I visited this facility

I toured Bickford of Peoria. I like the rooms and the size of the rooms. The layout was fine. However, I was surprised they were unfurnished. And I was disappointed with the nurse-to-resident ratio. They need more RNs. Nevertheless, I was treated fine when I was there.

I visited this facility

I toured Bickford of Peoria. I saw the dining area and I toured one of the rooms. I generally toured the facility. There were no issues that I saw. I was just less impressed. It's less of an upscale place than the other facility I saw, but it's also much less expensive. It was secured. It was peaceful when I walked through it. The rooms were larger than the ones I saw. They customized one of the facilities for someone who had multiple small dogs. The staff was pretty good in assisting me and walking me through, and talking about costs and things like that.

The walk-through at Bickford of Peoria was fairly quick because I had been to Bickford facilities before, so I was already somewhat familiar with it. The person that I spoke with was fairly new to the facility. So, I still had a couple of questions that she didn't have the answer to. The lady who normally does the tours and stuff was back the next day and called me back to answer the questions. So, they're very quick to get back in touch and answer the questions that I had. So, I was pleased overall with that. It was clean. It seemed like it was kept up to date. They had a large common area with the apartments all around the outside. It looked like their dining area was nice. They had an area on the other side for the activities and stuff. They had a pretty good list of activities to do for the residents. They were quick to greet me when I came in.

My mother has moved into Bickford of Peoria. I like that she's not in her room all the time. She's not laying in bed. She's moving around. She's eating with people now. She's in her walker, moving around. Everything's good. I wish it was a little lower price, but nobody else would take her, so I had to go with Bickford. The staff members there are great.

Provider Response

Hi Stacy, I'm so happy to hear that your mother is having a positive experience! I appreciate you taking a moment to share your feedback. I'll be sure to pass it on to the team here at Bickford of Peoria!

We toured the Bickford of Peoria. I like that place. I told my mom about it, and I think she went to look at it, but she likes another community more. Personally, if I had to choose, that would be the one. Jori, I believe she's the director there, was very kind and very nice. She took the time to explain things to me. The place was beautiful. The people there seemed just really at home. I looked at a 2-bedroom apartment. It was spacious, clean, and very accommodating. They also have apartments and studios. There are services for the care plan with different levels, and they're very reasonable. They have a doctor that's on call 24/7 and a physical therapist on site. The meals were only maybe an hour long or 2 hours long, but I think that the mealtime could be longer for any person who didn't get up till a certain time or took naps in the afternoon. So, I would like to see their meal hours to be extended just a little bit.

Provider Response

Hi, Lois, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit of Bickford of Peoria and we appreciate your suggestion for improvement.

My visit to Bickford of Peoria was wonderful. It's a clean facility, they had a nice place to eat and nice areas to sit and have conversations, and the apartment sizes were pretty good for what my parents needed. The staff did an excellent job. We sampled the food, it was very nice so my mom and dad were both happy. Everything about the rooms looked relatively new, kept up, and in good shape, and so were the grounds.

Mom was at Bickford of Peoria for respite care. They have assisted living and memory care. I loved the staff. They were very welcoming and the residents were very welcoming as well. They seemed very caring. I also liked the size of the facility. It wasn't too big. It had a smaller amount of residents. The room where she stayed was very clean and very nice. I have not tried the food, but she said it was good. She did exercises once. They had a nondenominational church. I was very happy with Bickford.

I toured Bickford of Peoria. The part that we saw looked homey and inviting. The people that we met were friendly and courteous. Our first impression was that it looked nice, and it had a nice appearance. It was a good tour. The person who took me around was friendly, professional, and courteous. She seemed compassionate and caring. It was clean, and it was easy to get around. It's a small enough facility. There's not much walking, and it's easy access for everybody.

I went to Bickford of Peoria. I like the way they have the rooms set up. It was like a mini apartment. The staff was very informative and caring. She gave me a lot of information that I could go home with. The meal was phenomenal. We had lunch there, and it tasted really good. It was home cooked. The dining area was beautiful. It was like a dining area at home, with your own kitchen table, so it was really nice. They have activities where they go places. They take the residents for little shopping adventures and tours. They have hand-and-eye coordination activities.

My wife moved into Bickford of Peoria memory care. I was impressed with the size of it. It was smaller than the others I looked at and the staff was more helpful. It was very clean. I've tasted the food and it's good. They have chicken, salmon, and hamburgers. There's an outdoor area that's completely closed. There are a couple of activity rooms and a couple of lounge areas. It's a little expensive for what you get.

I really liked the Bickford of Peoria. Their director thought my husband would do well in the other section. She didn't think he was ready for memory care yet. They did not do a formal evaluation. She just visited with him, and she felt he could start in the assisted living area and then move to memory care when needed. The rooms were nice and large. They had little kitchens, which made me nervous for my husband with his memory issues, but I think it would be very nice for those able. None of the other facilities had kitchens in their rooms. The staff seemed to be very friendly and involved with the residents as well. In fact, when they found out my husband was a cook, they said that they would ask for his help sometimes, preparing snacks and things. So again, trying to get to know the residents and what their interests are, and in that way, I was very impressed. In the memory care area they have little niches where they have dolls and activities so that those who have memory issues can pretend to be caring for babies. They had another area with a lot of equipment like backhoes and tractor things, so residents could interact with those. Very home-like atmosphere. A lot of accessories on the table, pictures on the walls, very traditional type furniture, and just a really nice, homey atmosphere. They were starting to serve food as we were leaving, and I thought it was very nice how the waitstaff went to the table and offered the food to the resident and then offered a substitute if they didn't care for whatever the food was. They didn't slap it in front of them. They actually were waiting on them.

I visited this facility

We like Bickford of Peoria best of all of them. The reason is that a lot of the places, other than their community areas, just have long hallways of rooms. This one, on the other hand, was set up with rooms on the perimeter that opened up into community spaces. So you very much have the feeling that right outside your door was a lot of life and a lot of activities, rather than just being in a hallway. We got a very positive impression. We met with their nursing staff, and we're impressed with them through their assessment process. We're also impressed with the fact that they're very willing to work closely with VA nurses and hospice, if necessary. The staff who gave the tour is excellent. The facility itself is very clean and has a lot of activities for a senior to choose from. It has very pleasant indoor and outdoor spaces, and there's particular recognition of veterans. Their location is very convenient to shopping and entertainment venues. They served refreshments to us at the time of our visit.

Bickford of Peoria was excellent. The price was expensive, but they had excellent care plans. The facility was really nice. It wasn't the fact that I didn't like it; it just didn't set the criteria that I needed. It was a very nice facility. We met one of the nurses, the director, and the assistant director. They were all very nice.

My brother was in Bickford of Peoria for 7 months. There is no care there as far as nursing care. They have a bus that takes them on outings, they have games, andentertainment comes in certain days of the week. But everything comes at a cost.

Provider Response

Thank you for your honest feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience. Please know this is not the standard of care our residents and families have come to expect from us. Will you please call us so we can learn more about your experience? Thank you.

We have looked at Bickford of Peoria. They have a pleasant surrounding and they have all the main components. We have looked at the independent and the assisted living because we wanted something that my dad can transition in. Their apartments were good. They had a full kitchen and extra storage. The dining area was nicely decorated and spacious. They also showed us the library and the rec room. The staff members were very outgoing, friendly, and knowledgeable.

My brother has moved into Bickford of Peoria. They assist him with food and medicine. Otherwise, he does everything on his own. It's been great. The staff members are great, friendly, and helpful, and they do what they need to do. His accommodation is very nice, exactly what he needs, and it's more than adequate. The food is topnotch. He loves the food; it's the best part of the place. We're perfectly satisfied with it.

My dad is now in Bickford of Peoria. We were not referred by anyone when we first went there, but the director was amazing. The place is gorgeous and it's very warm, my dad is doing well. My dad said that the staff has some good things and they've got some bad things. The activity director constantly knocks on every door, so my dad walks and they want him to volunteer for different things so he's doing well. He gets to sit at a table with other residents and converse. It's a beautiful place and his apartment is also beautiful.

I am/was a resident of this facility

My husband and I stayed at Bickford of Peoria assisted living for two weeks. For what we needed it for, it was great. The staff had been very helpful and friendly. We attended the church services and talked to people during meals. One thing I suggested was that they put up a curtain rod in the one-bedroom since there was just blinds there and it didn't really keep out the light if we needed to nap in the afternoon. I was satisfied with the food but my husband was not, but you can only do so much when you're cooking for a crowd since everybody has different diets.

Bickford of Peoria was wonderful. The residents were happy and lively. A lot of extended family as visiting. The owner knew the residents by name. When we were in the orientation, the kitchen manager came in and gave us a menu so that we can know what the meals will be like. He brought us lunch, dessert, and homemade Cool Whip. We loved it. We got a good feeling of what it would be like for our father to live there. The cook mentioned that they grew herbs, tomatoes, and some vegetables in the back, so they got it fresh from the garden. They showed us one of the rooms, and it looked like an apartment with stoves in all the units even though they provide all the meals. Anyone living there feels like they're 100% at home and don't feel like they're living in a high school or college dorm. It was beautiful. We looked at a lot of different places and their food was the top. It's a family-friendly place that didn't smell like urine as soon as you walked in the door.

The staff at Bickford of Peoria is excellent. We did a respite visit for my mother there, and we're doing another one this Friday. The community is very lovely, well taken care of, there are lively themes in different areas, and it's very spacious. They offer the ability to take your loved ones to doctors' appointments should you need them to, they do laundry independent of each resident, and they have private rooms.

I toured Bickford. Everybody was very friendly and greeted us. I like that everyone has their own apartment. They had an exercise group, bingo, and a whole list of activities. They had a variety of food, and you could sit at a table and order off the menu like you are in a restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly. We saw one very nice room. I liked that they had individual apartments.

My cousin stayed at Bickford for three years while I was overseas. The director and I became very good friends because when I would come home on the holidays and I checked on her, I felt that they were taking excellent care of her. She loved it there. She had the freedom to move around in the building, but in order to go out of the building, you needed to know the code. It was locked in, and I liked that. The dining area was perfect, and the food was delicious. It was nutritious and good. They had bible study and crafts. They went on bus tours.

I liked Bickford very much. It was absolutely lovely. I have no criticisms at all, except that it was expensive. My mother and her husband couldn't afford it. But I loved it. I liked the people. I loved the facility; it looked great. I'm sure my mother would have loved it, but it was a level of luxury that they've never had, and they can't afford it now. It looked very nice and great, though.

Bickford Senior Living got memory care, but they’re just not so equipped like the one he did now. They were still good as far as food and safety and all this. The rooms have been great, spacious, very warm, and clean. I have eaten there, and the food was very good. Very friendly atmosphere. They have two things going on each day: movies and they bring dogs in.

My mom is in Bickford of Peoria. It is an assisted living, and it is a very nice facility. The room has a small living room, a kitchen area, and a pretty good size bathroom and bedroom. It is about 550 square feet. What impresses me is their easy access to memory care because my mom has dementia. She is not in the memory care yet. If she goes to memory care, the cost is going to go up dramatically, but not as much as some of the other places. She goes to church. She watches some music being played by children, and she enjoys that. There may be some other activities that she may be involved in, but right now she is a little resistant of being there, so it will take time.

Bickford is a nice place to live. I have a two-bedroom apartment and it's spacious. The food is institutional and that's the same thing I've had anywhere else; I hope they can improve on it. They have activities and I've participated in some. I'm satisfied with it.
