I visited Betz Nursing Home, and I would not recommend that to anybody. The room she took me into, and I had been warned about this, that in the old part of the building, the rooms are permeated with the smell. As soon as you open that door, it was there. Also at Betz, two rooms share a bathroom and a sink. No shower, just a bathroom sink. So, four patients would use one bathroom. You would have to get your own phone there. It's an old building, I don't think updating would do anything. It's in the walls and the ceiling. It's just there, and I don't know how to describe it other than old, stagnant, urine, feces, smell. It's just that section, maybe the newer section of the building is different. The sections she took me into was the old part. She was helpful as far as giving me the information about the facility. I didn't tell her my opinions, but I knew immediately when she opened that door, that this is not for me. She was welcoming, that's about the only thing I can say. She did try to contact me afterward if I was still looking to move my brother; she did a follow-up. It's a fairly big facility. I think the newer sections would probably be better, but I don't think the level of care would be any better.

My mother shares a room, and it is small. They are OK; I haven't had anybody being nasty. I have only been to Betz twice for very short visits, and they have been accommodating. My mom is paralyzed, but I know she did play Bingo and enjoyed it immensely. She has an exercise program, and she is sounding better than what she was, so I am grateful for that. To me, it is not as sanitary as it should be. It could smell a little better, and then they need to make some changes on some of the patients more often. I like the fact that it is small because it is a little more personable that way. I think she gets a little more one-on-one when it is a smaller atmosphere, but it could be kept cleaner.

The rooms and the dining room at Betz Nursing Home were okay, but not of the same caliber as the other facilities. They did have a central area there where they have activities. What I like about this place is its location.
