I went to Sunrise of Buffalo Grove. It was nice. It feels like a big house mansion. The lights were good there. So it was good. It was just way too over our budget and my price. A microwave and a refrigerator are included in the apartment. The person who took me around was fine, professional, and nice. They have a little courtyard.

Sunrise of Buffalo Grove was a very nice community. It seemed clean. However, I would describe it as darker. There were a lot of darker wood tones, those types of things. They would have been an option, too, but they're about 30 minutes from my house. I wasn't thrilled but for no specific reason. The atmosphere was subdued. When I was there, which was the middle of the afternoon, there didn't seem to be a lot going on. I didn't see the menu, but their dining room was nice. The staff who assisted me was nice but unexciting. She didn't seem to be enthralled with me being there. The place was clean, and I didn't see any maintenance issues. Everything seemed to work.

Provider Response

Hi Doug, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate your kind words about our community's cleanliness and dining room. We apologize if the atmosphere seemed subdued during your visit. We'll work on creating a more vibrant environment. We hope you'll consider visiting us again in the future.

Sunrise of Buffalo Grove was very clean and everyone was friendly. They showed us around and spent a lot of time with us. The grounds were very clean. We saw a sample room and so it was very clean, too. We saw a lady in the memory care on a screen and it seemed like everybody was interested in what she was saying. The staff was very friendly, very informative, and helpful. The dining area was pretty good. The food looked really good as well. They have a library and lots of places to sit for visitors.

We are going to choose Sunrise of Buffalo Grove for my mother-in-law because of the cost. We found the cost to be very cost-effective, and we found the people there to be very friendly and accommodating. Britney was the one who gave us the tour, she was outstanding, caring, she was informative and sensitive to our needs. She responded honestly, and it was really a pleasure working with her. I saw a studio room with a very small bedroom, but she'll have her own bath and shower, and a little area that has a very small refrigerator and a microwave. We haven't tried the food yet, but we're scheduled to do that soon. The dining area was very pleasant and very attractive, and the food choices seem to be lovely. Everything that we saw was presented very nicely. They have a full schedule of activities, including entertainment, and they have informative discussions. People who I think are able to be active can be active throughout the day if they choose, and they also have a TV area for those who want to watch the news or watch a movie. So their activities were well planned out throughout the entire day. It's a very lovely facility, they're very pleasant, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. People can sit outside a porch area, which was lovely, and they have a screened-in area, which was also really nice.

I toured Sunrise of Buffalo Grove for my father, but it was too expensive. It was a great place. It was very clean. We liked the management and the dining room service. They had transportation for the residents. The building had a very nice layout. The rooms were beautiful. The dining room was beautiful. The staff was very friendly, professional, and willing to help you out as much as they can. They tried to make the place affordable for us, but we just couldn't meet their price.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom has been a resident at Sunrise for 15 months and there are constantly problems. I'm her healthcare POA and she was being administered a increased dosage of medications without my approval or authorization. She has dementia and can't agree to any changes. Her monthly fee is increased due to the need of more care but nothing has been revised since her original agreement of 8/2021 and there should be no fee increases. She eats breakfast and dinner in her room and now they want to charge her $10 per day because she isn't going to the dining room. She's non ambulatory and it's very difficult to transport her to the dining room. There is much more but then I would be writing a book.

I visited Sunrise of Buffalo Grove for my dad. It's located next to a fire station. I like that it's a new community and it's very well kept up, so it's got a good atmosphere about it. The layout is very nice and very easy for the clients to get around. Their dining area was well kept and laid out for the clients to have a social atmosphere.

We went to see the assisted living of Sunrise of Buffalo Grove. We went on a Sunday and the gal I talked to on the phone wasn't working that day, so we had someone else show us around. He answered all of our questions very nicely. I thought it was very clean and looked very nice when we first walked in. Probably because they were assisted living, the rooms were really small and you didn't have a special place for your couch or anything. The kitchen was very small with only one cabinet in each of the three rooms we saw. We thought they were smaller compared to what we were looking at before in another place. He said they had activities but we really didn't go into detail about what activities. They sounded good though because I guess there's exercise and they have rooms for meetings and stuff like that. There was a room where a person would come in and you would go and exercise with her. It was part of the place where they watched TV and stuff. They probably set it up on certain days to exercise. The person who assisted us was very nice. He showed us around and answered all of our questions and did a great job.

We toured Sunrise of Buffalo Grove. Jojo was so friendly. He came and greeted us right away, and that was facility's dog. They're pet friendly. Everything was fresh and nice. It was just a little bit out of our price range, and then we would have to switch doctors. The staff who toured us was great. He answered all our questions, and he was friendly. He went through the day with us and how the community goes. They have popcorn every day at 2:00. We tried a cookie, and it was good. It was fresh out of the oven. The facility was great. They offered everything that we needed, like meals three times a day, laundry once a week, and activities. The nurse was there onsite. It was clean, and it had a good smell when you came in.

I toured Sunrise of Buffalo Grove. It was excellent, but also much shorter in one room. There was one room that had furniture in it. I saw the model of what they said would fit for my mom right now. That's all I looked at. I didn't get their layout, and I didn't get a calendar of their activities. They told me about what they do; that there's doctors and staff. They have much more things available too. They have immediate care and staff, 24 hours. They have more nurses on staff, doctors come in once a week, and there's physical therapy. Everything that you need. They have life alert. They come check on you and do medication management. There's the food in the restaurant area; you go down three times a day. She did say that they have an afternoon snack down there. There's activitities, but I didn't physically get to see a calendar. I'm not sure what they do, but yesterday I got a folder with the menu and a calendar of everything for the month. It's very cozy.

I visited this facility

I liked Sunrise of Buffalo Grove more than its sister community because it didn't smell like old people. The building architecture was the same as well, so I got the impression that all of their buildings are identical. Inside the apartments were small but neat, well-furnished, and well-maintained. It has a family atmosphere sort of environment since there's only about 40 people rather than hundreds. The staff member who gave me the tour was very nice and capable, but she didn't give quite as lasting an impression as the other girl from its sister community. However I wouldn't complain or say that she's not good at her job; she was very effective. They have a great room upstairs, and they have a small facility for physical therapy. Most of the activity probably takes place in the great room, which is quite large. It's where they show movies. I like this community, but my sister wouldn't. I met the head of the kitchen, and she assured me that whatever limitations my sister has in terms of diet that they would accommodate it. I believed her; she was very sincere.

I was impressed with Sunrise of Buffalo Grove. The director spent an hour and a half with us answering every little detail. You could really feel that she would be sincere. The only reason why we didn't pick it is that we thought it was too far for us to drive from Woodstock all the way to Buffalo Grove. I love the way they had it laid out where everyone was there watching TV with popcorn. Everybody was together. It was open. The other wing was for dementia but it didn't look like it. They had one door there that they would watch to make sure no one got out. It was very pleasant. There were bright rooms. It was not depressing at all. Overall, Sunrise of Buffalo Grove was classier than the other community. The staff who toured us was excellent.

We went to Sunrise of Buffalo Grove, and it was an overall excellent experience. I would've really liked to have gone to that facility. It's excellent and beautiful. I was there for a buffet and the food was absolutely delicious. The staff was just so extremely friendly, attentive and answered all of my questions. They went out of their way.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

my father in law is a resident. The staff is very nice and caring. However, we agree with the gentleman below about the upkeep of the property. Even from when that was stated last August there are still 10-15 and even more dead trees and plant material. The building is not maintained in the way it should be. The building is about 30-35 years old and needs a new roof, painting and wood replacement on the exterior. The interior is in poor shape. The chairs in the dining room have arm rests that are coming up, blinds have broken slats, carpeting in many areas needs replacement. When the rates went up January 1, 2017 it was stated that they needed more money to maintain the building & for staff. I don't see either as have happened. The building is in poor shape. We spoke and wrote with the director and she said it was being taken care of and has not to date. We're almost into June 2017 and nothing has been done.

We were very warmly welcomed at Sunrise; the woman there was unbelievably kind, gentle, and generous with her time. It was warm and inviting. It's a much smaller facility, and it's not new. It was not a good match for us, and my parents are still very active. They have a lot of in-house events, and there's a library.

My wife is in Sunrise. The care managers are, for the most part, very kind, very capable, and very good. However, there were some who are just doing their jobs, and the management is unresponsive. The maintenance of the building is not great nor hygienic. Outside, they have 10 to 15 dead trees that they haven’t addressed. I think they need to update the interior and the furniture in the dining room. Their activities program is very weak, so they need to replace the activities person.

Everything at Sunrise of Buffalo Grove was very nice. The people were very accommodating and they took time to take me around and show me what they have. It was a very nice visit overall. The rooms were fine. They have a salon and a lot of areas for activities. The dining area was small but it was nice, clean, and uninstitutional. I would recommend this facility.

Sunrise of Buffalo Grove is nice, but they're highly priced. I loved their dining area. It's all assisted living, and I think it's the thing that kind of shocked my mother to make the change right now. She's still in independent living, and everyone there was assisted or memory care. The staff was great. The calendar of activities is limited because it's a smaller facility, and also no doctor visits there. There's a grocery store nearby, so there are things nearby.

Sunrise of Buffalo Grove was very nice and very clean, the people were very friendly, and the staff was very professional. The rooms were really pretty. I am a friend or relative of a resident

I moved mom to Sunrise of Buffalo Grove. It's just been three weeks since she was there and they made it sure she is comfortable and try to help her adjust. I chose it because it was small and it seemed like there the ratio of the caregivers to the residents were better. It's a great place. The staff was fabulous. They are very nice and caring. They call me when they have concerns. Every one of my friends that have gone with me to visit my mother has said, "I want to live here". I want to live there too. The rooms were very nice. They seemed more than accommodating to the residents. They are very clean and the facility is pet friendly. With their activities, they do have an activity room and they do exercises. They also play bingo and make some things like bracelets. I like everything about this place.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We recently found ourselves in need of care for our Mother. I had no idea where to start. Caring.Inc provided several locations to look at. We were so pleased by this facility. The most important thing was Mom's safety. The care givers were everywhere with the residents. I loved the amount of activities offered to the residents. We had lunch there several times and found the food of an excellent quality. We moved Mom in a week ago and no longer fear for her safety. If there is anything I could view as needing improvement is more assistance in the paperwork. As expected there is a great deal of paperwork and we have found it necessary to obtain information multiple times from Mom's Dr. It is a stressful time when making this life altering change for our Mother. The need for additional work does not help the stress level. I feel so much better that Mom is now taken care of so well.

The entrance is very large and there is a staircase that goes up to the second floor. The room right next to the entrance is spacious and has a old fashioned popcorn machine that is very cool. The rooms are extremely large, but the downside is there is no living area in some of the room. The bathroom is big and easy to use. The color scheme is a little depression because it seems like it is too old-fashioned and not modern enough but other than that it seems like it would be a nice place to live.

This is an awesome facility! The entire staff is so nice, and it just feels homey. They have a large dining room with delicious - sounding meals, and a parlor room with TV and a fireplace to stay cozy during the winter months. The rooms are spacious and clean, and there are various activities for the residents. There is bingo, concerts, trips, movies, exercise and so much more. The caretakers are nice and warm to all the residents, and there are even volunteers that come to help out. During my visit, I saw two volunteers playing a game with a resident, and another doing a puzzle with one. Everything is nice and spacious, and there is even an old jukebox (that doesn't work but is still a nice addition) and popcorn machine with actually popcorn that you can eat. Also, the facility is located close to a store plaza with Wendy's, Dominick's, a pizza place, and more, so it's easy to take your loved one out to breakfast, lunch or dinner. There are games that you can play any time you want, like banana grams, scrabble, left right center, and more. In addition to all this, every resident gets their own "memory box", made by volunteers with stickers, cutouts and photos of the resident and things that he/she likes. This is a wonderful place and I would recommend it to anyone.
