I had a lady friend from my church who died in Beecher Manor Nrsg & Rehab Center and my mother is in there, too. I had to get her out of there then. I think it's getting worse over there now because they are gouging the price of the stay for my mother. I was given an approximate quote of $6,000 a month and it's not even close to that. The personnel were kind of goofy over there. They have stupid rules. If you're not the power attorney, you have no way of getting your mother or your father out of the nursing home. The power of attorney is the only one and if they don't feel like doing anything about it, they'll just let them sit there. The staff is OK. They're pretty friendly over there, but they're not utilizing all their skills the way they should be. They kind of favor different patients and my mother was kind of left behind. I've seen other people walking around in the therapy room. When they tried to walk my mother sshe was in a wheelchair, she stood up and had her arms on these two rails (one arm and each rail with her hand grasping the rails). She walked about six inches. The lady went on and said, "Let me know when you want to stop." Then my mother said, "Stop right away." and they backed her off six inches and put her in the chair and that was it. That was about 20 or 30 seconds of trying to walk her there. That's all I've ever seen. They're always running an hour behind on their meals. They had like a bingo game once in a while, but that's about it. I think they should tell you upfront what the room is going to cost before you sign up and everything.
