Holiday Kalama Heights wasn't too bad except that I don't like where Kihei is, but the people there looked like they were engaged in activities. The only good thing about Kalama Heights is that they provide food and stuff. It didn't seem that bad a place, but it is getting kind of old. In Kihei, you have either one or two places that you could exit and there's a lot of traffic. There's a buildup of cars, especially after everybody gets to work. They only showed me one room. They have a small, medium, and then a larger room, but the price also goes up. When I looked online, it says it starts around $3000, but when I went there, it was much higher. They have an increase every year, except instead of 5%, it's 3%. I am diabetic, so even though they say that they have three meals a day, I don't know what they serve. The staff seemed alright. They come in and clean once a week. The atmosphere seemed just so-so.

Holiday Kalama Heights is beautiful and it has a lot to offer. Everything is included and it's very expensive. There was one room that was nice. Each one has its own lanai, but the one that I looked at online had the parking lot as the view and I don't like that one. There was another room that I saw in person. They were both studios and they were nice. It's just one room with your own separate bathroom and your own kitchenette. There were a few common areas, and they had their own library. They had activities all day. They give rides to doctor's appointments. They have their own physical therapy room and physical therapists. It's a good place, and it's only a block and a half from the beach.

Holiday Kalama Heights was OK. I liked that the prices were somewhat lower than the facility where my mom is already at in Honolulu. She would be able to get a bigger apartment for the same price and the same apartment for a lower price. That would be good, but it's more of a fourth or fifth choice just because it's about between a half an hour and 40 minutes away from me, depending on traffic. It had all the amenities that the other place has. There wouldn't be any change, really, except for physical location for my mom because she's already in a Holiday facility in Honolulu. I don't think there would be any real drastic change of a routine or protocol for her. I was just there for a brief tour. The actual general manager took me around and he was very, very helpful and friendly. I was there between meals, but I wouldn't doubt that they probably have the same menu as my mom has at the facility in Honolulu, which is why it would be nice if we could get the bigger unit that has an actual kitchen. She would like to do some of her own cooking because she found the menu at the other facility kind of repetitious. The cleanliness was a five-star; the maintenance was a 4.5-star. I could see on the exterior of the buildings that there are starting to be some surface cracks in the stucco, and it could probably use a fresh coat of paint. A lot of the residents were in the TV room watching a show when I was there. Not many of them were very animated. I didn't see as many walking around enjoying the outside or doing that while I was there, but it was also a very hot day. If I was a resident, I would be in my room with the air-conditioning. It's in a very hot area on Maui. The particular location doesn't catch a lot of the wind or the breeze until the afternoon. In the morning, the buildings can heat up fairly quickly. They have a lot of shade on the sides of the buildings, but you can't really grow trees tall enough to shadow a two-story building, so there's a lot of heat coming in through the roof. The hallways were fairly warm and the rooms that I was visiting to look at didn't have the AC on and they were very warm. Unless you run the AC there, in the summertime, then it could probably be uncomfortable. Other than that, it was good.

Holiday Kalama Heights is very nice, very clean, and very spacious. The staff members were very helpful. Once we went in, they asked if we needed anything, and they were very cordial. And when we told them that we were there for a tour, they went to the person that was going to give us the tour and everything worked out well. So the staff was very nice, very friendly and very helpful. We saw a 1-bedroom, it was nice and spacious enough for what my parents needed. It was also nice to hear that we would be able to make accommodations and adjustments in the room, to be able to fit the needs of my parents. We were invited to try the food, but we had another engagement we needed to go to so we were not able to. They had a library with spacious seating in the reading room, they had a lot of books on the shelves, and two computers that were accessible. Next to that was a lounge area where they can watch TV and be social. We were informed about a beauty salon, and the fee that we would have to pay was pretty minimal, it was pretty affordable. We went out to the pool area, they told us that the place was pet friendly.

We toured Kalama Heights. They have a nurse on the property. Everybody was nice enough, we talked to the site manager who was very cordial and informative. We didn't witness any of the residents. We weren't there during the dining hour or anything. So that would probably be something I would want to witness if we were to move her there. The management was very helpful and friendly and it appeared to be a friendly community. It looks acceptable, it has a view of the ocean, it has a beautiful view, and it has an open, airy environment that's easily accessible. My mother-in-law is in a wheelchair. It looked like they did have ADA units available that would meet her needs. Other than the cost, it's something we would consider. The dining area looked nice. It was in an open format, but we didn't try the food.

I toured Kalama Heights and it was very good. They got back to me right away. They had a lot of amenities. They have a pool there, a laundry room, and they have lots of activities that they do with the residents that are there. I also noticed that they have a menu each day for the residents as well. They also have a 24-hour healthcare or 24-hour home care agency that is available. It's additional, of course, but it's also available for any of the residents if they need that type of care, too, which is great. I think they allow pets, too. Not that I was going to have my mom bring a pet, but they do allow that as well. The units are really clean. They also provide that type of service where they do the floors and linens. They don't necessarily wash their dishes for them or things like that so that they're still independent, but they come in and they do light housekeeping. That way, they keep the floors clean. I thought that was impressive. Overall, it's very clean and neat. There are some pretty views from the property, too, and they have some fruit trees in the middle of Kihei. It's pretty much independent living with options. They're also open to home care companies that can come in and help take care of certain services, like bathing and things like that. There are nurses available 24/7 on property if needed. They also had a workout room that was like a physical therapy type, and that was really awesome. The staff members were very friendly, and they interacted with the guests a lot. The menu was nice, and I think the residents have the option to select on the menu what they would want. They get three three square meals a day and they also had fresh fruit available for them just whenever they could come by to pick up fresh fruit. That's every day, and I thought that was neat, too. It was a lot of fruit, too. The atmosphere was very relaxing, and everyone was really friendly. They are very conscientious during this time with COVID. They haven't had any cases there, too. Right now, they're not allowing any children in the vicinity. I brought my grandchildren with me to visit with them and we could actually meet by the pool area. So that was really nice to know in the event that we wanted to do that. But they're very conscientious with COVID right now, and that made me feel comfortable, especially for my mom's health.

My father is at Kalama Heights. It's been a really positive experience so far. The staff members are all really great. It's a very nice place. They seem to have a lot of options for activities when there's not a pandemic. They have exercise classes, there's a pool and room to lay by the pool, and they have movie nights. The facade is very well kept and very nice. He's in a studio, and it's very spacious and nice. He's currently in quarantine and cannot leave his room.

My friend was in Kalama Heights for a month, and I think the experience was pretty positive. She was quoted one number but had to pay a higher number when she checked out. But my friend was okay with it because finding a place in the middle of a high occupancy time is a welcome fine. They took her to shopping, she had the option of going to some places of interest, and there was some entertainment provided, too. Overall, it was a pretty good experience. She said the breakfast was good but the other meals were kind of blah, but when you're cooking for a big crowd it's hard to find the right temperature at the right time.

Kalama Heights's staff seemed very nice. They had people coming in for entertainment and a jeepney that drove people around for things happening off campus. The rooms were OK and seemed to be up to date. It was very satisfactory and I don't have complaints.

Kalama Heights is lovely and very nice. The staff is very nice and great. The dining area is OK. It's not big, but it was in a beautiful location and had a beautiful pool. The rooms are fine and they feature a kitchenette.

Kalama Heights is where I would want to go when I retire. Everyone at Kalama was friendly. There weren't any angry faces, people rushing around, and no pressure from the sales people. It was so nice. I really wished my folks picked that one. The rooms were very nice and clean, and you could get your room furnished. It’s a beautiful location for exercise, lots of walking, and getting out. However, the price was a little unreachable for my folks.

The people at Kalama Heights were all friendly, bright, and happy to help with anything. The eating area was very bright and well done. The rooms vary depending on footage, with full kitchens or kitchenettes. It was very comfortable depending on what you want, like studios or ones with full baths could accommodate wheelchairs. There were a lot of amenities. Meals are included in your rent and look very good. There's a laundry room, and they also change sheets once a week. It‘s quite pleasant and looked like you’d have amenities to help you if you need anything.

I have spent some time there in Kalama Heights. My daughter lives in that area so I spent some time there, and I really liked it. It is a retirement home and assisted living facility both in the same facility. I spent ten days there, and I really loved it. It is very nice. They have a swimming pool and a Jacuzzi. They were just two blocks from the ocean which is very nice. The food was good, and the room was very nice. The room has a balcony, and it is a one bedroom. It is really a lovely place. The staff is just perfect. It couldn't have been better. It was wonderful. They just have everything you could possibly want to do there. It was just very nice. They have a bus service that takes people to the bank, the post office, the drugstore, and the mall. They have a room if you shoot pool. They have bingo and a little chapel with church service. They have all kind of activities there, and it was just lovely. I am looking forward to the time when I can go into this type of facility.
