communication problems with the staff. The food is so-so. The activities provided are good, and the housing is good as well. The physical facilities and maintenance of them are very good, too.

Bickford of Ames was a nice community, it felt good, but we just felt it was smaller. So, we didn't necessarily care for it that much, and it was more expensive also. And so that was something that I guess turned me off. They showed a one-bedroom, but the square foot I felt was too small compared to the other place. The staff was very friendly, very helpful. We checked out the kitchen and the restaurant there. They looked very good. They didn't have two floors, so there were more people crammed into one area, that's what it felt to me with it being just only one floor.

My friend will stay in Bickford of Ames. Their prices rose significantly, and we got that somehow corrected. They're very accommodating. They've been very careful with COVID. You always have to wear a mask, and I have always been able to still come in. They were very cautious. They let us know whenever a resident or a person working there had COVID. They got the information out immediately, so I felt very comfortable. Somebody has cut my friend's hair there. They have a bus that takes them on tours. It's one story, and then it has an enclosed courtyard. The one story aspect makes it very appealing, just in case you have mobility issues and there's a fire or anything like that.

I was very impressed with Bickford of Ames. The rooms are small compared to what my mom has now, but their goal is you don't spend a lot of time in your apartment. They have activities for the residents to do, and they can get out and visit. This is what I'm looking for because my mother is locked in her room right now under quarantine, and at 93-years-old that's not a good thing. The staff was very friendly, the facility was very welcoming, and smelled good. A lot of these places have a smell, but this one looked clean and the residents were clean. They have two TVs, one in the main area and one in the fireplace. They can just get out, visit, and read the paper. The maintenance guy who works there full time gets the guys together and plays the Yahtzee. On the other side of the building some ladies were getting a manicure, and some were sitting on the couch while visiting, and they have activities planned all day. The rooms were really small and Mom won't be able to take much of her furniture that she has, but at the same time she really doesn't need all of that extra stuff. They have a chef there and everything's homemade, so it's doesn't sound like it's industrial.

Staff is very unfriendly, facility is locked making it feel very much like a nursing home. Cost to live at Bickford of Ames is very expensive, lady who gave us a tour was not very helpful or knowledgeable.

Bickford of Ames is a little more attuned to dementia than what we needed, but it was very clean and very nice. The facilities are clean, nice, and well-kept. The dining room was very clean. The rooms weren't quite as nice, but it was still a very good facility. It's lockdown so people can't just come and go.

Bickford of Ames was very nice, but it was smaller, and I needed something a little bigger for my mother. It was a lot more expensive, too. However, the people were very wonderful, kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. The facility was very clean. If it would have been a little bigger, I think that would have been my first pick.

My great aunt was a resident of this facility for several years, and I was impressed with the cleanliness of the place and how friendly the staff seemed to act. There were plenty of activities for her to take part in, like bingo, classes, and movie night. I asked how my aunt thought the food was and she smiled and told me that it was better than what she had been cooking at home! She seemed to be making friends and having a good time overall. The caretakers on staff were professional and kind to everyone, and made her feel comfortable and taken care of, more than when she was living by herself and taking care of everything by herself. Overall I would recommend this nursing home to anyone with a family member that does not feel comfortable taking care of themselves any longer, the clean, comfortable, friendly environment was ideal for my aunt and really took the pressure off of her. I was incredibly happy with her time there, and visiting was never a problem.

My aunt has been a resident of Birksford for over four years and I have been there at least once a year in that time as have many other members of my family. The facilities are top notch and it is a clean, well maintained facility. The room options are nice and have enough space for what they need. They smell good and are well lite. My aunt loves the food and loves the different events and activities that they get to do there. The staff are kind and well trained. They are always nice to my family when we visit and my aunt says that they are wonderful to her. The grounds are nice as well. She is able to go for walks, go to the store, and many other things while there. Anytime she is not feeling well there is someone right there to tend to her needs. I would highly recommend this facility. She also really enjoys use of the community room and the private dining room. They also have a full service beauty shop that she uses all the time. What she loves the most is that when she needed to move into a facility like this that they allow small animals so she was able to bring her cat with her.
