What I like best about Porter Place is that it's newer. It's only maybe eight years old. I like the fact that they have alarm systems in all of the various rooms. If there was a fall, they had a system that would let them know there was a fall. They have room options. You could share a room or you could be by yourself. They have a bathroom en suite, and the space looked brighter. Everything was shaped like an eight, so if you went from one section and then you got lost and you wandered into the other section, it looked exactly the same. There might be a different color scheme, but it looked the same. So if you're mentally impaired, you're not going to be confused, and I like that. The staff seemed very accommodating, but it was just like one person or two that I saw. Unlike in the other location, I got to see different activities going on. Porter Place had a room where they would go ahead and watch movies. They had another area where they could do hobbies or do paintings. I liked that the whole facility was brighter and the aisles were a little wider, so you had more space as you were walking down.

I visited Porter Place. I love the welcome. I love the check-in system, the programs, the love of the residents for the facility, and the warmth of the staff. They have individual and group activities. They play bingo. They have arts and crafts.

I thought Porter Place was slightly run down. I do not like living areas that have no windows, and it was very nursing home/hospital-like to me. The people there were lovely, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. Kelly gave me a tour of the place, and she was fine. For one, they need to improve their entry. It was kind of shabby and rundown.

I cannot say enough about how wonderful and kind the staff is at Porter Place. It was a difficult decision and full of emotions for all of us when it came time to make the decision to move mom from her home. Porter Place made the entire process nearly stress-free. The community is beautiful and very clean. Her room is spacious and kept clean. She may have an item of clothing missing on occasion, but usually found. Mom is very happy and well taken care of. She enjoys the activities and being outside in their courtyard, and loves the food! She has made so many friends, too. It's amazing to see what she has evolved to in just a couple of months because when she was at home with us caring for her, she really didn't do much but stare at the tv or out the window, or maybe rearrange the house a bit. Nursing keeps us up to date on her and management has an open-door policy and always have time to speak with us. She recently finished therapy there too, which helped her walking much better than she had before. Great Community!

I think I just found Porter Place for my sister. It seemed like a very friendly and homey place to be. They cared very much about their residents. The rooms looked very neat, spacious, and very clean. They had nice views out the window and seemed very much like home. The dining room looked very nice, very bright, and spacious. The whole facility was beautiful, very clean, and just nice.

I visited Porter Place, and I liked it. They had a yard and a small exercise room with three or four machines in there. You have the option to take a private room or a semi-private. They call that the Jack and Jill, where you share the bathroom but you have your own room.

I am a family member of a current resident of this facility. I live in another state and when I call...all I get are excuses for not being able to speck with my father. It is usually that some other resident is on the only phone that the residents use or the nurse on duty for this floor is on lunch/dinner and will call me back at a specific time...which does not happen. I call back after the time that I was advised that a return call would be received and I still given excuses. This facility desperately needs more staff on the floor to attend to the residents needs and to complete promised actions.

My mom has been a resident for a little over a year and we are very happy with the care she receives at Porter Place. The staff is kind and attentive to her. We transferred her from another community because she was not being attended to and they couldn't "handle her" . Since she's at Porter Place, I get regular communication, I am not getting calls about her "behavior" and they don't send her to the hospital for every little behavior she has. In fact, she has had less "behavior's" since she has been at Porter Place because they have a different, kinder/gentler approach. Their activity program is phenomenal (she loves the chickens and going on field trips) and and the community itself is very home-like, comfortable, and CLEAN! She enjoys the meals and has even gained a couple of pounds and hasn't been sent out for any dehydration or UTI's since she's been at Porter Place. Although her memory is worsening, I'm grateful she's being taken care of and the staff at Porter Place truly care about her, and most of all, she's happy and active!

Porter Place was a very nice community. The residents looked happy. It was very clean, and there's no odor. The staff was very engaging and very attentive. I saw the residents interacting with each other. They have the standard activities. They take them on trips, but I think what stood out about this particular location is they really try and identify what makes their resident feel purposeful. For example, if the person is into gardening, then they will create a responsibility for that particular resident that's into gardening. They can do that as their job. They're not getting paid, but it's the self-satisfaction of this is what I like to do. They have chickens there. If you're into farming, you're feeding the chickens. They offered the resident responsibility if they choose and need that. I really like that about them. The staged living quarters were nice. They had no frills or anything. They were clean, and there's no odor. They offered a shared room or a Jack-and-Jill individual room where you share a bathroom type setup or an actual private room. The rooms were small, but decent. I don't have anything negative to say about it.

Not a good place,it has potential but it's not ran properly,The caregivers lack so much, there on there phones or sleeping or talking to each other instead of communicating or paying attention to residents,Notice it Everytime I take my friend to visit,Report them for what you see, stand up for the residents

Porter Place is all memory care and laid out very nicely. The rooms are very nice with several different layouts available, and the security is very good. They're able to keep an eye on all of the people. The staff who gave me the tour was very nice and did a good job. She was very accommodating, and gave me information about what I needed to do. The only drawback was it didn't seem that the staff was interacting that much with the residents. They seem like they were just standing in the corner and watching which made me feel uncomfortable. They have a hair salon, and they have several different areas for people to relax and do activities. They didn't have to be in one place at one time if they don't feel like doing activities.

I visited this facility looking for a placement for my wife as I was interested in a memory care facility. This facility is very new, not quite a year old. It is very clean and well maintained and supports memory care only. The facility is divided into two almost matching sides of the building in a design that makes it easy for the residents to return to their rooms. One feature they have that others do not is motion sensors in the residents’ rooms that can trigger alarms should someone need assistance. Most places rely on regular room checks by staff. The facility seems to be well organized, however, only about 25 % of the rooms are currently occupied. My concern here was that this meant they would be adding staff as the population increases and adding more activities and procedures changes. While such changes during a growth spurt are great it might be unsettling for current residents (with concern for how my wife would react) as they try to adjust to daily care. This facility seems to have excellent potential and current staff to help it grow.

My aunt, Helen, has received the best care that is possible. The entire staff is wonderful, very caring, compassionate, and have the patience of saints. Our family cannot be any more pleased with our choice of residence for our aunt. She loves it and all her aides and nurses.

I like the facility and some of the RN's are great, 1 not so much. The facility in Tinley Park, Il lacks enough staff, and the director doesn't seem to understand the demented mind, everything seems to be 'by the book' without looking into why a resident does what they do. Also, management doesn't 'manage' the aides, they pretty much do as they please. If they had adequate staffing, and some management changes were made, the Tinley Porter Place facility could be a great place to send a loved one.

Everybody at Porter Place seems to be nice and attentive. The facility is nice, and the room is large enough. Some of the rooms are furnished, but mom has her own furniture. What I don't like about it is that you don't have access and you have to wait to get in and out, so there's always somebody at the front desk so you can get buzzed in, and when it's time for you to leave, you have to find somebody especially if you wait after 8:00 because nobody's at the front desk after 8:00.
