My mother is in memory care at Muncie Estates Senior Living. What I like the best was that, for us, it was the immediate need to find a place that had a secured memory care unit. My mother has had a little bit of dementia, nothing serious. We brought her there, and I think she felt it was a little more to her liking. For her, she felt a little more comfortable with the facility and a little more comfortable perhaps with the residents. She knew like 2 or 3 of the residents already. The people were very helpful in the transition and getting my mom through the process and approved for their facility. So far, they have done quite well. For her, this is more suitable because they truly are memory care and the people there have the training to deal with people with memory issues whereas the other facility she was at, they didn't know how to handle people with memory issues. My mother seems to be satisfied with the meals. Because she's in the memory care unit, they try not to feed them large meals in the evening. They serve lighter meals in the evenings so that the residents don't have a lot of energy. They don't want to give them a sugar high. We haven't had any issues yet. So far, so good. They seem to have quite a few activities. They have a movie theater, and my mom seems to like that. She spends more time in their community area.

Everything at Muncie Estates Senior Living was well decorated. The environment was quiet, but the residents seemed content and happy. So overall, I was impressed. They were very friendly and professional. It was very clean and there were no smells. There were not any uncomfortable odors. So, everything was pleasant.

We toured Muncie Estates Senior Living. They were very good at answering all my questions and being very reassuring. It was clean, and it seemed to have a homey atmosphere. I like the rooms, and I like the situation where each person has their own room, and there are no shared rooms. Those were some of the things that ticked the boxes that I was looking at. However, the refrigerator is a very small one where they could keep maybe some beverages and something like that. It had a microwave, which I think is probably what I would want my mother to have. The closet was somewhat roomy and the furnishings were nice. It's an old building, it's been there for a while, but it's still modern and updated, and they kept it very well- maintained. The person who took me around was very informative, very personable, and very reassuring. I felt comfortable and didn't leave there with anxieties about different things. I have not tried the food that they served, but my mother will have three meals a day provided and laundry. It was very nice. I like that it's small and it's not overwhelming. One thing that we were having trouble with my mother about is getting very overwhelmed with large crowds or big areas and all that. I like the coziness of it and the homey feel of it. It's big enough and laid out that she could walk the halls and just go around in a square, and I think that was very good because she's not going to get lost.

Muncie Estates Senior Living was very nice. The person that showed us around was very informative. Everybody was very friendly and you could see that the staff were interacting with the residents. They have a lot of activities that they could do. They take them out to go get ice cream or to a country drive. They also have a salon and exercise equipment that residents could use.

Muncie Estates Senior Living was nice. It's a little further away, but it's still in Muncie and it's close to the church we go to. One thing that we liked was it had a little bit homier atmosphere. What we especially liked was they had apartments or rooms that opened into the courtyard. They had a door from the room going right to the courtyard with a little porch where they could have potted plants or their own chair and sit outside by their door. We just really liked that about it. They had a set of headphones that the residents can put on that enable them to block out any outside noise and just hear the person speaking to them. They said a lot of people that even have hearing aids will take their hearing aids out and put those on and be able to hear the person talking to them for a change. That would be a big plus for my father-in-law because he has one ear that doesn't do any good with the hearing aid and the other ear uses an aid but he just got cheap hearing aids and he still can't hear well even with the hearing aids. They can wear those during activities or when visitors come. They have crafts, music, church services, bingo, and different games. That would be a big plus for some people, but we don't see him doing a lot of that. The staff during the tour was very good and very down-to-earth. We could tell that he had a heart for the people. He pointed out to us pictures of the staff when we walked in, and he told us how long they had been there, and a number of the key staff have been there over 10 years, which speaks real highly for them to stay. Not only the experience that they have there but also the fact that they enjoy working there enough that they would stay there and not go somewhere else.

We visited Elmcroft. I like it very much. I was talking to one woman who lived there, and I asked her if she knew a friend of ours, and she said she knows everybody there. I like that, and we live right next door. I like everything about it. I like the homey atmosphere and the décor of the whole place, but I did feel the rooms were a little small. They gave me a copy of their calendar, and it was amazing. That would be what I would enjoy a lot: the activities. Every day, there is something. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We have a friend who lives there, and we take him to church. One day, he was ill, we took him home early, and I went in with him to explain what had happened, and the person we talked to was very sympathetic and helpful.
