I've chosen Magnolia Senior Living - Sharpsburg for my parents. I'm not 100% thrilled, so far. We've had a lot of bumps with this facility. They're so short-staffed, and some changes need to be made. If it is improving, it has greatly improved. They're willing to adjust for individual needs, which is wonderful. I've been very pleased with some of the staff, but not with all of them. It is a beautiful facility and it's spacious. My parents are safe there and they have some caring staff members. I think their administration and their wellness director are concerned and they care for their residents. They don't seem to have a very good variety of food for memory care. I learned that memory care gets fed completely differently from assisted living. And my dad complains about the food. They have some fun activities from the activities director. They have some exercise programs, little birthday gatherings, and they'll have someone come and sing. But I wish they had more exercise programs and the music that they play and the TV shows that they watch need to be more appropriate for the age of the residents, not for the people working there. These are a bunch of 85-year-olds that don't need to listen to hip-hop music. They need to be listening to songs from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. It's just not well thought out.

The staff is not trained in dementia care. Definitely spend the night there to get a real feel for the place. My dad did not have a pleasant experience there.

Loma Clara Senior Living is a very beautiful, very bright facility. It was newer. I was quite impressed. However, not as impressed with the staff, not the staff per se, but as I walked through a resident was sitting by herself in a living area where the TV was. And she said yeah, she's always here. She's the only one that is always here. And I thought that was kind of odd that they would just let this resident be there by herself all the time. I don't know why. It just kind of rubs me weird. You know, I figured somebody would be with her. They would try to incorporate her with the other staff. But overall, I would highly rate the facility. They are priced higher than the other place. I do think the quality of care was also pretty high. The staff, the activities they have, all the gardening, and all of that that the residents participate in, it was a wonderful facility. It would be another great option for someone, it's just the pricing, it's higher than the other places.

My mother will be moving into Magnolia Senior Living - Sharpsburg. The tour was very thorough. All the people there were very professional. The facility is lovely. It checked off all of our needs and it was competitively priced. It covered everything that we needed. She also has a friend that lives there, so that helped. She's in a one-room, but it has a partial divider. It could accommodate two people, but she's not going to have anyone else in the room. It's spacious, and she'll have a seating area and then a separate sleeping area with a partial room, a large bathroom, and a little kitchenette with a microwave, a coffee pot, and a little refrigerator. There's built-in storage. Everything's on one level, so she's not far from any of the activities or anything like that. They have excursions if they want to go shopping or they want to go to some kind of a special event or something like that, and they can schedule rides for doctor visits if they need to. They celebrate special occasions. They have a family dining area if family members want to celebrate something special or just come and have lunch or dinner there with her. If she wants to be up and be at the library or whatever, she can. They have scheduled events almost every day, and they have church services. The staff is very helpful and very professional. They just opened in April, so it's a brand new facility. Everything is spotless and fresh, and everybody is super friendly.
