My parents moved into Independence Village Avon in fall 2023, and we’ve had a great experience so far. The staff works with families to address any concerns and clearly cares about their community. The housekeeping and nursing staffs have been dedicated to their well-being, and there’s always something planned for the seniors. My dad especially enjoys going to the weekly rosary and the veterans’ coffee and donuts events. We visited 9 places before we chose independence village Avon for mom and dad, and we would make the same choice again.

Independence Village of Avon was clean, but it had a smell. It's like walking into a nursing home. The staff was good, but not quite as upbeat. However, they were knowledgeable. The apartment was nice.

Granted, we are in the honeymoon phase having moved our loved one into Memory Care in August 2024. However, our move was complicated and complex because we were relocating Mom from Arizona to Indiana. The logistics included a long flight, but especially long for someone with continence issues, anxiety, as well as insulin needs, and complicated further by a three-hour time change. Thankfully, the staff at Independence Village guided us with traveling suggestions for the flight -- no one wants to disrupt a full plane to land due to anxiety or incontinence! Prior to move-in, we elected to find local furnishings like Mom’s Arizona things versus conducting a multi-state move, and luckily had a few family items stored locally. The staff was remarkably responsive and understanding relative to the distance of the move and permitting us to have everything set up prior to the plane landing. We literally disembarked the plane and went straight to Mom's furnished-like- home, new home. Also prior to moving in, we happened to meet the head of housekeeping...it was my pleasure to say thank you to her right then! Aside from occasional accidents, this unit does not smell of urine or other foul odors. I visit unannounced and at varying times of the day. There is no catch. It is a clean home. Regarding other senses, mealtime smells delicious! Everyone talks about how good the food is! I have been told that my MIL is one of the first to arrive for meals. We find comfort in knowing she enjoys one of life's simplest yet greatest pleasures at this point in her life. As mentioned at the onset, my mother-in-law (Mom), has complicated medications due to a long list of critical health diagnosis' complicated with dementia. The nursing staff has been INCREDIBLE. Have there been issues? Of course. We certainly expected bumps. The most valuable piece in that equation is the transparency and openness for remedies of any situation. In my mind, we have all been gracious and grateful to one another. The leadership team is hands-on and resident focused. They are also employee focused, too. Just as there are activities and recognition for residents, they do the same for the staff! I have met most of the staff at this point and can attest that they deserve it. The greatest part is that the recognition and festivities are shared in the presence of the residents. When your loved one comes to live in the Memory Care Unit, they inherit a new family with their new home. Mind you, I did not say a replacement family (although that may be applicable to others). In our situation, we all work together with great care and realism. Additionally, while we did not want to expose family challenges/conflicts upfront (we all have them), it became necessary. The staff countered our personal embarrassment with understanding and support. If you have read this far, you are serious about finding the right location for your loved one. Over the last two years, we have interviewed nearly twenty locations between Arizona and Indiana. We think the value we found at Independence Village of Avon Memory Care Unit is solid. Is there a downside? Yes, but it is at the core of placement need, not at the service level of this wonderfully operated memory care home.

No one wants to be in the critical position of finding senior care for their loved ones in a crisis situation, yet that is exactly where our family found ourselves about two years ago. We had concerns over cost, conditions, care, and something surprising that rose to top importance was the food. In our search, Independence Village of Avon was a favorite for several reasons. From the first interaction, we experienced a very welcoming and happy environment that was everything we wanted for our family. There was an active community of friendly seniors who seemed to really enjoy being together. If you walked through the common areas, you'd find small groups playing cards or participating in the organized activities, like BINGO, manicures, or group outings to restaurants or other entertainment. We were also impressed with the size of the rooms and thrilled that my in-laws were able to remain together in an apartment big enough to have a king-sized bedroom suite, and a "great room" (kitchen/dining/living area) that was large enough to accommodate a couch, love seat, TV, coffee tables, desk, kitchen table, small hutch and still have more than enough space to safely navigate with a wheelchair. This really made the apartment feel like the home they had to leave. Everything about the apartment was made to be very accessible. Their 2nd-story window looked to the exterior of the property, which is adjacent to a local park, and faced a tree line with lots of birds to view. We were even able to place a special bird feeder in their window that allowed them to add food from the inside, while birds entered from the exterior; it has become a hotspot for cardinals, blue birds, robins, and many more. Included in this apartment was regular cleaning and laundry - which allowed our family to focus on more important things. The common spaces outside of the resident apartments are well-maintained, frequently updated, and accessible to residents of all abilities. These areas include hallways, library, plant room, gym, movie room, private dining room, courtyard, and activity/social rooms. With the unanticipated lifestyle changes came the need for a lot of assistive care due to memory and mobility issues. The Independence Village care staff, which is on-call at the push of a button, has become an extended family to us - and my in-laws love interacting with them - not just when they need care, but also when they just need someone to talk to or help turn on a TV. While assisted living is our current need, we are happy to know that there is memory care in the same facility should that ever be a need. On our initial tour, we got to sit down to a meal in the main dining room, which reminded our children of their experience on a cruise ship. The food options and multiple courses were all very good. After our loved ones moved in, they also learned that they could request alternatives to the daily menu if they just wanted something standard, like a hamburger or scrambled eggs. While not everything is a favorite dish, the dietary staff are very accommodating in finding something that works for every taste. Making the change from a private residence to life in an assisted-living community is hard. We've learned a lot from this season of life and the team that is needed to provide the care our loved ones deserve. We have had challenges, frustrations, and lots of questions - and every time we've shared these with the leadership at Independence Village, they have been responsive, respectful, and solution-seeking. This is something we really appreciate. There were many things that drove our decision to make Independence Village the next home for our seniors, but the staff - from front desk to dietary to maintenance and housekeeping to caregivers - keep us here.

My Grandmother has lived at Independence Villages of Avon for a couple years. She recently passed at 101 years old. I can't say enough good things about the Director, Medical Staff, Community Staff, Kitchen Staff and Building Maintenance Staff. They have all been so caring and accommodating both before and after my Grandmother's passing. The apartments are very nice and the building and grounds are well maintained.

The rooms at Independence Avon are very spacious. My Mom was able to bring a lot of her furniture and belongings, which made the transition much easier. The food has been very consistent and chef provides a good variety every day. My Mom is always able to find something that she likes to eat. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. My Mom enjoys the awesome variety of activities. It gives her a great opportunity to get out of her room and socialize with people her own age. The community feels like a family. A lot of the residents look out for one another and are concerned when other residents aren’t feeling well. The community has an excellent facilities manager, who takes great care of the building and truly cares about the residents.

So pleased with the memory care unit for the care of my family member. Two staff members at Independence Village deserve a special shout-out: the memory care director, Sierra, is amazing and caring; and my billing questions have been answered promptly and thoroughly by Jessie, the property administrator. The staff take great pride in what they do to make the residents' lives better!

I love Independence Village. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. If you need anything, they are there to help you. Food is prepared by a staff that is led by a licensed chef, who has studied abroad. Despite individual tastes, there are always good food options. The food is well prepared and presented. I love how the cleaning stuff keeps my apartment clean. The lady who does my apartment is very friendly and asks if she can do anything else for me. she also takes care with my laundry. I cannot say how much I love my new home..

Independence Village of Avon (Prestwick) was very clean and organized well. They had a lot of meeting places and activity rooms, and they had a studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom, so they kind of had it fully covered. It was impressive. The studio is just one big room with a small kitchen and a bed. The one-bedroom has a full kitchen as well and the two-bedroom has a full kitchen and bathroom. They had a big activity room where they did some of their crafts and stuff like that. They had a lot of common areas where your families could meet. They had a private family dining room if you want to have a family get-together. The staff who took me on the tour was knowledgeable and gave me all the answers to all the questions that I asked.

I went for a tour for my mom and was amazed to see such a kind staff. I have been to other facilities and never met such a caring professional. I was given Tour by the Executive Director of the building. She was very knowledgeable and very detailed with her tour and explained me every little thing that i can expect. I am admitting my mother next month after meeting her. She also introduced me to the nursing leadership and provided me with personal contact information for any questions. I am very impressed with cleanliness of building and staff. I wish all assisted living facilities hold same standards.

Independence Village of Avon has been perfect for my 92 year old father. He is safe and well taken care of from the meals he receives to the additional services. They are great communicating if there are any problems. I am so glad we found this place for my father to call home. He also has many opportunities to participate in the many activities.

Although the initial visit was fine, I could see through the urgency to rent rooms. At current cost for such outdated surroundings. Some looked a bit hazardous, and the smell was not pleasant. My sister was told so many things that she bought into an allusion of high dining, the best healthcare and service. Sadly only defined by these were nothing more than empty words to fill a room they are going to have to work harder on patient care & caring staff. They really need to up their game to justify the cost. Unfortunately, at the residence expense! this becomes someone’s home, not to be entered into lightly!. do your homework.

We visited the Independence Village of Avon (Prestwick). Everyone was very nice and seemed very interested in the care that was being provided. The facility seemed to be nice and clean. The lady we met with, Ruth, was very kind and informative, and she took lots of time to answer all of our questions. She took us over to the memory care side to meet the activity director who was just fabulous, very energetic, and seemed to love her job. All of the residents over there were all out and involved. Hardly any of them were in their rooms. They were very active, which was good to see. It was nice to see all they do and how they cater to the tenants there. It seemed like a great place. If we were going to move somebody, we would move them there. The memory care unit needed some paint and some upkeep, but overall, it was in really good shape and they are in the process of refurbishing. You can tell from the areas that are already refurbished that they're working their way around. So, I think that will be taken care of eventually. I know they had planned activities. The thing that we liked is that even though it's memory care, they had single rooms that had a private bathroom. I also liked the fact that you can bring in your own furniture, so it makes it feel more like home for them. They have a little courtyard that is secured so that the tenants can get plenty of outdoor time. They had patio furniture out there with umbrellas.

The tour I had at Independence Village of Avon (Prestwick) was very professional. The problem is they're under remodeling right now, so it's difficult to get a real assessment. There were residents there, but they seemed older and I didn't interact with any of them. The staff was very knowledgeable, very sales oriented, and very professional. I saw several rooms. I saw some that had not been under remodeling, just cheaper rooms than the other place (that had granite countertops). They had Formica countertops here, and they were just plain white with sharp edges. I got there right after dinnertime. I did not sample the food. They told me they have like a five-star chef, but it looked to me like they were having fish filets from Kroger's. The dining area was dated. Pretty much everything about the place was older. They're going under a remodel, so they understand what their problem is. Carpets were stained and things like that. They had a gym and that was really about all I saw. It appeared to be more of a rehab-type gym. They had a community room that was dirty and dated.

Employees are very courteous, friendly and helpful. Everyone is very welcoming. My mom loves this place and is very happy here which makes me very happy. They plan trips for the residents throughout the week and month depending on the activity. Please consider this facility for your family needs. I think you will be happy with your choice.

This is the second facility in which my mom has resided. It is very modern in decor, the food is good, and has numerous activities. The staff is friendly and I have had very few problems, unlike the first facility. Their level of nursing care qualified fully for her insurance.

I toured Independence Village of Avon and it was very nice. There was no bad odor or anything like that. It was very nice, clean, and very inviting. I was quite impressed. The person who toured me was excellent and she was exceptionally helpful. I saw people who I think were congregating to get ready for dinner and they were all visiting and friendly with each other. She also showed me the different rooms that they had available for crafts, TV watching, and movie watching. She then showed me an extensive calendar of upcoming events and weekly events that they have on a normal basis and there were quite a few things. It wasn't something that my mother could do. But if she were able to, that would have been one of my choices. The lady that did the tour with me answered all of my questions and she was very knowledgeable. That was my first experience with assisted living, and it was much, much better than what I had imagined.

Ruth in Admissions is very knowledgeable and caring:) I talked with her about possibly moving my mom from another memory care facility. She actually listened to all that I was inquiring about and was there just to help and give advice and pass on past experiences. I felt that she truly wanted to help all that she could so that my family and I can make the best decision on if it is a good idea to move our mom at this time. Thanks Ruth!

My father’s apartment is perfect for him. Spacious one bedroom with enough space for him, clothes, pantry and front closet. Everyone is friendly and they try to settle problems as soon as possible. We have had a few communication issues with changes in staff, prn’s but they try to fix problems quickly. My father enjoys the veterans breakfast times. He has enjoyed going to Brown County and really has enjoyed eating with other guys. Covid since the beginning of September has limited the interaction but he is happy to eat in the dining room. I see many residents enjoying music time;my father is one for sports like golf and football on TV. He has enjoyed the gathering in the tent outside for fall especially with great grandchildren since they cannot visit him inside,He says everyone is miles and is nice. He is also easy to please!

I went to the Independence Village of Avon. It seemed homey. The residents seemed happy. The admissions person that I dealt with was very, very helpful, and the people at the front desk were also very cheerful, and very helpful. I did see a one bedroom, and it was very nice. The kitchen area, in the living area, and in one room and then the second room had the bedroom and the attached bath. It seemed well maintained. They have a big screen TV room and they're doing activities with the residents. Themed activities. The cafeteria dining area looked very nice. It's clean and spacious. They have a calendar up on the wall by the dining area that lists all the outings they're going to have, and game nights, movie nights, various things for the residents.

My husband has moved into the Independence Village of Avon, and the place is very attractive. They're remodeling, and it's very clean. The staff is very helpful, and informative. And they get to know their residents well. The room had just been freshly painted. It was brand new, very clean, and the housekeeping's good. They keep it very clean. They have access to physical therapy and occupational therapy. They have activities for the rest of the patients. My husband is a wanderer, he is constantly walking, so they're keeping a good eye on him. There's a courtyard right outside the cafeteria and they're able to go in and out, as they feel free. They are more knowledgeable of Lewy's dementia.

My mother moved into Independence Village of Avon. She's still trying to adjust to all the changes, but now she's become very comfortable with it. Mom talks pretty favorably about how helpful the staff has been. Mom and I have been pretty well pleased with what's going on and the help she has received. They have a lot of activities, like bingo. They're still trying to work on getting my mom out of her room a lot more. It's nice because she's located close to the beauty shop, the coffee shop, the dining room, and everything. I looked at one other place that wasn't any nicer, and it was $800 a month more.

I visited Independence Village of Avon Lake recently and they are wonderful! The staff are so caring and immediately make you feel like family as soon as you walk in the door. The rooms are nice and spacious and have a nice homey feeling to them. The staff is going above and beyond for all residents during this trying time we are going through. My mom is NEVER bored! I'm grateful she has such a loving and comfortable facility to call home!

Independence Village of Avon was a good facility. Our only issue was the cost, which is right around $3,000 a month. They don't have garden homes, and the units are like apartments, but we were told that it has everything like WiFi and all other stuff. So if you have an apartment, then all those amenities are there for you. I like that they have meal plans too. I don't like that their apartments are inside the building so that they really don't have their freedom, but they're free to come and go whenever they want. However, when you're dealing with parents that are used to having their own home and not used to apartment living, that's a concern for me. Nevertheless, the place was really clean, the room was clean, and well kept, and the staff was friendly and helpful, and they tried to make themselves available to us and to our needs, too.

They are doing a pretty good job and it's better than where my husband was. He has his own room there and they provide activities for the residents. The staff would sit down with the residents and go over some newspaper articles. They put together scrapbooks, baked with them, and made cookies. I have not tasted any of their food, but my husband seems to be OK with it.

My mother was here. The staff was fine, but they didn't have to do much besides give her medicine once a day. They did that, and it was fine. She didn't like going down to the dining room, so they brought food up to her room, and it was good. Her room was very clean. It was the best place within our price range.

My dad is living here, and it's very good. Overall, everybody seems comfortable and pleased with it. The staff is fine. They have a courtyard area. The dining room is nice. I ate there, and the food is really good. I was impressed.

It was not as new as some of the other places I saw before, but it was very comfortable. They showed to me that we could sell our house and have our other incomes and be able to live comfortably the rest of our lives, so that is a very good idea. They have choices of food, and it was very good. The apartments were very clean. Everybody was very comfortable and being together. They had great assistants that were very helpful.

He really likes it here. My father has a lot of friends there. He has his own nice apartment. They are the ones who clean it and do his laundry for him. There are a lot of activities for him to do like exercises. They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner served to him more like in a restaurant atmosphere. He really likes it there, so he is really happy. According to him, he wants to spend the rest of his days here. That pretty much tells me quite a bit when he says that. The staff is very nice and very caring. My dad is really social and really friendly, so that really worked out for him.

They were one of the places that I visited for my dad. The whole facility was really pretty nice. I met their marketing director and she was really helpful in giving me the tour. She showed me their meeting room and their kitchen area and it was really nice. When you walk in to the lobby area, it's pretty and very nicely decorated. Everyone I spoke with was really knowledgeable and offered all kinds of help and suggestions.
