I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Do NOT take your loved ones here. The place is disgusting and staff hardly check in on their patients. My grandma was specifically put on a mechanical and nectar diet after being discharged from the hospital to this facility. It took them a week to get the right food. We had to make sure a family member was always there at meal times to look at the food. One of the meals she was served, an Italian beef sandwich and a bag of Cheetos. My grandma also couldn't feed herself, and the staff could care less. She sat in her own urine and feces for hours if weren't there. She also said she fell and was covered in bruises. Nothing was ever mentioned to us, but I believe she did fall that first day since staff hardly come in. I will say there are a couple good workers, but that's all I got. She was hospitalized and put on hospice then passed shortly after being here. She was extremely malnourished.

Just say NO. Floors are nasty, around toilets gross. I was told they prefer you wear a diaper verse asking for bedpan. It’s easier on them. My friend has her mind still knows when she got go. Don’t do it.

When the facility was Heartland the service was great, but since it is has changed names the care has definitely decreased. My loved one was there under both names and the care has definitely changed we will seek out another facility if we need care again. It is a shame what has happened to such a great place. Only thing still decent now is the therapy. Can't even get a decent meal anymore. Not a way to keep our business.

We would NOT recommend this facility. The staff is always changing. (Even management) The training is non-existent. They are so shorthanded they have agency come in to fill spots for nurses and aides. There is NO accountability. If the patient or family has a complaint they will say "I don't know, I'm with agency. I'm not normally here". They don't help a lot of the residents with eating, personal grooming, or getting into bed, even when it's obvious they need help. So much drama always going on, they don't have conversations with the residents. The care is lacking. The quality of the food is terrible. It is often served very late and when it does arrive, it looks terrible and most of the time, cold. The rooms are in poor condition and not cleaned properly. They often times smell terrible. If we knew then what we know now, our family member would have never been there. A lot of mistakes are made and nothing seems to change. (except the help) They need to have professionals working and training and until that's done, we can't see it being a place for any loved one. The only positive things we could see were therapy and activities. We would not recommend this place at all.

I visited this facility

Toured facility. Strong urine smell and very hectic place. Staff appeared overwhelmed and over worked. The gentleman that gave the tour tried to explain it away but it was obvious that there were several issues. I asked to see the dining room and it was heartbreaking. Several patients sitting with plates who couldn’t feed themselves but no one was trying to feed them. Just not somewhere I want my mother to be.

Everything went fine at The Loft (Heartland of Normal). They were very nice to my sister and she had no problems and wasn't upset with anything. She was happy, and her room was nice and clean. The staff was very polite, nice, and seemed to know what they were doing. My sister's nurses seemed to have everything under control. She also seemed to like the food but it's still nursing home food. She didn't do a lot of activities, but she did rehab. They do a lot of bingo and all kinds of things in their cafeteria though. The place itself was really good, clean, and didn't smell. It was kind of expensive but nursing homes are expensive.

Heartland Health Care Center-Normal is a very nice, well-run community with very caring people working for them. They're located just a street over from the Normal downtown, and they have very nice grounds where the patients can go out. They have outside areas where they can go for walks. They also take them out off-site for activities. It's very nice. I wouldn't call it homey exactly, but they try. My father's room was a shared room, and they kept it very clean. Some of the other rooms are a little cramped, but still fine and have nice, big windows. The residents are allowed to decorate their rooms. The staff is great. Dad really likes the food; it's good, and people who eat it seem to really love it. The facilities are nice and clean. They take care of their patients.

Heartland seemed very clean. It didn't smell, and it looked very nice. My mom's room has two beds in it which she shares with a roommate. The furniture is fine although it had a couple of spots but nothing bad at all. I thought it looked good. The staff is very friendly. They do seem knowledgeable when I ask them questions about my mother. They have activities every day in the dining-activity room. Right now, she is getting therapy three times a day. She is exhausted after her therapy. When we were still looking, it was one that was recommended by her friends. So we went and looked at it. It looked nice and clean when we walked in.
