Well.... I would give ZERO STARS if techology would allow however it doesn't. Unless you have power of attorney, don't expect to an update from a nurse on a family member/ resident here!!!!! Even when it's your own parent AND with the POA's permission to release has been GRANTED. I understand rules but this is a, "GIVE ME A BREAK" comment. Not a fan of this place!! I hand a mother-in-law here and let me tell you, it was the worst experience for her and our family!!! She was bilingual and there wasn't a staff memember on site that was bilingual. NOT staffed property and people are not cared for well AT ALL! Crazy!!!! Pulling emotion out of this review and simply using logic. Hope they added a bilingual team however haven't seen it yet. STAY AWAY if you can!!! Choices are limited in Michigan City....

I had been to Arbors at Michigan City, and I would not recommend it to anybody. The problem with this place was when you are on Medicaid, you get like $52 a month, and if you want a TV, they charge you $15 out of that $52. Now if you do not have somebody around that can bring you toiletries and stuff, they will supply your toiletries at $15 a month out of that $52. We walked in unannounced, and we had a tour with some lady. I found some things not so good. I did not like their showers and a couple other things that I had seen in the area. I think they need to clean up. I think the nurse’s desk needs to be fixed a little bit. The rooms were standard and were nothing good. They could be painted and updated a little bit. It was an old facility, and even though it has gone through several renovations, it still needed more.

I really didn’t get to care for Arbors at Michigan City. Mom was there for rehab and their room was spacious enough, but it was very dated. The facility had this odor about it. I don’t think the attendants there were particularly helpful. I think they were more of distracted and didn’t pay enough attention to the residents. They did what they needed to do, but they didn’t exceed in any of their services. Their dining area I thought it was adequate, but not a comfortable setting.

I visited The Arbors. The rooms and the dining area were great. Everything was OK. The staff was very accommodating, and the food was fine.

When I stepped into the Arbors, it was like being in my own home. It was nice and refreshing to be honest. When I first heard that my father was going to be appointed there I was upset. When I thought of those types of places, it made me a little uneasy. But to my suprise it was more then I expected. Its a nice and friendly environment. Everyone was so nice. My father could still do everything he loved to do when he was at home. As I walked through the facility everyone seemed so happy to bet there. Therewere activities, church, a diner room, and. rehabilitation as well. Overall it was definantly more then I expected it to be. I would highly recommend this place to others who in search of assisted living in the michigan city, in are.

My Grandma was sent here after she had a stroke. Overall the facility was in good shape, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I was a little disappointed by the rehabilitation staff. The head of the department had taken a job at a new facility and was only there a few hours a week. We were able to pick out a nice room for my Grandma and we had 24/7 access to her. My Grandma was tiny and fragile, but the nursing staff was gentle with her. We never ate here because my Grandma was on a feeding tube, but the food smelled ok. The other residents seemed well taken care of and generally in good spirits. They seemed to have a lot of social activities for the more active residents. Unfortunately my Grandma passed away here, but even then the staff was so kind and helpful. They even sent flowers to the funeral.
